- DVB and analogic verifiying

I think that the tv is used :-(

Today the hidden menu shows 6 hours (panel on time), and tv was plugged yesterday, so it matches.

But... if "panel on time" can be reset to zero...mmm i think i´ve been fooled.

Yes - it's second-hand, used and defiled. If you thought it was a new set then you've been roasted!

Hi

The difference between LE40A656 and LE40A656A1FXXU is A1FXXU.

A = Amber
1 = 1st case design of Amber
F = Tuner Type DVB-T MPEG2 (Freeview)
X = Complete assembled product
XU= UK (country code)

They are identical.

Unfortunately, no. Sky HD does not appear to support HDMI-CEC protocols.

These threads are so large it's impossible to find specific information

I understand that some 37" Samsungs use an inferior non-Samsung panel. Is this true for the 6 series too? The specs seem to suggest it is, with a differing contrast ratio for the 32/37 compared to the 40/46/52.

Edit: NM. The information was present in the original threads first post, doh.

Can't understand that; I have a Virgin V+ box attached to HDMI 1 (which also doesn't conform to HDMI-CEC protocols) and when I switch the set off and back on, it still finds the box (in fact any external source; simply finding the last attached device).

Me too, but I do have Sky HD. When the man from Sky installed our HD box, as well as connecting to the TV with HDMI, he also connected a scart cable and I always wondered why? Perhaps this is the reason?

Re: Samsung LE-A656 FULL HD 100Hz(50.000:1 CONTRAST,USB,6ms RESPONSE TIME) *Part 2*

Hi guys,

I just bought the LE40A656A and this is my first HDTV so pardon the stupid questions if they seem to be.

I would like to connect my PC to the TV using the HDMI connection on my graphic card, this will most likely not be a problem, my question concerns the sounds.
I would guess there would be no sounds through the HDMI connection since it comes from my graphic card, the question is what would be the best way to bring the sounds to the TV?

My PC is an AOPEN XC Cube EZ965, it has the following audio output:
HD Audio ALC888 7.1CH
Line-In (Surround-Out L/R)* x 1
Line-Out (Front-Out L/R)* x 1
Mic-In (Central/Subwoofer out)* x 1
Front Mic-In x 1
Front Earphone-Out x 1
Optical-In x 1
Optical-Out x 1
Coaxial-Out x 1

Front picture:

http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/5861/frontrz5.jpg
Back picture:
http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/5066/backir2.jpg

When I look at the back of the TV for the Inputs, using HDMI for the video and DVI IN (HDMI 2) for the audio with a Mini jack to RCA looks like the easiest solution but maybe not the best?
Can I use the Optical-Out (SPDIF in front of my Cube) to connect to the TV?

Any advice would be welcome, Thank you.

Re: Samsung LE-A656 FULL HD 100Hz(50.000:1 CONTRAST,USB,6ms RESPONSE TIME) *Part 2*

Hi again everyone.

I've had my a656 for a while now, and I still have some basic problems with it when connecting over HDMI. I believe my problems have to do with the TV resolution, but I don't know how to solve it.
Initially I had trouble getting a pic when connecting to my laptop. I only got the startup screen, then the picture would disappear. After some advice I recieved here I managed to get a stable picture but only on certain set resolutions.
Today I bought a blue ray player, a samsung bd-p1500, and when trying to connect it over HDMI i get the initial Samsung screen, but after a few seconds i lose the signal. I'm guessing this has to do again with the resolution output on the BD-player, but I can't see how I can change that. It seems to be set on 1080p and yet the TV cannot find the signal.

My questions are:

1: Do I have to change the resolution on the TV somehow, or on the BD-player to get signal? Or do I have to do something else? Or is my TV-set faulty?

2: I still haven't managed to get a signal from the laptop when it's set to max resolution at 1680x1050 (for example in games). Does the TV only show certain fixed resolutions, or am I missing something?

I'd be glad for any reply, it's frustrating not to get full use of the TV...
Thanks in advance,
Husbus

Hi

Yes - you might have cracked it!

The SCART is used for signal tranfer so the two machines can 'talk' to each other. HDMI for video & audio data streams.

Ahh, managed to change the resolution output on the BD-player by first connecting via AV. That was easy enough... That eases my mind a bit, means there's nothing wrong with the TV I guess.
The PC issue will get sorted I guess, just have to keep fiddling with it...

Is your pc a laptop? Try starting windows with your laptop's lid closed. That will disable the laptop's screen. Disable hybernating and all that rubbish before you do that.

So you've got a working 1080p signal going into the TV via HDMI1? ...From the BD player...

I've never bothered doing this myself, so I cannot tell you the facts. However, have you tried going into the sound menu on the TV after installing the cables? I think you can select different inputs... When you plugged the headphone jacks into the PC sound input on the TV, were you switched to HDMI2, and do you have HDMI2 re-named to "PC" ? Worth a try...

Re: Samsung LE-A656 FULL HD 100Hz(50.000:1 CONTRAST,USB,6ms RESPONSE TIME) *Part 2*

Hello,

I have just noticed something on my Samsung A656 that i would like to find out why it's happening...

When i connect my XBox 360 (or PS3) to any of the HDMI ports i have an option on the menu to select the HDMI Black level (Normal or Low).

When i connect my DVD also by HMDI (it doesn't mather which HDMI port) this option is grayed out and i can't change it.

Any one knows why is that?

Thanks

It's because of the AV format. The 360 and the PS3 will be using RGB which allows you set the the HDMI Black Level to either Normal or Low. Your Blu-ray player will be using Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr, so the option will be unavailable. If you play a blu-ray through your PS3, and you have the PS3's AV output format set to Automatic, you will notice when the Blu-ray begins, the HDMI Black Level option will become unavailable.

When I had my TV ISF calibrated, we used DVDs to output test data, and the HDMI Black Level was unavailable at the time obviously. When I'm not watching a film via the PS3, I have HDMI Black Level set to Low, which gives the correct settings for RGB. Make sure you have the following set on your PS3 and 360:

PS3 - RBG full range -> Limited
PS3 - Superwhite -> On
360 - Reference Level (if available) -> Normal

The panels in the 37" model aren't made by the Samsung/ Sony partnership but, that doesn't mean they are bad. The spec 'isn't as good' but, some of the figures are quite suspect anyway.

If you plan to buy the 37", don't let the figures put you off. There are several very happy 37" owners on here who I'm sure are willing to share their experiences.

PS3 - RBG full range -> Limited
PS3 - Superwhite -> On
360 - Reference Level (if available) -> Normal
Just to expand on this.

The TV will detect which video level is being feed to it from a specific source. If it matched the PC video level range (full RGB/0-255 colourspace), certain settings will become available for adjustment. HDMI Black Level being one of them. If it detects a video level range (YCbCr/ 16-235 colourspace) these settings will become disabled.

Essentially, PC's and games consoles will output full RGB video levels and any video source (DVD, Blu-Ray, HD-DVD etc...) will output YCbCr video levels. You're not losing anything either way, it's just the way the powers that be decided to do it.

Paul. If you can remember Gordon's comments a while back, he mentioned what he though he saw with my PS3 and Samsung TV. He mentioned about the RGB full range doing more than just that, it appeared to do some other processing... Bit over my head...

Re: Samsung LE-A656 FULL HD 100Hz(50.000:1 CONTRAST,USB,6ms RESPONSE TIME) *Part 2*

I found his post. Lucky...

From Gordon:

"Just to try to explain the PS3 black level thing....

PS3 set to output YPrPb component. It uses STUDIO video levels.
PS3 set to output RGB normal. It uses STUDIO video levels, but instead of passing whiter than white and blacker than black it appears to just truncate them.
PS3 set to output RGB FULL/ENHANCED or whatever they call it. It outputs PC video levels and this truncates blacker than black and whiter than white data and remaps it to the full 0-255 bits.

If you don't understand what the above means then I'm sorry as I don't have time to go in to it all...but if you do then that is what I saw happening....

Gordon"

Re: Samsung LE-A656 FULL HD 100Hz(50.000:1 CONTRAST,USB,6ms RESPONSE TIME) *Part 2*

Hi can anyone please help me! Do you know what the optimal settings are for the Samsung LCD TV 46" Model LE46A558 please? It seems a decent picture but not that good on some channels in particular sports when the football is on. Im getting Sky HD this weekend so hopefully it'll all look great then!

Thanks

Iain

What this means to me (in blue).

With that in mind, setting the PS3 to YPbPr (component) or YCbCr for HDMI.

This is the LE**A656 settings thread, not the LE**A558 settings thread matey.

Have a look in the A558 specific thread for all you setting needs.

SORRY if this is in this or previous thread posts but can someone confirm (or otherwise) that version 20.1 of fw turns the auto dimming in the service menu off?

Also, I've read that entering the service menu invalidates the warranty. Is this true and if you don't change anything, how would they know that you had?
