Hi Slamdunk,
I've just bought the Matrix Box set on Blu-ray, only watched the first so far but its a noticable improvement over my DVD set. Certainly worth re-buying if you're into the film in my opinion.
Cheers

Those are pretty much my settings, but I've gone for a backlight of 3 with slightly lower contrast and colour settings. I'm also using a fairly decent SCART cable into AV2. I've also backed the output contrast from the Sky+ box down a notch or two.

Currently I am experimenting with motionflow on high and picture mode of cinema for Spiderman 3 on Sky+ Anytime and it's looking pretty good to me.

Yes I originally had the backlight set to around 2 but I found it bright especially with lights off so by reducing the backlight and compensating with a slightly higher colour and contrast works great for me.

Yes cinema mode is a must have for movies for me, let us know how you get on with motionflow to high and is this just on SD?

Re: Sony W4500 Series 100Hz,50.000:1 Dynamic contrast,DLNA *Part 2*

Right everyone, first off Merry Christmas

I've had my 40W4500 for just under a week now and all in all i'm very pleased with it. It's not 100% pefect but very nearly there.

No clouding or rainbow effects that i can see, but there is some slight backlight bleed in the corners, more noticeably top right when on a dark screen. I've also noticed a when playing a few games that some parts are really dark and avoid of any detail. Mostly shadows, etc on Dirt on Xbox 360 so far.

The Xbox 360 through 1080p on HDMI is stunning though, so gonna pick up a good Blu-ray player or PS3 in the sales and watch a few films.

Oh and is it just mine or does the surround and stand seem like a total dust magnet?? Mine is covered already

I also discover small amount of clouding effect in corners but it is not huge and still thinking should I return and get new one .....always could get new one and end up worse and that's what's bothers me. Maybe try to post some picture later..

same - bought w4500 a week ago blacklight bleed around the corners (top left and right). Thinking of returning - to those that have have you recieved a better second set? Would playing with the settings also reduce the bleed? Thanks, James

Try switching on game mode this should disable the contrast enhancer and other features and most Sony products are dust magnets, get a microfibre cloth

Reduce backlight as it comes on a very high setting

If it's only a small amount and if it's not aggressively visible in the black bars when viewing a film or in the actual film itself ,forget about it.Most buyers wouldn't even be aware of it(except for the small minority with really dodgy panels).Low backlight setting reduces it enormously.

I also think the TV is amazing! I think its far more impressive than my friends pioneer plasma (although that's a year old now). The picture is brilliant, especially in HD (SD is just so so, not expecting anything great there).
These are the best LCD TVs I have seen so far, although I don't claim to have seen them all. It really depends on what you mean by 'impressive'. Recently, I wanted to upgrade to a bigger TV than my previous 40" Sony W4000 LCD (which was great, btw). I 'auditioned' a 52" Sony W4500 as well as a 50" Pioneer 5090 plasma. To my eyes, the Pio looked better in every respect, from black levels to viewing angles, from screen uniformity to colour fidelity; so I bought my first ever non-Sony TV. To each, his own.

Whatever folks buy, I hope they will just relax and enjoy it, rather than sitting in the dark, nose 6 inches from the screen, trying to find faults.

Merry Christmas.

Had my 40w4500 since around 10th Nov. Very slight bleed in top left and a little more so top right. Its non existent when cold and creeps in after an hour or so, still im extremely fussy and even I have decided to accept this small defect. It has definatley lessen'd as the weeks have gone by

Re: Sony W4500 Series 100Hz,50.000:1 Dynamic contrast,DLNA *Part 2*

I get these "popping" noises from inside the TV when I turn it off, which I guess is the sound of the TV set's internal parts cooling down and contracting or something. The trouble is that I get the same noises during a movie when a bright scene is followed by a darker scene. It's a bit annoying and distracting.

Any of you experienced similar things? Is there a way to get around this?

Re: Sony W4500 Series 100Hz,50.000:1 Dynamic contrast,DLNA *Part 2*

Reading some of the pointless tittle in here makes me feel bad just for reporting my 40W4500 didn’t arrive in full working order, something I expect when I pay nearly a grand for a TV.

Amazing really, that people would rather search for some obscure reason to accept faulty electrical equipment or look for some personal attack rather than just accept that not all these sets function properly on arrival.

I’m a Sony fan boy and I just want my new TV to work but it doesn’t.

Also what the hell is “normal viewing conditions” nonsense? People use their sets for different things in the best suited conditions for each, home cinema being in the dark….

I price matched richer sounds at £931 with John Lewis inc JLs great 5yr cover.

My advice is go with them as the customer service is top class.

Edit: Mind its as cheap as £849 online but post sales will (imo) not be up to JLs and thats without the 5yrs

Question SKY HD and Bravia Sync

Hello

I have just got this tv and connected the SKY+ HD box directly to the Tv using a hdmi cable.

I have 2 questions:

1. How can I get Bravia sync to "recognise" the sky+ hd box
2. What is the sky remote code for this tv - it is not listed and "0000" does not work.

Thanks

Re: Sony W4500 Series 100Hz,50.000:1 Dynamic contrast,DLNA *Part 2*

i need some advice, i really want this tv, but everyones faulty problems really have put me off and concerned me. i really don't want the hassle. although it certainly makes sense that people with problems will register and write about it, and happy owners won't bother.

so i have a few questions:

is the 46inch more prone than the 40 for these issues? (where is that list of model numbers and build dates gone, is it up to date?)

is there certain places still willing to exchange the tv if un happy/bump into these issues? richer sounds? i live in london, im considering playing "russian roulette" with this tv, if i can get it from somewhere that will do this exchanging. has anyone been able to exchange it many times without many problems?

i don't know what to do because i can only afford about a 1000, so i can't really get it from JL, or probably not many stores in person.

help?

Hey mate, how do you do that? I live in Aberdeen but i'd like to price match the sony 40W4000 with Richer sounds glasgow (£679) and then use it up here in Aberdeen as you've done - can you give me any more info on how to do this? Thanks!!

Thumbs up Sky+ HD Remote code

I have got the sky+ remote code working now, as you stated it is "0000".

For those that have trouble with this see post #2893 on Part 1 of this mammoth thread.

Thanks to Valewood for the steps in the above post

so i have a few questions:

is the 46inch more prone than the 40 for these issues? (where is that list of model numbers and build dates gone, is it up to date?)

is there certain places still willing to exchange the tv if un happy/bump into these issues? richer sounds? i live in london, im considering playing "russian roulette" with this tv, if i can get it from somewhere that will do this exchanging. has anyone been able to exchange it many times without many problems?

i don't know what to do because i can only afford about a 1000, so i can't really get it from JL, or probably not many stores in person.

help?
I got my panel from Pixmania Sony BRAVIA KDL-40W4500 LCD TELEVISION review cheap prices BRAVIA KDL-40W4500 LCD TELEVISION Sony best buy discount online uk shop
They allow you to return panel and money back in 7 days and return panel and replaced with different panel within 15 days. So you have some peace of mind but you're worrying is not necessary.
The vast majority of people have been delighted with this panel and it deservedly sells by the truckload. The vast majority of us would not have even heard or even noticed clouding/light bleed but for a small no who have have had problems and (rightly) complained loudly. I,like most people, have a tiny amount of bleed(which is not noticeable during viewing) but with your backlight reduced to normal levels this is not an issue. Most LCDs tend to have lighter dark than plasmas and have marginally less stability with SD performance..IMO most plasmas tend not to be as sharp or bright as LCDs.I possess both LCD and Plasma and much prefer LCD especially my 52W4500.(This is the first Sony tv I have ever bought)All panels have slight problems but the picture quality of the 4500 is so good, any slight imperfection is not worth bothering about.Put aside your anxieties and enjoy your purchase. This should be a very enjoyable experience for you.Buy this outstanding panel with confidence.

Does anyone know what im doing wrong, I have the xbox 360 connected via component and can get the picture fine but there's no sound? Also it flashes up on the screen 480p, surely I should be able to get a better resolution?
