Re: Sony W4500 Series 100Hz,50.000:1 Dynamic contrast,DLNA *Part 2*

when watching ternimator 2 and other fast action films on blue ray player which is a sony bdp s350.
when something is happening real fast like arms moving etc.
i see like loads of small blocks around the image of the arm etc its only on fast moving objects. and get the same thing sometimes with dvds.

is this normal and will i have to just get used to it or is there something i can do with the setting etc to make it go away or not seem as bad.or os there a problem with either the lcd or blue ray player.i have a ps3 so should i use that to compare or will it be more evident.

and does anyone know what this is called.

Yeah, I just use the normal Sony one. It is perfectly functional and doesn't have adverts on it.

Make sure you are outputting your Blu-rays at 24p (blue light should come on on front of the s350) and you could try Motionflow set to standard if it still bothers you.

garry, it sounds like you're seeing a side effect of Motionflow. Does watching the scenes that are effected with motionflow on and off make a difference? Also, is sharpness set to min?

Re: Sony W4500 Series 100Hz,50.000:1 Dynamic contrast,DLNA *Part 2*

After wading through the numerous 4500 threads on here Ive ordered a 40"er from Empire with a Sony DAVIS50 and a SONY HDD/Freeview box.
Having nightmares already over how it will all connect together but cant wait for it all to turn up, the 32" Sony CRT and Homecinema will retire to the spare bedroom for visitor use only!!
Cheers

I am in a bit of a dilema -

Not sure wether to go for the 52W4000 (big screen) or go for the 46W4500 for a little cheaper (100 motion flow) etc

Unfortunatley based in the Falklands I have to import from UK and cannot go to shops to compare (rely on internet reviews)
It is a dilemma. With my 52W4500 looking magnificent in my room for both picture quality and much greater involvement due to it's size compared to my previous 42" panel(40% more viewing area),I have no hesitation in urging you to go for the biggest panel you can afford ....all other things being equal.I saw both 40" models side by side and didn't notice any great difference but I didn't do any serious viewing for motion differences. You may have to read through both threads to get a sense from people who upgraded from the 4000 to the 4500.Best of luck with your choice

Re: Sony W4500 Series 100Hz,50.000:1 Dynamic contrast,DLNA *Part 2*

I have just had my 46" W4500 delivered and have to say it is a superb set. Have only watched for a while but the picture quality is every bit as good as I'd hoped with vibrant, realistic colours.

This TV is a big indulgence for me because I don't watch much (my previous superb Loewe 100hz Calida apparently had 5000 hours on it after 12 years - a code on the remote will tell you this).

However, the controller said we had to "update" so after spending not too much time on the decision we opted for a w4500. I have had Sony products for many years and have always found them reliable so figured we should go for the best. And anyway they looked best in the shops.

I haven't fiddled with the control settings because the factory settings seem Ok for now. The only thing that is a bit disappointing is the sound which I find thin and nasally compared with my Loewe which was full and rich (it's currently on "dynamic" and I've turned the treble down to avoid the nasalness but to no effect) . Any advice would be appreciated.

The other small disappointment (but this is only personal taste, not the TV's fault) is the non-reflective screen. It's the difference between a gloss and matt photo. The matt photo always loses some sparkle and "life" compared with the gloss. But then there's the reflection issue. Swings and roundabouts I guess.

I hope I don't encounter the cloud and other issues mentioned by others but if I do I will let you know.

In the meantime I hope I'll get enough watching in to justify the purchase of this superb machine.

Enjoy your panelIf severe clouding /backlight bleed are not noticeable, then you don't have any.
As regards sound,........with a fab. panel and of such a home cinema size, surely it's time for a surround sound to add a complete new and very worthwhile dimension?,so that when you watch it ,the audio/visual experience will be memorable

You can always try setting up macros on a programmable remote, I use a pronto RU990 and it integrates the whole home cinema experience across all my devices

Had my 46w4500 delivered this morning. Very impressed. The black levels are very impressive for an LCD as is the feature set.

I haven't encountered any issues with it so far (clouding, bleed).

It's such a fantastic picture I'm considering upgrading my 360 to HDMI as I can clearly see picture degredation via my current component setup.

The PS3 sings on this telly via HDMI.

OK, this might seem a stupid Q to some, but should i be getting 1080p in the corner of my TV when watching normal Sky TV? because i only get 1080i. Or is this only relevant when watching a Blu-Ray/HD TV.

Thanks in advance.

Well first I was looking at the 52W4000 for £1360 but I saw a 52W4500 for just under £1500 online and pulled the trigger!!

Jut looking at the sexy pictures of it is making me want it delivered so I can see it in person!

Anyhow just wondering, I will be hooking it up to a Sony PS3 (US), S350 Blu Ray Player (UK), Sony Hard Disk/DVD Recorder via a Sony 7.1 amplifer reciever. All are bravia sync - does this mean the 52W4500 will let me control everything with its remote and I can ditch the rest??

PS3 doesn't support Bravia Sync. The others you should be able to control with the remote, to a certain extent, but it can be a bit fiddly at times, and you may find yourself just wanting to use the original remotes for the other items.

I was offered a very similar deal in my local Sony centre.

I snapped their hand off.

Although I paid a bit extra and went for the 550 blu ray player as I need the player do do the decoding.

Great deal.

as all i am getting at the moment is x 768, originally i though this was a gfx issue but it seems the card (radeon 9200SE) will do that rez too..

please help

anyone know???
You won't get full resolution via VGA regardless of GPU . Either stick with 1360x 768 or connect via DVI-HDMI. You'll get a better picture and greater control of both TV and PC output at native resolution with HDMI.

Strange - mine switches automatically to my DVD player on the AV2 input.
I thought I read somewhere on installation that AV2 had the 'auto-switch' functionality so purposely connected my DVD player to that input and left AV1 unused.

Unfortunately, even though I preyed to the AV gods for it not to, the set has bad clouding on both top corners....let it run as much as possible for a few days to see if it got better but if anything its got worse .

You can't see it at all during the day but in the dark, watching a Blu-ray of 30 days of night (lame movie) its so so distracting and completely erodes the line between the bars and the image.

Phoned john Lewis and they are sending a tec out complete with new set to rep;ace on the spot if its deemed faulty. Now I know they have very good customer service but to send out a new set with the tecs who are coming to assess IF the TV has a fault says alot in my opinion....

Really not sure what to do, Its a great set and i realy would be happy with it if it coud just sort the clouding.

Tempted to upgrade to a plasma but really i just want it to bloody work!
Yeah I've got some clouding on my KDL40W4710/4500 from JL. It's mainly in the top and bottom left corners and is a rough stripe shape extending towards the centre of the screen. There's a couple of other patches elsewhere too. The set was assembled 11/08 in Spain.

Damn this thread - I probably would not have noticed it had I not read this, but now I know it's there and can't help noticing it and it annoys me (only joking - these forums are an invaluable source of info ....). JL are sending a tech out but didn't mention anything about them bringing a replacement unit. The only thing that worries me is that it's only really noticeable in dark conditions (which I have told JL), so if the tech comes at lunchtime he might think there's nothing wrong with it and refuse to replace it. I'll just have to cover the windows with blankets or something .....

Re: Sony W4500 Series 100Hz,50.000:1 Dynamic contrast,DLNA *Part 2*

Hi
Could somebody with a 40W4500 please tell me the visible screen size?
I currently have a 42 inch panasonic plasma (which actual visible screen dimension is about 41.5inch)

Reason I ask is that I am considering getting the 40W4500 (or perhaps 40Z4500 - but not yet convinced the Z is worth the extra money) and I would like to know how much smaller the picture will be compared to what I have now.

Many thanks!
