Canadian Sony KLV40S200A only black and white

I recently bought a 40" bravia off ebay cheap as it wouldnt get UK frequency tv. as i have a sony freeview box/hd recorder i thought this would not be a problem. When i picked the tv up he showed me it working with a ps2 through a 3 rca lead.

i bought it and went home to try and set it all up and could only get black and white through the video cable (L+R sound were fine) i tried all the rca inputs on the tv with different cables and different sources but none show colour.

The hdmi is scrambled and i have played with the settings but cant get it to work. prehaps the most puzzling thing is that the component in from my ps3 works fine in full 1080i and colour!? so i tried the component out from the sony hd box and that wouldnt work???

the whole thing seems very strange and i have changed all the settings but cant get it working.

could anyone shead some light on why? thanks in advance

Welcome to the Forum.

I assume this is an NTSC TV rather than a PAL? I would say that is your problem. Some TV's are multi-system but rarely one from the US/Canada. If it was multi system you would have controls to change systems, mostly they are automatic.

it may be that it doesnt like PAL SD at 50HZ get a freeview box with HDMI and set to 60Hz output although should accept 1080i at 50Hz (may need to go through initial set up again and try if you can set if for Multistandard

Re: Canadian Sony KLV40S200A only black and white

Cheers for the help so far guys

The freeview box is an RXR-HXD870 and to be honest it cost more than the tv so i will probably hang on to it! the sound is throught a coax cable to my STR-DE597p amp and i have a PS2, PS3, video player (for the sake of it!) and a cd player all liked through which were all working fine on my old sony trinitron CRT.

Im not a complete novice when it comes to things like this but cant for the life of me make it work!

it may go back and i will just get may money back and buy a uk spec one unless i can fine another way round it.

How easy are the screens to change if i bought one with a cracked screen or are the inputs/ampage built in and not able to change?
