Hitachi 'Ultra Thin': Scart to VGA?

My girlfriends parents won this monitor in a competition

Hitachi Digital Media Group - Ultra Thin - 32" (81cm V) - UT32MH70

The competition was advertised as a TV but obviously it isn't (despite being a brilliant looking screen)

Bundled with it was a set top box (freeview)which takes care of the monitors only HDMI input. The only other input is a VGA slot.

What they would like to do is connect their standard sky box to it too.

Without spending a fair bit on a Scart>HDMI then an HDMI Swithcer is there a way of going from the Sky Scart to the VGA on the Monitor.

I tried buying a Scart to VGA cable from Ebay but it never worked

2m SCART LEAD TO 15 PIN HD VGA CABLE to LCD TV DVD MALE on eBay, also, Monitor Cables, DVI, SVGA, BNC, Cables Connectors, Computing (end time 16-Sep-08 21:35:11 BST)

Cheers

Does the freeview box have the ability to accept other inputs? You could then play Sky through the Freeview box. Or alternatively buy a cheap freeview box that can (assuming there is such a thing).

It does! It has the option for a Scart input and output but I think that its only for output to another scart source and isn't capable of converting from Scart to HDMI (if you know what I mean)

It really is a cracking piece of kit but its usage is very limited

Yes this does look a cracking set and should have come with a free hitachi Media Station which is on promotion until the end of the year. This has 3 HDMI inputs, an upscaling scart and other assorted connection. Have just ordered the 42" model from Empire Direct today as the price has just come down and they are doing an additional 10% off via a code.

The media station also has twin freeview tuners and a 250GB hard drive - see this link for further details:

Hitachi Digital Media Group - Ultra Thin - 42" (106cm V)

Cheers Andy
