Re: Sony KDL-26/32/37 V4000 HD READY

How does the 32" look in blu-ray? From what I understand, it doesn't have 24p. Also, is a viewing distance of 5-6 feet fine for 32"?

I didn't like the look of the Amazon warranty, looks like you only get one claim?

Hopefully JL will get some more stock in a week or so, I'm trying to be patient...

Somewhere there are stairs with 3 orange(/red) vases on the right side:

And now move the camera!!!

1)If you see a trail, that is the smearing issue with red color @ greyish background.

2)There is also a smearing issue with any other color (mostly black) @ greyish background. (clearly visible in the test video I posted in the other topic)
(looks like motion blur, but is ghosting in reality)

Two different kinds I noticed so far.

THE SECOND KIND of smearing issue (black + any other color @ grey background) I described above is 99% GONE on my
replacement 32v4500 I received on Tuesday!

(it disappears after a warm up time of the LCD, like 30 minutes)
(note: On my older set it even did not go away after 6 hours! Now just after 30 minutes)

The first kind of smearing (red color) is however still present

.
To be honest with you, I am not going to go looking for a problem, I have made many mistakes going to look for problems "other" people have, it is known as "Inspection before the fact".

I appreciate your issue though and my PX isn't perfect but I bought that and I bought this as a compromise because as far as I am concerned there is no such thing as a perfect TV yet, they all have some quirk or another. If I can watch it and enjoy it then I have no issue, but If I watch it and something detracts from it (like dirty screen I had on my Pio 4280xd) then it gets returned.

This TV is now £329.99 which in my view for what it provides is absolute peanuts and a major bargain or priced as TVs should be priced more accurately.

There is a price scrap going on with this particular set as shown by, Amazon, JL's, Play.com,Comet's et al, large price drops which shows to me that it is a popular set.

I have played Gears of War 2, Fable 2, Incredible Hulk, Forza 2 and so far have seen no problems with any of them in game play and I like it that way.

All the best
Mat

Nope, it isn't 24p by design as far as I know, all I was saying was that it doesn't judder when watching Spiderman 3. Which to me means it handles it okay.

It is by Sony's description Blu Ray and PS3 ready whatever that means.

This was the first thing I tried out on it when I got it as I was intrigued, I don't use it for Blu Ray, but I wanted to try it out so I did, and it gave a pretty nice clear picture too.

I will check some more out tonight and come back to you on it.

32v4000 and sound system

I really like the look of this deal, but I have absolutely no knowledge of surround sound systems whatsoever. Hypothetically speaking, how would I go about setting up an Xbox 360 and PS3 with the above HDTV and sound system?

I was going to buy it, but then was told I'd have to pay £4.99 a month for 1 years warranty. I'm not sure whether to just wait for it to come back in stock, and get 5 years free-warranty, at John Lewis or if the home cinema's worth it.

I would save up and get a decent sound system, you won't ever hear the best out of them without one (seperates). I have a relatively decent system - mid end - and it adds 50% to the esperience to be frank.

Note: Especially with the PS3 for Blu Ray

Re: Sony KDL-26/32/37 V4000 HD READY

i bought the kdl32v4000 and the dav-dz260 today from currys for in my spare room to watch dvds & play on my wii

couldnt believe it when i realised there was no optical out on the back of the tv but an optical in on the surround!. how bizarre selling a tv and surround together and not being able to connect them with an optical cable

do you think using the red and white(av) audio out sockets on the tv and into the scart on the rear of the surround sound box will work??? (if i was using my wii or connecting my laptop)

will that detect the audio automatically? for example if i decided to plug my wii into the component sockets aswell (on the tv of course), i would get sound out of the surround sound system? would i need to select a certain mode or something?

any help from anyone would be appreciated
thanks in advance

How much would I be looking to spend on a decent sound system?

Gord, that is a hard question - I have spent in total around £1600 ish on amp, sub and speakers and I consider that as mid end at best

But to be frank if the Sony were my main TV then I would spend way less and perhaps get a Sony 720/820 or Onkyo 506 amp and perhaps some Cantons (Powerbuy on speaker forum) so around £400-500, that would be a budget example.

Hope that helps.

I watched Speed on Blu Ray last night, I can't tell if it judders or not, I may not be that sensitive to it, has a nice picture though.

Does the "Smart" mode aspect ratio setting hold the proportions well on 4:3 broadcasts? Of course there is some stretching but some TVs do a better job than others. I can't get to a store to try out.

Thanks

I've used the red and white audio outputs from the 32V400 in to my DAV F200. It works automatically, mutes the TV speakers.

However, I did think it should work via the HDMI connection without needing the additional audio lead.....maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Re: Sony KDL-26/32/37 V4000 HD READY

Got mine on saturday for £350 from richer sounds with 5yr warranty. Very pleased with motion in games and divx files played through the PS3 look surprisingly good. Freeview quality seems to depend on the channel I found ITV4 to be the worst.

I've haven't used the settings I've found here as I think they're too dark a bit like theatre mode on the tv. For gaming I like the default settings.

The only issue was today I found a dead pixel

Re: Sony KDL-26/32/37 V4000 HD READY

Yup, £350ish (including 5 year warranty)from Richer Sounds on Saturday. It pays to check the internet just before going in to the store. I had reserved a set at £396 the day before but the price dropped on the web Sat morning. They still honour the internet price in the shop though.

I'm very pleased generally with the TV but still need to tinker with the settings. Tried some of the ones in this thread but they are not to my taste.

Also, it appears that one must play with the settings for each input.

Is there a calibration disc available to help with setting up contrast and sharpness? There used to be one for CRT tellys but not sure for LCD.

Re: Sony KDL-26/32/37 V4000 HD READY

I got one of these last weekend for £330 from Comet and was initially very impressed, however I have had 2 small issues...

1. When the backlight is turned down below max there is a humm/buzz from the back of the set - I contacted Sony and they told me to expect a slight buzz. Don't really hear it when volume is at normal tv viewing volume but now I know its there I can't help but hear it when the volume drops

2. Has anyone had a problem with certain dark/dull colours (red or grey mainly) looking noticeably darker at the coners than the rest of the screen?

No dead pixels so I am hesitant to get it replaced, any ideas re. number 2 above?
