Re: Samsung LCD series A950 LED

50 pages of thread is a lot to read, so I'm going to be a git and bring up the issue of lag again. What are people's experience with input lag on this set?

I spent an hour at John Lewis looking at the 786 and couldn't see any lag at all (and I did get one of the reps to make sure the Smart LED feature was turned on!). I was intending to go for the 46" 786 but since it appears that it's out of stock approximately everywhere I'm considering the 956 instead. But since I'm going to be using the set primarily for PS3, lag will make me angry and sad and angry.

Has anyone tried running the 956 and, say, a monitor off the same graphics card to see if there's a difference? I haven't been able to find a 956 on display anywhere in Cambridge at all to have a look myself, unfortunately

if its any help there is a 55'' 956 on display in bennetts, hall road in norwich. I do a fair bit of online gaming and have had no problem with lag, cant really tell any diff with game mode on or off though having it on is supposed to reduce it a fair bit.

Re: Samsung LCD series A950 LED

Yesterday i bought this TV ( LE46A956 made in Slovakia for Dutch markt ) and the picture quality is excellent. I use also pureffm setting http://www.avforums.com/forums/lcd-t...ml#post7813314

However there is on thing that annoying me and it is motion blur and judde.
I have tried different things but without any success.
Is there anything to do here? Sometime is very frustrating.

Thanks

btw

I use also last firmware or i think that is last one with date 2008/12/30/_001011

Hi Deni,
have you try to disable motion plus or at least setting it to LOW?

I have tried but it does not help. Actually if picture is static without many movement then is perfect but if picture is in moving with many light colors then it comes really annoying and irritatant.
Color from the picture in moving diffuse around moving object and it can be really annoying.
I tried to watch handball to test it and it was very annoying with all white color (they had white and red T-shirt) that diffuse around moving object. Shining effect where color from the picture in moving diffuse around moving object.

I do not have a lot experience but i thought that this problem with motion blur and judder.
I have call tech. service here in Netherlands and they will take contact with me in next 3 days and probably send someone to see what's going on here.
Of i'm paranoid or there is something really wrong!

Re: Samsung LCD series A950 LED

I have succeed to make picture a lot better by lowing backlight from 10 to 5-6.
What confused me all time was recommend pureffm setting http://www.avforums.com/forums/lcd-t...ml#post7813314
that was confirmed by many people where Backlighting was set to 10
It is not good at all.

Re: Samsung LCD series A950 LED

Chaps,

I am currently living in Italy and have ordered a 9 series samsung. That was nearly two months ago and the supplier still does not have any in stock. I am getting very impatient !

I am starting to think about alternatives. Any suggestions?

In particular I was wondering what I would loose by going for the 7 series instead, I believe this has the local dimming. I am not bothered about all the networking stuff, I just want the best LCD picture possible.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Cheers

Chris

Re: Samsung LCD series A950 LED

just had an email from crampton and moore telling me that they will not be able to get any more stock of the 956 as it's now been officially discountinued by samsung so if you see it in stock anywhere at a decent price then go for it

Re: Samsung LCD series A950 LED

I've been looking out for a 956 for the past while as well. They're being discontinued to make way for the new Samsung B series (Luxia?), the B6000, B7000, and B8000. I was talking to a retailer in NI who spoke directly to Samsung - he was told that the new sets are due mid-April. I think there's a B9000 (top end of range) due before the end of the year too.

Discontinue the current flagship model, but not have anything to replace it till later in the year..what are Samsung thinking?

Yeah, it seems a bit daft. Especially considering that there seems to be a lot of people still interested in their current models.

Re: Samsung LCD series A950 LED

Chaps,

Finally received my 950 after waiting nearly 2 months here in Italy. After one night I am very impressed and am trying not to look too closely for faults. Watched Kung Fu panda on blu ray and it looked great. Then had to watch jades wedding on SD which was not quite as good! Actually pretty pleased with standard def sky so far.

Anyway, I have one small question. I wanted to use a mini hi-fi system as the speakers which can accept audio via a mini headphone jack. Obviously the set does not have the headphone output. Is the only sound output optical? Could I connect standard RCS left right cables to the tv somewhere and then convert to headphone jack. I have a feeling the left right audio on the back of the set is an input rather than an output.

Any ideas would be welcome, preferably ones that do not include the purchase of a receiver as I need to save up for a bit!

Thanks,

Chris.

Re: Samsung LCD series A950 LED

Guys, getting terrible greyscale banding problems using pureffm's calibrated european model settings.

I lost the piece of paper where I had written down the service menu defaults. Can anyone post the european defaults for the following settings. It would be greatly appreciated.

White Balance
Sub Brightness
R Offset
G Offset
B Offset
Sub Contrast
R Gain
G Gain
B Gain

WB Movie
Warm 2_R_Gain:
Warm 2_B_Gain:
Warm 2_R_Offset:
Warm2_B_Offset:

I am using the display in PC mode so maybe his settings don't work so well in this mode. Thanks.!!

I just got one on boxing week sale. I am returning it back since it was already defective (screen has big grey patch).
Guess he was right hey guys.....took a slating for this post a few pages back, back looking for a 7 and 9 series now and a lot of web pages (in the uk) cheapelectricals being one, have these models as discontinued!!!!

I can't believe these models only had a year in the shops...yes I know new models are introduced every year, but you can still get the dam thing.....it's as if Samsung have just decided not to produce any at all and what's out there is the last......makes me think that maybe there is something majorly wrong with these sets and they just don't care to mention it and have just stopped production in favor of their new sets????

Would this also suggest we'll never get a firmware fix for the 24p mode??? Can’t believe it works on all there models bar their flagship model the 9 series (not sure about the 7).

I believe the new edge lit led tvs are cheaper to make. This could be the reason why they stopped producing the 7 and 9 series. I have a 7 series and I didn't fancy getting the new edge lit led tvs since they can't dim the screen locally.

It is there, but you need to choose a valid country in the original setup, in the first place.
Mine did not work though, so i used another method.

I entered the service menu (tv on standby, press Info, Menu, Mute and then Power)
Select Options
Scroll with navigation arrows on the remote (use down arrow), until Infollink is displayed
Select ON
Exit the service menu (in my case i just powered off the set)
Turn on the tv
Now run the first time setup and select UK (other countries work but not all of them)
If you have set the Network (i use auto with ethernet through my router), by pressing the InfoL key on the remote you can access this service.

One small note, in weather, you will be able to select almost any city in UK,
but i have not found a way to change country

Hope that helps

Re: Samsung LCD series A950 LED

I don't fancy the sound of an edge lit led tv. Wanted to get this tv at some point this summer as well. Don't know what i'm going to do now. If only Sony's led tv at this size wasn't so ridiculously over-priced. I do like Samsung tv's but i cant understand why they would discontinue their best tv so far so early.

thanks a lot jetjet.

unfortunately before reading your reply i accessed the service menu and did indeed see the infolink setting was off. i tried to navigate to that option with the right arrow and suddenly a factroy reset occured. that was an unpleasent suprise. i am not sure what it reset, other than date and country setting etc. i am now nervous about entering the sevice menu again. i guess i have to navigate with up and down arrows only.

fortunately, after the reset the picture still looked the same.

when my heart beat returns to normal i will try again to get to the infolink option. interestingly the whole chapter regarding infolink is not in my manual. it is in the manual i downloaded of the samsung site. i am concerned that i have been givien a duff model version as it seems they are out of stock everywhere. it took nearly two months for the tv to turn up following the order, i was ready to cancel and go for something else.

cheers

Service menu, apparently seems to reset all picture and sound settings to factory defaults, upon exit.

The strange thing about navigating into this menu,
is that although initial table of options covers most of the screen, when you start navigating these appear one at a time(there goes my down arrow comment).

User guides are adopted to each country the set is actually sold, but luckily the option exists, although hidden.
I actualy read about infolink in a local magazine review,
where they managed to activate it just by selecting UK in the first time setup.

In my case, since i travel a lot, it would be useful to be able to change the country in order to check weather forecast this way. Anyway news ticker is interesting,
though even my wii has richer mulimedia approach to that.

I also noticed that Samsung is abandoning Infolink and new sets will have some kind of widsets/rss feeds again from yahoo.

If they want to enhance their customers experience, i expect they include such changes in future updates of their firmware, as i will not change my new 55A956 for this reason in the coming years.

Smile Re: Samsung LCD series A950 LED

Hi All,

I just got my LE46A956. Has anyone tried a Dreambox 800 HD with this model? Is watching a non HD Satellite content better with this box than with let's say Dreambox 7020?

I also check the firmware on my TV and it is version 2008/12/30_001011.
Is this the latest version? On the Italian Samsung site the latest version is dated 29/02/03 and the version is ver.T-RBYDEUC-1010.0. This looks to me to be an older version than the one I currently have. Can anyone confirm this?
If it is so, how come my firmware is not online for download? Is it possible to back up the firmware before performing an update?

Thanks
Jezz

Re: Samsung LCD series A950 LED

i've got a dreambox 800 connected to this tv.

if the 800 is connected via dvi-hdmi cable it is better than if it is connected with a common scart.
so it depends what kind of connection you have at the back of the 7020. (which i dont think it contains dvi)

i bought my tv about a month ago and the currrent version i have is
2008/11/12_001010 and i never updated it.

Re: Samsung LCD series A950 LED

Hi,

No, the Dreambox 7020 does not have a dvi-hdmi connector. I only have a Scart Connection. But thanks for your help.
