Mine did not work though, so i used another method.
I entered the service menu (tv on standby, press Info, Menu, Mute and then Power)
Select Options
Scroll with navigation arrows on the remote (use down arrow), until Infollink is displayed
Select ON
Exit the service menu (in my case i just powered off the set)
Turn on the tv
Now run the first time setup and select UK (other countries work but not all of them)
If you have set the Network (i use auto with ethernet through my router), by pressing the InfoL key on the remote you can access this service.
One small note, in weather, you will be able to select almost any city in UK,
but i have not found a way to change country
Hope that helps |
thanks a lot jetjet.
unfortunately before reading your reply i accessed the service menu and did indeed see the infolink setting was off. i tried to navigate to that option with the right arrow and suddenly a factroy reset occured. that was an unpleasent suprise. i am not sure what it reset, other than date and country setting etc. i am now nervous about entering the sevice menu again. i guess i have to navigate with up and down arrows only.
fortunately, after the reset the picture still looked the same.
when my heart beat returns to normal i will try again to get to the infolink option. interestingly the whole chapter regarding infolink is not in my manual. it is in the manual i downloaded of the samsung site. i am concerned that i have been givien a duff model version as it seems they are out of stock everywhere. it took nearly two months for the tv to turn up following the order, i was ready to cancel and go for something else.
cheers

Service menu, apparently seems to reset all picture and sound settings to factory defaults, upon exit.
The strange thing about navigating into this menu,
is that although initial table of options covers most of the screen, when you start navigating these appear one at a time(there goes my down arrow comment).
User guides are adopted to each country the set is actually sold, but luckily the option exists, although hidden.
I actualy read about infolink in a local magazine review,
where they managed to activate it just by selecting UK in the first time setup.
In my case, since i travel a lot, it would be useful to be able to change the country in order to check weather forecast this way. Anyway news ticker is interesting,
though even my wii has richer mulimedia approach to that.
I also noticed that Samsung is abandoning Infolink and new sets will have some kind of widsets/rss feeds again from yahoo.
If they want to enhance their customers experience, i expect they include such changes in future updates of their firmware, as i will not change my new 55A956 for this reason in the coming years.
