786 has the LED backlight, and 756 CFFL

Re: Samsung LE-A780 SERIES LED

Has anyone had any luck removing the base from this model?

There is no info in the manual and after a quick search I have tried removing the four screws marked 'S', only two of wich come out of the back all together, and the base is still fixed to the TV?

Any ideas anyone?

All four screws should come out completely... they are a bit of a pain! I found using a magnetic screwdriver helped..... Good luck

Re: Samsung LE-A780 SERIES LED

Phoned samsung today and told them of the problem i was having, they told me to try a couple of things which i did to no avail, so they told me they will send somebody out to repair it, at this stage i thanked them and said NO thanks because the tv is less than 24 hours old and should not be repaired. I'm going to take this up with the shop instead.

Cheers
rob.

No, the 756 still uses the older CCFL backlight technology but has the extra multimedia features (going by what's been posted). The 786 lacks these features but is LED backlit and is the TV I would go for.

Well it's a similar problem (without the green) but all the items involved are connected via HDMI.

Re: Samsung LE-A780 SERIES LED

I was using my previously posted settings for SkyHD which is connected via HDMI but is locked at an HDMI Black Level of Normal so I recalibrated for this setting by using the PS3 again but setting the HDMI Black Level to Normal.

Below are the settings I've come to which are quite close to the standard also. So these settings are ideal if you have the HDMI Black Level setting set to Normal, the other settings I posted (on page 64) are based upon an HDMI Black Level of Low.

Picture Settings
Mode: Movie
Backlight: 6
Contrast: 95
Brightness: 39
Sharpness: 20 (personal preference this one)
Colour: 46
Tint: 49/51

Detailed Settings
Black Adjust: Off
Dynamic Contrast: Off
Gamma: -1

Colour Space
Red: 49/10/0
Green: 29/50/16
Blue: 8/3/55
Yellow: 45/53/17
Cyan: 41/45/51
Magenta: 46/18/44

White Balance: 21/25/22/27/25/14
Flesh Tone: 0
Edge Enhancement: Off
xvYCC: Off

Picture Options
Colour Tone: Warm2
Digital NR: Off
DNIe: Off
HDMI Black Level: Normal
Smart LED: On

Setup
Energy Saving: Off

Hi, I am very close to buy this tv but robert_1 experience is put me off.
can anyone reassure me that not everybody has had the same experience??? and if yes, did you easily find a solution to this problem without any need for sansung servicing?
Thank You in advance for your eventual help.

I've read of some others that have it but I don't. As always with the internet, you always here from the people that have problems and rarely from those that don't.

Magnetic screwdriver was no use to me. I did manage to get them all out in the end though by lying the TV face down. It seems when there is weight on the stand the top two screws won't come out properly.

Either way.....all sorted now

Like mparter already pointed out, the 756 has some multimedia features that teh 786 has not, on the other hand 786 has (dimming) LED backlight, which renders better blacks and nicer picture colors. So it all depends on your definition of "better"; better picture quality or more functionality?

Personally I would always go with the 786. The MM features are minimal compared with using a real MM center like a PC or a PS3.

Honest answer is: yes, viewing angle is quite limited.

I have a three seater at 3.8m viewing distance centered in front of the TV and it gives no issues, but when leaning a bit against the arm rests differences can already be seen. Any angle outside 15-20 degrees off center renders weaker, washed out colors and blacks and also blooming becomes quite visible.

Yes mparter, I have had similar issues like you describe, although not (yet) to the extend I had to power off / on to recover. There have been a few occasions where some "screen of death" with color bars came flickering through after an input change. I assume, like you do, that it is a HDMI (re)connect issue.

So far with the very few limited occasions I can live with it. And I bet Samsung service can't do much about it if it really is troublesome HDMI handshaking.

Re: Samsung LE-A780 SERIES LED

My 786 has just arrived. Just setting it up now. It was a Christmas present to ourselves and the plan was to keep it in the box until Christmas day but the temptation was to great. Only have the internal Freeview picture to look at at the moment . Have to say the SD picture out of the box is better then I expected.

I would agree, picture quality will always be the better selling point. As you say, as a PS3 will be hooked up I'll have all the MM I need.

I'd like to wall mount it but the room doesn't lend it. The viewing angle is better then I expected. For the moment I'm pretty pleased.

Attached.

On reflection, I may need to tweak the gamma, especially down low but I'm all calibrated out just now
