Toshiba 32AV504 picture settings

I have just bought this tv and would like to know the best picture settings.
Theres is a setting called "black stretch" which I assume gives it the 20000:1
contrast ratio but I think picture looks better without it.

Any advice gratly received....

Re: Toshiba 32AV504 picture settings

Hi, i have the 37" version and i have turned off the black stretch which makes the picture look false. I have set mine up nice but i don't know if my settings would work as well on yours. I will post them on here if you like.

Re: Toshiba 32AV504 picture settings

Backlight 60
Contrast 42
Brightness 56
Colour 36
Tint 0
Sharpness -30
Black stretch off
MPEG NR low
DNR Auto
Colour temp cool

BASE COLOUR ADJUSTMENT.

RED> HUE +2 SATURATION 0 BRIGHTNESS -1
BLUE > -1 -2 -1
YELLOW > +2 -2 -3
MAGENTA>-6 -3 -2

I hope these settings are ok for you. They look good on mine but then i find things like this are individual. It all depends on the source, I'm using sky+ .
Let me know how you get on.My Xbox 360 thru component looks good i just put the picture onto the standard setting by the remote.

Re: Toshiba 32AV504 picture settings

Anyone comment on the quality of blacks on the 32AV504. Does the 'black stretch' feature have anything to do with turning dynamic contrast on/off?

Re: Toshiba 32AV504 picture settings

Hi there,

I think the "black stretch" turns the dynamic contrast on. In my opinion it makes the picture look terrible and unrealistic so I leave it off.

I have ordered a 504 model myself and phoned Toshiba and they told me that the 504 and 505 have the same specs, the only difference being that the 504 model's pedestal and some HD logo thing are grey whereas in the 505 model everything is black. So the diferences are only cosmetic.

Hi, I have just seen those settings in the Ebuyer review page for the 32" model, the only difference being that CINEMA MODE is given as ON. I wonder if the poster on that website made a typing mistake.

ah, thx for the info.

Someone asked about the blacks on this set, imo they are awesome, I came from a Hanspree JT-AV37 which i sent back, so only have that as a measuring stick, but the difference is mega... deep deep blacks and virtually no ghosting ever. What I like best is on old programmes like 'porridge', 'only fools and horses', 'star trek', 'red dwarf' ect on my old ntl/virgin cable box look way way better than the hannspree. Tho for some reason Eurosport-1 looks absoulute cack while Eurosport-2 looks ok. (edit, just looked at those channels and now it's the other way round, lol, i know it's to do with the appaling virgin/ntl signal quality and compression.)

The only thing i can gripe at is the crappy sound, i can't find a setting i like; i guess some kind of sound kit is next on my shopping list.. so i wonder what ouputs my old ntl pace1000 has on it for sound setups.... ir blaster ?? whats that? because the only other jacks it has are standard red+white phono jacks, I think. If anyone knows a cheap and good sys that will work on the pace1000 could you let me know.

Re: Toshiba 32AV504 picture settings

Hi i also just purchased the Av504 32" but i am having to use an indoor amplified aerial at the moment

Ihave put in the above settings that were listed but i cant seem to find where to change Black stretch off,MPEG NR low,DNR Auto,Colour temp cool. Where do i change this ? Also my screen seems slightly duller now, i should just adjust the brightness up a bit yes? Some bits seem fuzzier than before, when viewing the panel on Uefa 08 for example, is that a case of changing the sharpness a bit more ? I understand im restricted atm till i get my loft cable in, so any advice is greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

In regards to the Black stretch etc this is found after sharpness, just press down again and you should be on page two

Many peoples houses have different lighting or sitting distances so some of the settings may need to be changed a little, i have all my settings the same as above but the sharpness is only turned down to -20.

The colours may seem to be washed out but when you think about it it's almost life like, when i see other peoples LCD's everyone looks like they have David Dickison tans.

HD content look fantastic too.

Normally done from the source eg. digi-box, Sky box etc.

Something like an amp would be best but only if you had a spare £200.

Re: Toshiba 32AV504 picture settings

Just a quick post to mention that if you have a little back light bleed on your 32AV505/504DB (not sure if any other Toshiba sets would benefit) try lowering the back light to 30 (from 60 or..) and raising the brightness to the 70's (personal taste there-in). This also helps with blacks.

I'm still testing settings so if you feel this doesn't work for you then go back to the old settings.

Just to summarise:

Back Light: 30
Brightness: 70's

Other options: Personal taste.

Re: Toshiba 32AV504 picture settings

I have the 32" AV505, and I find the standard settings to be the best. I tried the settings posted here, but the picture just gets this gray overlay and there aren't any colors :|

I've tried through X360, xbox, PS3, this black box from ntl/Virgin with amazingly crappy signal, and Popcorn Hour for HD programs. Any other settings for this set out here?

Re: Toshiba 32AV504 picture settings

To be honest mate everyone's taste in picture settings is different, if im not mistaken the default settings are something along the lines of Backlight 100, Brightness 100 etc etc. These settings give a very crude and fake image.

If you are lacking colour try putting it up to 40 or 50 something.

Otherwise the settings are personal preference, the settings here are just a guideline to a better image.
