Ok so am i using the best connection for my 360?

I could use component, but then my HD films will only be displayed in 1080i. But games would still be 1080p.

I've gone through most of this thread now and lots of peeps are saying to use Full Pixel when using the VGA. But i can't select that option when in VGA?!

I've seen some settings threads. Would it be a good start to use the HDMI settings for the VGA? Would like to get my HD DVD's to look similar to Blu Ray ones though HDMI.

Thanks

Actually, since the Xbox can't output 1080p24 for HD-DVDs (so I believe), outputting at 1080i60 and putting film mode on on the television should reconstruct the 1080p24 signal perfectly! Games should still work at 1080p via component. VGA should automatically engage 1:1 mapping i.e. full pixel.

re: Sony 32/40/46/52 W4000 Full HD(Bravia Engine 2,33.000:1 Contrast) Thread

Thanks for your reply.

If VGA automatically engages 1:1 that probably makes sense why i can't access that setting when in VGA mode.

Interesting that you say if i used components and output the HD films at
1080i the Sony TV would upscale the image to 1080p/24.

Would i be better off doing that then or sticking to VGA and getting the 360 to output everything, games and films at 1080p.

Like i said before, when i set the 360 to output at 1080p it did take longer for the Sony TV to recognise the picture. I did start to think that the Sony TV was downscaling the image so that it could display it. But when i select VGA on the Sony TV it does say 1080p/60Hz in the top left corner. So i'm guessing it is displaying it in that resolution?!

Reason i ask is in the manual it says the maximum resolution is 1280 x 1024.
I've added an attachment to the bit in the manual i'm referencing.

Thanks

Do you mind if I ask what you paid for the deal? Going to be in the market for a new set in the next few days and the W4000 is a strong contender.. if I could get a PS3 thrown in at my local Sony Centre on one, that'd be all the persuading I'd need tbh!

Cheers.

I paid £834 in total.

The deal was a w4000 with a blu ray player and 5 years warranty for £799

If you wanted the Ps3 it was an extra £50.
I also got a HMDI cable for £40.

They also had 10% off everything this weekend, which they applied when everything was added together.

Thanks, thought so. In the Brighton sony centre this deal is £899 with the 40w4000 and 80g PS3 and 5 year warranty; is that what you paid? Did you manage to blag any goodies out of them for the inconvenience of having to wait for the PS3? I was thinking of picking up this deal this week as i am in the market for both and this seems like a good deal.

The cheapest i found it alternatively is £750 for the set and 5 year warranty from Richer Sounds and £293 for PS3, Resistance 2, mirrors edge, HDMI and Blue ray remote = 1043 (Amazon). If they don't have any PS3 in stock then i might try and blag some extra's with it

£799 with 5 year warranty and a Blu-Ray player would do me very nicely...

Here's hoping my local Sony Centre can knock up such an offer when I come to buy.. hoping it'll be this weekend.

Thanks for the info

Turned out to be the outdated Nvidia driver. Now that I've installed the new one it fills the screen properly and even outputs 24p.

Does anyone know what the exact difference is between cinema and standard settings. Because even if all the other settings are set the same the picture is slightly different. I think i read somewhere they have different gamma profiles, and this effects the blacks or/and shadow detail, is this correct.?

Deal in local Sony Centre (Wood Green - North London)

40W4000 + 80GB PS3 (Little Big Planet bundle) + S350 Blu Ray Player + 5yr warranty for £899

Considering the TV on it's own was averaging higher than that two months ago that's pretty much a steal.

That IS a good deal. Why do you suppose they are selling them so cheap; it's £850 with a PS3 in my local SC? If you intend on getting a PS3 anyway, then there really is no alternative but this deal; if you buy an entry/mid range tv for £400 (plus ~50 for a warranty) then fork out 300 for the PS3, that's £750. You may as well pay the extra hundred and get a pretty amazing tv (that's how i convinced my girlfriend anyway )

That's an astonishing deal.. I'm hoping that my local Sony Store either has that deal or will match it!

No chance to get down there during the week so the weekend is my only hope!

Thanks

One of the best in it's price category. there's a good review at HDTV Reviews – LCD TV & Plasma Television Display Rating where they test also the gaming aspects.

I don't think the light bleed/clouding is a big issue on this model. It pretty much depends on a person or the TV that you'll get from the store. There are faulty units where the bleeding is a big issue but in generel they're pretty minimal.

Absolutely! I have the 360, PS3, Wii etc and it shines with them all. It's a fantastic TV and worth every penny of the £970 i paid a few months ago!

Hi Mate, this TV is excellent for gaming. Motion is superb and absolutely no lag. After looking to buy a LCD for many months, I came to the conclusion this was the best TV for me, and my main use for it is gaming and SD Sky. I brought mine only last week once I saw the price drop to under £700, I just couldn't resist

Thought as much! I don't know what the moaners wanted; the imax scenes cut out of the blu-ray and use the theatre versions instead, or for them to film the whole feature with big ass 65mms!

Picking it up tomorrow, can't wait.

Is £1200 a good deal for a 40" W4000 and a Sony RHT-G900 stand with a 5 year warrenty included? Also how do people that own a W4000 feel it performs when watching football on TV and gaming via the PS3, Does the lack of 100Hz make any noticeable difference?

re: Sony 32/40/46/52 W4000 Full HD(Bravia Engine 2,33.000:1 Contrast) Thread

Hi

Can someone confirm the best PS3 settings for this TV - there is all sorts in the PS3 options. Also what TV settings to use with the PS3?

I watched Bond on it the other night, and the picture was impressive, but not sure it is still 100% right, any teaks welcome

I did search, but nothing, I found a thread the other day, but can not find it now?
