What does backlight bleed look like?

This may be a stupid question but I have small cloud of 'yellow light at the top left hand corner of my Panasonic 32LXD700 which I assumed was backlight bleed?

However, I have seen some photos of backlight bleed on the forum and it looks like white clouds?

So now not sure whether my Tv actually has backlight bleed or just uneven backlight or poor blacks?

It does seem to vary in intensity and according to the blacks in the programme. It is more obvious on a blank screen.

I have tried turning down both contrast and brightness but this makes no difference.

Uneven backlight, clouding. Picture is from a Samsung 22" Pebble LCD monitor

Picture created in Paint, to show true black, with a LCD with 100% even backlight. A true black on LCD is impossible, however it should be even.

Picture is from Samsung M87, baclight at 4/5

Re: What does backlight bleed look like?

Cheers for that.

Well my clouding isn't white but the screen definitely isn't even.

Should I be able to get it replaced due to this? It really is annoying when a dark scene comes on as my eyes are drawn to this flipping yellow cloud in the corner.

Adjusting settings hasn't made any difference. I wonder whether turning the backlight down might help although, with this TV you have to use the Service Menu!

The problem is I'm afraid I might get a replacement which is even worse!

Question Re: What does backlight bleed look like?

This is really doing my head in as I am still not sure whether what I am seeing is true backlight bleed or uneven backlight?

It does seem to depend on the blacks with hardly being noticable at times to being very noticable and distracting!

As I said it isn't a 'white cloud' but more yellowy?

The guy I bought it from is going to come and see it after the holidays but this will be during the daytime when it isn't so bad.

I would ever so much appreciate it if owners of the Panasonic 32LXD700 or 70 could check a blank channel for at night-time and let me know what you see.

It is really spoiling what is otherwise a great TV and I have to admit I have become a little bit obsessed about it now and my eyes keep being drawn to the top left hand corner in dark scenes!!

I would ever so much appreciate advice.

I'm afraid I can't post pictures since one of my cats peed on my camera and I haven't got a replacement yet! For the camera that is not the cat!!!

Re: What does backlight bleed look like?

It's backlight bleed. I had the exact same thing. In the bottom left corner there was a big yellow ball shaped light on mine. It's simply the light shining through the panel, it's bleeding through, so it's backlight bleed.

Re: What does backlight bleed look like?

Hi Liz
sorry to hear you are having problems.Ihave just checked my Panasonic on a blank screen and turned the lights off (even the christmas tree) and the picture looks pretty even all over.I have also played my Blade Runner DVD which has lots of dark scenes and it looks fine.

What you have described would drive me nuts, personaly i would be after a replacement. After all it is not a cheap tv.

Thumbs up Re: What does backlight bleed look like?

Thanks both!

It doesn't seem so bad after the TV has been on for a while but still not happy that is there so will be after a replacement TV. As you said Russell, it is not a cheap TV.

The problem is with the Tv guy coming in the daytime he is not going to notice it so much so hope he takes my word for it.
I was going to try turning down the backlight to see if that would make a difference but am a bit concerned that this might invalidate the warranty.
I know I could put it back to original settings but wouldn't be able to do this if the TV 'died'.

I have to say I am worried the replacment might have something like a dead pixel or buzzing which would be worse!

It is so annoying as I put so much research into getting this set and can't be bothered with the hassle.

Will let you know how I get on after the holidays. In the meantime I will have to keep the Tv on for longer than usual.
