Yeah thought that was odd, im just pleased i got a pre-order in as ill still pay the lower price, but i suppose they can wack the price up as they know it will sell, it will only be a matter of months and it will be reduced

I've been holding out ages for this TV and was tempted by the X series, its only real purpose is to be hooked up to the 360 and will proberly have an HD player connected up to it when the HD-EP30 Player comes out

Re: Toshiba Z series thread.

I see that Digital-point and Electrocentre are doing this set for £1179-00 and say they are in stock!! Has anybody dealt with these places before, to me they seem to be the same company with the same address, very odd.

Re: Toshiba Z series thread.

I think Electrocentre is the name of the actual shop...digital-point is their online business. I've used digital point before though not for a TV. I thought their service was very good and I've seen some other positive feedback on here about them. I wouldn't hesitate in using them again.

Re: Toshiba Z series thread.

Just noticed on the Toshiba website that the Z series is no longer in the 'coming soon' state and is avaiable from their shop at £1299.98

I've lost count of the number of times i've been on that site to see when it will be in stock - lol

that tv looks great indeed
I wonder if it will be too big for a 9 feet viewing distance, or should I look at the 37"?

even 9 feet is too far for ideal 1080p viewing distance
7.5 feet is best for 42" and 1080p

Like many members I have been waiting patiently for the release of the Z series. At long last they are now beginning to filter through the system and I look forward to reading the reviews. If I buy a 37" Z I will be watching SD on Sky, Terrestial analogue, or Freeview and, HD DVD's probably, initially, via an upscaling DVD Recorder. Sky HD or the new Freesat service to be launched next spring may provide the HD input. There has been a lot of discussion within this thread about 5:4 or 5:5 pulldown. Will some kind soul please explain, without being too technological, what this means and if I am not going to play games on my new Tosh, need I concern myself about this aspect?
Also, does anyone know, please, whether the ZF40 will be the same spec as the 37Z apart from the 40" picture frame. Many thanks. It's a minefield out there!

Re: Toshiba Z series thread.

I ordered the 42Z3030D last night from the Tosh website as a replacement for my 37WLT58 (much loved but in need of replacement). Just couldnt resist.

Managed to get it for £1050 due to a discount so its gotta be worth that even if its half as good as I hope it is...

Says it will be despatched within 7 days so will post my findings when I receive it.

Anyone else taken the plunge and ordered one?

Doesn't look like there will be a 40ZF .... only 46ZF. I guess they might introduce one sometime next year though:

Toshiba X & Z Series TV's

Hi Keith,

The 5:5 pulldown promised by Toshiba should mean that (depending on the individual discs and players) you should be able to watch films at a true 24fps as in the cinema (the alternative is a 4% speedup to 25fps, or a frame insertion which means that the film plays at the correct speed, but there would be a slight judder which is particularly noticeable on pans or steadily moving objects).

It should be pointed out that these two alternatives are something that people have been living with for decades with PAL and NTSC SD without much complaint!

It shouldn't affect games or UK SD/HD TV transmissions (even if they are transmissions of films).

5:4 pulldown appears to be a misprint (we hope).

Nice....excellent discount too. How did you manage that then? You'll have to let us all know what you think of it. I'm quite tempted myself but I'd really like to see and HDTVTEST review first and I'm seriously tempted by the slinky looks of the upcomming ZF

Ah yes, but remember a 46inch ZF is only the same physical size as a regular 42 incher:

http://www.home-entertainment.toshib...f?opendocument

I know this is for the XF, but I guess the same applies.

Have yo considered the XF? There is a 40incher and it isn't just a shrunk Xseries....it has newer processing and a different panel. More like a ZF lite. Differences from the Z series: it's missing 100Hz, deep colour over HDMI and the dynamic gamma correction thingy.

Re: Toshiba Z series thread.

i was looking at some Tosh's in Comet earlier, and I just dont like the clawfoot stand thing, especially with it being silver. Because it protrudes below the TV i found it distracting.

If the 100hz turns out to be a turkey (much like on the Samsung F series), the XF could be a very viable option. But what would I be missing with the HDMI dowhatsit and the dynamic dingdongathing?

So it does. Hadn't noticed that. Not sure that it's not a typo though because they are missing from "feature symbols" at the top of the spec page. Toshiba's site does seem a bit prone to spec typos at the mo (5:5 vs 5:4 pulldown).

Good news if it does have these feature though

Re: Toshiba Z series thread.

Aaaaghhh. Alas. Its through work. Otherwise you guys would have had a link for sure. Dont work for Tosh but my employer seems to have a deal with them and I get pretty good discounts with Tosh. Worked out about 20 percent.

Only a set amount of things I can by a year though and I have my eyes set on a reduced price Tosh HD-DVD player

Didnt want you to think I worked for Tosh to get the discount and hence be biased in my opinion. If its bad I will tell you... then I will cry

Don't forget the XF is lacking 24fps with 5:5 pulldown too.

Re: Toshiba Z series thread.

Right, I've emailed them to find out the lowdown on the 5:5 with the XF (also pointing out the 5:4 typo on the Z).
Also asking for £age and dates!

Checked the specs on the 46XF355D - REGZA and it will fit in the same space as your average 40/42 incher which sounds great. Are there any other differences from the z series apart from those you mention? its being advertised at around £1400

Re: Toshiba Z series thread.

Check my above email from Tosh RE: the XF. It will convert 24p to 50/60hz rather than use 5:5 pulldown to display it to 24p.

Whether this makes judder or just gives an overly fluid/false picture, I don't know. I'm sure HDTVTest is the place for answers once it surfaces.

Couldn't see any specs in the manual for acceptable component signals, sorry
But it does 1:1 pixel map right?
I mean, the resolution in xbox360 can be at 1366x768 but in the tv we can watch it full screen right?
Hope you understand what I mean
