X3030 Toshiba Owners & Pre-Owners Thread

Right - this is it!

There are a few of us out here who are thinking of buying this set - and there are those of you out there that have them - and we want your feedback (and maybe, your tellies too!).

Get your cameras out for the lads and get some shots of your X3030's! You have em, we wanna see em!

Also, I personaly would like to know this...

I'm about to buy a set, and this Tosh could be the one, do you think as an owner (or just as someone knowledgeable) that movement is good/fine on this set wihtout waiting for the Z series?

Also, what do you think of the black levels on this set?

All feedback, photo's and questions here!

Viva la regza!

I'd also like to know does this set accept SVIDEO as this is my preferred DVD output.

I would HIGHLY recommend you just get a HDMI upscaling DVD player rather than buying your HDTV around the S-VIDEO output of your DVD player.

S-VIDEO is 480p, which poor even in comparision to RGB SCART 576i. I recommend you get a DVD Upscaler.

Don't forget this TV is a 1080p native TV, so your standard def stuff will look appalling on it via S-VIDEO.

Yeah it's a good point! I don't think it would have swayed my decision, just handy to know that's all.

Cheers bolt!

No concerns with movement

> Also, what do you think of the black levels on this set?

Black levels seems very good to me, no concerns in that department either

hdtvtest.co.uk will be updating their review later today which discusses these subjects in great depth.

I'll try to upload some photos if I can do the screen justice!

Re: X3030 Toshiba Owners & Pre-Owners Thread

Think I'm going to purchase this 37" set myself, moving house in 2 weeks and I've convinced the missus (although its going get some serious Xbox 360 abuse ). Love the idea of full 1080 for the Xbox through component.

Happy to see good reports about it, now to find a good price either here in Northern Ireland or low shipping from one of the online suppliers. What price have u your current owners got them for?

I'm thinking of the 37" too...but I hear the contrast ratio is a lot less!?

Anyone know anything more on that?

But I'm thinking 37" will help me get away with a bit more as far as SD quality is concerned.

Re: X3030 Toshiba Owners & Pre-Owners Thread

Looks like I'm going to opt for this set too (42") but I have a question regarding resolution with PC use - to get the full 1920 x 1080, do I have to connect via DVI-HDMI?

What is the max supported resolution via the D-SUB connector?

Thanks,

Gavin

PS JASYMORR

If you find a good price in N. Ireland please let me know as I'm also in N. Ireland

See, I was all spontaneous then (still going tonight if my other half hurries the F up!) and then you throw in an option, a query, a choice! Damn you.

Is it technicaly any better? 37 is just right for the room as it stands, and also because it will go nicely in the bedroom if I upgrade again soon.

The only thing that bothers me is the black levels, because I know the con-rat is 3500:1 where as the 42" is 6000:1

Re: X3030 Toshiba Owners & Pre-Owners Thread

I have the 37" and I love it for HDMI and VGA picture quality and colour - but Component is awful at 1080p for the 360 at default and I just can't seem to get a good setting for it, so much so I just gave up and went back to VGA at 1360x

Attached are a couple of photos I took illustrating Freeview and Xbox 360 hooked up to the X3030; apologies in advance, there's no way my mediocre camera will allow me to do the display justice, hopefully they'll leave you with a good impression.

Photos are from the 42" model, note the 37" model has a decreased contrast ratio of 3500:1.

Re: X3030 Toshiba Owners & Pre-Owners Thread

Acutally, both Xbox 360 shots are using the component input at 1080p; I don't have the VGA cable so I'm unable to compare.

I took shots using the same camera of the TV hooked up to a PS3 via HDMI and to be frank, you couldn't tell the difference because of the limitations of my camera - the HDMI image is unsurprisingly extremely sharp/crisp.

@KennyMo1:

According to hdtvtest, the lower contrast ratio of the 37" model should mean that black levels are not as good:

"The 37inch panel for the X3030D states a 3500:1 contrast ratio, which should mean a different panel than the 42 inch and worse yet, poorer blacks."

After the recent dashboard update surely the VGA connection is the one of choice anyway - being that it fixed the black level problem - and is often considered sharper and more 'accurate' than component anyway ??!!

Blacks have been fine on the 37" for me, its just that component colours are overblown and very hard to get matched up to the excellent VGA performance and HDMI range.

I know - but the problem there is that VGA on the Tosh doesn' run in 1920x1080

hdtvtest.co.uk have said they'll post there pro-calibration settings if there's demand - according to their review they make the world of difference.
