HDTV- scan lines on SD console games?

Im hoping someone can shed some light on this for me The problem is, most noticeably when playing zelda through my RGB scart on gamecube, that when fast movements, or sometimes just randomly when im running, what i can only describe as "scan lines" become visible over the character. What i mean is, the movement kind of blurs into an image where the character suddenly appears with visible lines, what i assume are the lines of the screen, over them. Is this because im displaying from a source that isnt HD, so there isnt enough information to fill the screen without showing the lines or something? The game doesnt support 16x9 widescreen, so im playing it stretched, could it be a result of this? It is less noticeable when the screen is set to 4:3, but still there. I dont notice it when viewing on my CRT screen. My set is an LE32R74BDX. Im worried this could be a problem with refresh rate or something? Thanks.

Sounds like interlace scan lines to me - you see them because a TFT is essentially progressive scan, rather than the old CRTs which were interlaced.

Unless you can run the console through component cables (or somehow have it make a progressive image?), you're stuck with them, I'm afraid..

does it make a differenec whether im running the game at 50 or 60HZ? I can live with the lines, i just wanted to know what it was. And i assume all will be fine when i feed it an xbox 360 in 720p, or when i get my upscaling player?

720p means progressive, so yes, that'll be fine. Upscaling players will normally go progressive too
