After much deliberation, I asked for a replacement due to light bleed and a stuck pixel. The new one arrived today. After setting it up I immediately noticed the bottom right corner absolutely swamps back light bleed across the tv. Viewing angles don't seem as good. Colour is ok in the center, but a different hue towards the sides. There's also a dead pixel in left of center, however I can only spot it if it's on a blue image, and white. Can a dead pixel only be dead for certain colours?

A bit deflated. Will test the tv out at night time so I can check it out in a pitch black room, then decide whether it's worth keeping or replacing. As other members have found before, replacing tv's leads down a dark spiral :O

Going to be getting either the 46ES7000 or 8000 in the next few days, and want to get the Disney WOW disc ready for the inevitable bleed, to see if it helps. Looking on Amazon there's a 2-disc and a 1-disc version, one has 'HD' on the front, another with 'HDTV'... which one did those of you who are using this disc get?

Off to JL tomorrow to decide which of the 2 to get. I was decided on the 7000 (got a PM at £1299 already) but might pay the £140 extra for the 8000 (electrocentre PM). Am I right in thinking the only difference is the dimming ultimate vs pro, and the surround? Are the panels identical? Anybody been able to try these side-by-side in a non-shop environment?

Thanks.

How many screens did you swap before you settled on one?

Thing about the summer is I have to wait until late, late before the room is dark enough to check out the light bleed properly to know if it's going to bother me. If it's good, then I may keep it, even it has a dead pixel.

... and one more thing, I submitted an online form for the Galaxy Tab 2 a week past Wednesday and I've still received not email of confirmation. Is this normal?

I had a CRT before this tv and the CRT blacks had a grey film over it, so I guess I can't complain that much :P

That's because of a rather disasterous bug that surfaced in 1012 regarding the network handshaking, causing the TV to connect to a router and report it's not connecting when it is.
The update was issued at once as most people don't know how to upgrade via USB.

CLYDEBEST "I believe it was you who praised Samsung tech support, I take it you are not referring to the U.K.."
Correct, I was referring to the Norwegian tech support!
Not that it's a valid excuse, but the official line is that Samsung are in rapid expansion and are training new staff on an ongoing basis.
Apparently not fast enough in the UK

"Do you get much wind in your living room?"
Only after a good curry or taco night

The apps system has been slightly modified in 1014 so you may have to reinstall your favourite apps from the menu if they are not in the usual place when you open SmartHub.
Don't forget you can delete unwanted apps via the tools menu when you highlight the unwanted app, so you can reclaim the memory back, as indicated by the onscreen memory meter.
One app you should install if you haven't already done so is the EXPLORE 3D showcase app, there's lots of trailers, demos and full length programmes in brillinat quality but you will need a good internet connection speed to eliminate any buffering.
Even though the 8000 has wireless built in, always use a network cable directly to your main router if you can, just to squeeze out every Mbps, if you find the videos prone to skipping.

If anyone is experiencing abnormal picture problems such as clouding, etc, this is NOT a firmware issue and cannot be fixed by any update.
But as I have mentioned in an earlier post, this set should be run for at least 100 hours (not continually!) before you can finally do final adjustments as that is when the screen is burned in (in a good way!).

By the way, check out the new bluetooth keyboard & trackpad that's available for the 8000, it's compact, not "plasticy" at all and has a good weight, perfect for using with the TV browser.

That's it until next week, I'm off to sunny Spain for some R&R
Have a great Summer!
I believe and live in hope that the clouding issues can be corrected with a firmware update.
My es8000 was perfect until updating 2 firmwares back when i got terrible clouding which has stuck around ever since. I am gutted as ive had it a few months and there is no way they will take it back now.

Yes it's appalling, why didn't they even offer an option to use the touch pad on the universal remote? Fail!

Cool. I'll wait a while longer before I try contacting them.

Update on tv used at night - the black borders don't show any signs of the extreme torching from the corners the last set did. Even though there's a lot of clouding, it's more uniform, rather than being very patchy and bright in one specific area.

Seeing as how I've been testing the tv all day and reading up on it, I can't tell if I'm picking up on something that existed with the previous set or my mind is looking out for more problems. The standard definition upscaling seems to be way worse! There's far more artifacts around objects, faces, even text has blocky patches beyond it's typography. The motion doesn't seem as good either, maybe due to there being more artifacts trailing with everything.

The screen looks washed out. Previous set managed to have deep blacks, yet retain detail (with dynamic contrast and black settings left off). This set looks to have a film over it. The extra settings just get rid of the detail when I try and give it a more punchy look, which I didn't need to do before.

Previous set was smooth with motion even without using motion plus, however the new one seems juddery. Movement is poor and white lines tend to flicker. Using Clear or Smooth preset helps a little, yet gives a soap opera effect. Watched some Transformers 3 with Smooth on and it was quite amusing at how amateur the film looked and yet how awesome the special effects were.

The 3D seems improved compared to the last set. I don't know if that's because I updated with the latest firmware, or the tv sets really vary one to the other. Suddenly the background wasn't as much of a blurry/jarring mess and the foreground subjects were nice and sharp.

So, pros: improved 3d, more uniform black borders on films (even though it still has clouding)

cons: terrible standard definition upscaling, more artifacts, unsmooth motion, dead pixel, washed out look.

More testing to be done tomorrow.

Unhappy White text on black background goes grey - still!

It's quite a while since I last posted here, so there might have already been an answer to this issue but here goes ...
Whenever white text appears on a black background it show as grey, not bright white. As the background gets lighter, so the white text gets brighter along with it.
It's as if the set is trying to do some sort of automatic contrast or black level compensation (not sure if this is "micro-dimming" or some other "feature" kicking in).

Interesting note: When watching a movie on LoveFilm the closing titles (white text on black background) seemed to be consistently bright white, without any of the dimming issues described above. This strikes me as a bit odd as I would have thought that any automatic screen adjustments would be independent of the source signal.

I have tried adjusting most of the settings but without any improvement. Personally I find it pretty annoying so any fix would be welcome.

Hi Everyone,

Could anyone recomend a good wireless keyboard and mouse that works well at a distance with the ES8000, I did buy one but it only worked right next the the TV. When I say distance I'm talking 6 - 8 feet maybe.

Thanks :-)

Bummer, i've gone from awsome to can't watch a 3d film at all.
I like hows theres alternative upgrade option but it does'nt work.
Totally wack.
Edit

Just tryed same sources from pc using Smooth video project and issues are'nt there so for me it looks as if 1014 has a issue with its judder settings on faster pans.

I'm using a Microsoft Wireless 7000 keyboard. It has a track pad like thing on the right and clickable mouse style buttons on the far left. Seems to work well. Managed to get the keyboard and the wireless 8000 mouse as a bundle off ebay a few years ago for about £30.

I own a PS51E8000, but as there seem to be a lot more ES8000 owners here and the update file seems to be the same for these TV's, I thought i ask here too.

I'm having issues with Youtube TV app after i updated to 1014. I have to sign in every time i open the Youtube app. It doesn't remember my account anymore. Does anyone have this problem?

Another problem is with pairing it to Android Youtube app, this stopped working about a week ago. But i believe this is a general Youtube problem, as i have this problem also on my PC (youtube.com/leanback) and i have found some forum posts from iPhone owners who seem to be having the same issue.

If you have any of the issues, I would appreciate if you could also post your TV firmware information. I'm trying to find out what exactly causes these issues.

My TV information:
PS51E8000
Firmware version: 1014
Smart Hub version: 4.452-5.0
Youtube on TV app version: 1.041

I'm having issues with 24p and motion settings active, anything faster than a slow pan i get a nasty judder.
Considering it was'nt there before the update and svp shows the same source as smooth as it should be i have a issue, do'nt matter wether it's bluray or sbs

Hi, i have taken some pictures with the lights off, i notice standerd settings the tv is better at blacks, i prefer it over movie setting, as it seems more vivid and not washed out like movie setting, and without having to increase backlight, i have mine at 11 and eco sensor at 8 which i seem to settled for,

when i have it on movie setting, i seem to have torching on right bottom hand corner aint bad but can notice it, i notice the standerd setting seems to adjust according to background so no light bleed , just the normal grey which would have to expect with lcd anyway, at daytime the black is perfect and picture i cant complain,

still waiting for john lewis to get me a vat receipt so can claim the samsung tab, some reason when i log into my john lewis still says order processing

I've ordered from JL as well, delivery due next week, and I can't get my VAT receipt online either; the order isn't there.

Spoke to JL and it can take up to 10 working days once you request it apparently.....

I think Sept 24th or thereabouts is last day to claim.
