I think it depends on one's eyes to a degree. Are you watching it on the HD channels? When the camera pans left and right across the field the effect should be most noticeable. It's hardly experience-ruining, though.

I watched some of Roland Garros on ITV1 HD (most was on ITV4 SD - rubbish bitrate!) and it was fine. The ball leaves a slight trail, but again it's not really relevant and doesn't stop you being able to follow the action. I'd say football and rugby are the worst sports for noticing motion-handling 'problems'.

Roll on Wimbledon HD.

There's currently only 4 HD channels on Freeview, sadly. SKY HD has more and Freesat might have more in the near future.

1) Plug the laptop into HDMI port 1 (labelled on the back of the TV as 'HDMI 1/DVI').
2) Set the laptop's resolution to 1920x1080 (try 100% scaling first, assuming it can't be turned off).
3) Use the TV remote's source button to select the HDMI 1 input.
3) Go to the TV's settings menu and select, I think, the 'Picture Options' sub-menu. Once here you need to set the 'Screen Size' (or similarly-named) setting to 'Screen Fit' (it might be called 'Just Scan').

Having done all this you should have a 1:1 pixel-mapped 1920x1080 image from your laptop. Post back to let us know how you got on.
Why did you mention HDMI1 input? I don't think it matters which input I'm using, they are both the same. I will try switching them though.

I have found that only 'Screen Fit' setting works best for HDMI connection from laptop but text looks not as sharp as in laptop screen and I still can see little black borders around image when I closely look at TV screen. It's like few milimeters width. So I suppose it's still not 1:1 pixel mapping and something needs to be tweaked further. Though cable TV channels fills nicely whole screen with 'Wide Zoom' setting on TV and 'Widescreen' setting in cable set top box.

Thought I'd post on here as reading this thread confirmed to me that the Samsung UE40EH5000 was for me really. Granted it's a budget tv but considering it's performance (if would seem) it is an excellent buy.

With regards to price the cheapest I've seen anyone post on here is £390 (after quidco cashback) but I managed to find it cheaper on Pixmania for £372 (plus £29.90 delivery). But then you get £13 knocked off of the price this month with discount code PIXJUNEUK13 as it's spending over £360 which brings it to £388.90 delivered. PLUS if you do Nectar points and go through their website to Pixmania they are doing triple points (6 points per £1 spent) this month which gives you between £10.77 and £11.64 in nectar points dependant on whether they incl delivery cost or not into the points. So overall under £380

Very happy with that

UE40EH5000 & UE32EH5000, has anyone gone into their service menu to check what type of panels are used in these TV's, I know the more expensive Samsung LED's use S-PVA panels, it would be interesting to know what panels Samsung are using in these 2 models.

Hi all,

Can anyone who has this TV confirm it has an Ethernet socket that can stream files from a home network?

Amazon UK says it has, the Samsung website doesn't list one.

Thanks...

How do I find out and I will check for you. Aslong as it does not block the tv etc

I found this on avs forum, it may or not work, but if it does work, I wouldn't go changing anything in the service menu

using the remote control ...

"Put TV in standby. Press mute button, followed by 1 button, followed by 8 button, followed by 2 button, and then power button. All button presses are one right after the other."

That did not work. Tv is still great not having much problems with it only problem I am getting which is annoying is bad motion handling in dark areas and the odd slight motion blur this is only when playing xbox 360 games though. I have read up seems about normal for a 2012 samsung panel to be honest.

Yeah that does seem to be the weak link in an otherwise excellent LED TV set, a few people have mentioned motion blur on that US web site, but they have also said it wasn't bad enough to make them regret buying this model. For what it's worth the panel is probably a Samsung PVA or S-PVA, there's a user thread on avs forums with lots more info.

Yeh well to be honest it seems about standard of Samsung to have some motion issues on there 2011 / 2012 led sets regardless if it's 60hz or 100hz etc

So I don't think they will be a fix as such just get used to it does not put me off the set though because the actual image quality is worth keeping!

Yeah i guess, plus Fifa is horrid for Framerate issues anyway, so makes the motion look twice as bad..

Brightness at 5-7 looks too dark.

Ive tweaked mine a little and gone for:

Backlight - 14
Contrast - 85
Brightness - 50
Sharpness - 0
Colour - 45

Colour Mode: Cool

Shame we cant find proper setting for this tv!

I bought this TV 3 weeks ago from Amazon and since day one it has had a small niggling issue of the sound cutting out for 2 to 3 seconds when playing video files from a USB drive.

I have updated the firmware to 1017 and the problem persists.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I have seen another thread on here about the same problem on a different Samsung and was wondering if it's a fault and I should contact Amazon to have it replaced, or whether it is just a quirk of Samsung TVs and any replacement would do exactly the same thing?

Does anyone know why when i play a Dvd / Blu-Ray via my PS3 i cant change the HDMI Black Level from Normal to Low??

on Normal the Picture / Brightness seems very bright

i prefer "Low"

when i play Xbox 360 it lets me choose this!

Has no-one else seriously had this problem?

I contacted Amazon who sent me a replacement which arrived today. Just set it up and 26 minutes into an avi file it happened

In case it helps others, I think I have worked it out.

When the video has has the audio soundtrack in mp3 format, the sound cuts out for 2-3 seconds at approx 26 minutes and 52 minutes.

When the audio soundtrack is in AAC the issue does not occur.

Bit of a PITA but easily fixed by recoding any files that have the sound in mp3 format.

I may report it to Samsung as it seems to me to be a bug.

Thinking of getting one of these and clicked on this link to peruse the manual and I see a new firmware T-MST9DEUC-1018.1 dated 16th July!

Just bought the 32 for the Xbox over component. None of the above seem ideal. I've had a play, will post my numbers later in case it's of any use. Still not quite happy.

Hi all looking to buy this tv.
Does it come with a scart connection or not?
Can't see one on the Samsung website!
Thanks.

Hi - New member here
I have just got my new UE40EH5000 TV. £386.90 with free delivery from Dixons.
I have 2 initial questions:
1. Does the Ethernet(lan) port have any function?
2. Is there any way to ensure that the turning on of my Humax pvr will automatically switch the source from TV to hdmi1 and back to TV when turned off?

Is it possible to switch it off properly, and not just put it on standby? I can't seem to find a switch on the unit itself - when I press the on/off button on the remote, it just goes on standby with the red light on the corner of the set. The little joystick thing seems to do the same thing.

New firmware

Hi all,

I've got one of these on order. I checked the Samsung website a couple of days ago and I saw the new firmware released 16th. I went back on last night and they seem to have pulled it as it is no longer available for download.

Anyone heard anything?.

I can't find any FW at all, just for the US model and I don't know if that works with a European / Scandinavian one.

Either way, is it possible to upgrade the FW without a USB stick?
