Tested your images on 55HX853 also flipped and mirrored the clouding one absolutely perfect image no clouding or any change from the same pictures on my IPad
same colour levels no banding or any other differences in colour gradation complete uniformity of colour right across screen

This was mirrored from my IPad through apple TV to the screen and the blacks and whites were the same level of white and grey as on IPad

Completely stunned by this result as my grey cloudy patches seen on BT vision menu clearly are caused by quality of BT screens and the TV is amazingly clear of any dark patches using jpg images

Clearly it's rubbish in rubbish out first TV I have ever seen that is amazingly true to the broadcast as this tv picks up every imperfection

Was it with intelligent dimming on? My set would pass with that on, but I think it would be a different story without.

Not sure if you are using the app or not (i don't own an ipad).

For the normal web page -

When in reply scroll down to manage attachments, choose file then upload, think max size is 1280 * 1280 but i always set my pictures to 1000 * 750.

That's it. I'd be interested to see how the tests go without it.

The thing is with this set is that although there is some clouding without it, the dynamic control is so good it almost doesn't matter!

Is it possible for you to post your picture settings also have you set scene to cinema or general and use full format

Currently I using a tweaked version of the ones here. Sony HX850 (HX853) review - FlatpanelsHD

Need to play with my gaming settings a bit.

What's full format?

Honestly turn light sensor off as it really dulls the screen. These sets are already very efficient compared to plasma tvs.

One thing that would be cool is to use the monolith stand as a centre speaker for my 5.1. Just can't see it's possible though.

I didn't like light sensor on the HX823 i had, it messed with brightness as well and i don't like my devices playing with settings.

It really does take a lot of punch out of the image for no gain at all.

Horses for courses though.

Robert Whyte have the 55" listed at £1469, including a 5 year warranty (which helps when trying for a price match from JL). JL Glasgow have happily price matched them in the past, so maybe worth a try. They may charge for delivery though?

Interesting going to try this as well, seems I have 28 days after receipt of the tv to get a price match so as I have not even got it yet going to try as many times as I can, so if anyone does get a price match please let me know :-)

I'd love to see the full grey but clouding seems to be a non issue during the day anyway

Have you a quick way of setting optimum settings for night as day is spot on but night seems too bright without a dusting backlight down say from 8 to 6 or lower

Thanks local dimming set on bright sunlight over screen from window
In the real world from about 3 metres away it looks spot on pretty close to how it looks on my Ipad wasn't expecting a result even half as accurate in colour gradation as thisv

My wife spoke to Robertwhyte this morning, they are expecting stock june 12th, which probably means my latest price match at JL will be thrown out, however if I keep hassling and I have 28 days from receipt to haggle with them so fingers crossed, however excited again after mikes good set so even if I don't I won't be that gutted :-)

Your comments also have you any thoughts about night time settings which is when the tv is too bright if left on daytime settings

Not sure really as I have not got the set yet, I would be tempted to set a cinema mode 2 with backlight around 4 and see how that is in the night, or possibly use the light sensor and see how you feel it adjusts, I think the sensors in the new sets are less aggressive than the ones on my 3 year old set, so maybe have a play.

Settings are a very personal thing and I tend to ignore most peoples settings and get something that I feel looks right and I am happy with. For instance I hate warm2 and always use warm 1 :-)

PS very excited after seeing your pics, it does seem as though sony have turned the corner after the trash from last year.
