I've had this puppy on gaming use for half a year, but decided to take it upstairs for the olympics. So, few thoughts and questions:
Good stuff:
- it's a computer with all kinds of stuff! I managed to set up VOD service and PVR with external USB (3.0) powered HDD
- With TVMobili, it connects automatically to my MAc and somehow found all pictures and videos. Don't know what happened after I installed TVMobili, but all was there, which is brilliant.
Annoying stuff (are there solutions?):
- the guide won't show program information as I surf through channels. Now, if there is a commercial break on I really can't tell which program is running and have to be accessing Info and Guide all the time. Really annoying, I guess in Korea they don't channel surf, but only watch TV when something worth watching is on.
- what's with all the useless information on screen: ' CI+ card, Successfully authenticated' every time I turn my TV on. And then 'Allshare device connected' every time I start my Mac. Also, the mute icon is always there when in mute. Yes, it's on mute, thank you and now go away!!
- Rovi has for some reason a limit on how many timed recordings I can make. Why on earth?! I would like to get all good stuff from Canal+ First HD to my HDD and watch them as I like, but noooo.
Problems and issues
- well, biggest problem is that about every fifth time the TV tuner somehow misses the signal, even with 100 on both signal quality and strength. This is really annoying, if PVR misses recording due to this 'feature'. Maybe the TV is too busy with all the announcements on CI+ modules and connected equipment...
- yes, it bleeds light visibly in three corners and lower left area. This is not nice with 2000€ TV. With good setting it is better, but still visible in darker scenes.
Conclusion
Good TV, but amazingly stupid features. Hopefully they will be fixed with future firmware. Every TV has its faults, and at the end of the day I do like my Samsung
