Well Martin Dawes returned my repaired TV on behalf of JL today... Brand new screen fitted.....
Left it on all day.... All seemed ok until this evening in a darkened room. I watched a Blu ray and the amount of clouding is ridiculous... It's everywhere... I want to just ask for the new model one but it seems they are just as bad.......

Beginning to wish I waited a few years till technology was better

Ask to use the John Lewis Happy returns policy and get either an exchange or refund if within 1 year. I did and they are doing this for my D8000

Flickering on patterns and Firmware 1024.1

1. Something that's annoyed me for ages - when watching a BD or HD TV, I get something like an interference pattern on checked patterns (things like a tweed suit or tartan). Think the technical term is a Moiré pattern.

Does anyone have any tricks to get rid if this, I'm thinking Sharpness is too high.

2. Anyone who has installed 1024.1 - did it change all your settings? If so, I suppose I'll have to go through and photo them all.

Any help much appreciated as usual.

ITV Player App downloaded today - and says it needs a firmware upgrade.

I'm on 1024 which seems to be the latest - but still says it needs a firmware upgrade.

Any ideas?

It did the same on my D7000. I think a lot, if not all, are experiencing it.

Does anyone else see this problem... black and white checked shirts or things like tennis nets, basically black and white squares are something the TV can't handle as it kind of blurs.

Called Samsung today and they believed ITV Player should be working on D8000 - they got me to reset Smart Hub - but still doesn't work.

However, YouTube will now no longer remember that it has been activated - and I have to 'activate' everytime I use it.

Any idea whatis causing this?

UE55D8005 pros and cons

I've had this puppy on gaming use for half a year, but decided to take it upstairs for the olympics. So, few thoughts and questions:

Good stuff:
- it's a computer with all kinds of stuff! I managed to set up VOD service and PVR with external USB (3.0) powered HDD

- With TVMobili, it connects automatically to my MAc and somehow found all pictures and videos. Don't know what happened after I installed TVMobili, but all was there, which is brilliant.

Annoying stuff (are there solutions?):
- the guide won't show program information as I surf through channels. Now, if there is a commercial break on I really can't tell which program is running and have to be accessing Info and Guide all the time. Really annoying, I guess in Korea they don't channel surf, but only watch TV when something worth watching is on.

- what's with all the useless information on screen: ' CI+ card, Successfully authenticated' every time I turn my TV on. And then 'Allshare device connected' every time I start my Mac. Also, the mute icon is always there when in mute. Yes, it's on mute, thank you and now go away!!

- Rovi has for some reason a limit on how many timed recordings I can make. Why on earth?! I would like to get all good stuff from Canal+ First HD to my HDD and watch them as I like, but noooo.

Problems and issues
- well, biggest problem is that about every fifth time the TV tuner somehow misses the signal, even with 100 on both signal quality and strength. This is really annoying, if PVR misses recording due to this 'feature'. Maybe the TV is too busy with all the announcements on CI+ modules and connected equipment...

- yes, it bleeds light visibly in three corners and lower left area. This is not nice with 2000€ TV. With good setting it is better, but still visible in darker scenes.

Conclusion
Good TV, but amazingly stupid features. Hopefully they will be fixed with future firmware. Every TV has its faults, and at the end of the day I do like my Samsung

Thanks for the update shout
I can see from the thread what the patch addresses but they really should think about going back to the old way when they would give more detail about what the new patch addresses.

IIRC I think you can use Winrar (or whatever unzipping equivalent on the mac) and extract the files from within that too.....its just a self extracting exe whatchamacallit

yup defo can just tried it. So a Mac alternative should work

USB should have in the root

T-GAP8DEUC/image/<approx 21 files>

Hi guys, hopefully someone can answer this question which has been bothering me.

I am using this TV in conjunction with an Onkyo 608 Amp

I am using the ARC on the HDMI and when watching a video via DLNA with a DD 5.1 audio track the tv can be switched via the tvs sound menu from PCM to DD to output the DD back through to the amp using ARC, this also works for DTS, except i choose DTS instead of DD ( obv )

Now the annoying part is that i need to keep going back into this menu!

So, if i've just chosen DD, then next time i go to play a DTS audio, it reverts to PCM, so i need to go back into the settings again! there is no auto setting to switch between DD and DTS

Now, i assume there is no fix for this? maybe i can contact samsung to add an auto feature, but i doubt they will bother lol

Now here is my question.

i do this as i believe the PCM option only outputs 2.1 ( i could be wrong here, i am unable to check as the amp OSD is not visible when using ARC ), the amp simply shows PCM fs: 48khz on the front display

Is the PCM outputting 5.1? or 2.1? at this point?

Does anyone know?

Thanks for reading

Jay

Exact same issue here, latest firmware, doesn't seem to be any pattern to the issue, the TV will remain on after a couple of attempts to switch it back on....
