Oh dear! I have an LG TV, Talk Talk is my ISP and guess what... Yes i can no longer use i-player because of the constant buffering. Came across this forum while looking for solution. Good to know its not me doing something wrong but disappointing to read so many others with same problem. Have been on to Talk Talk who sent me a new router today. Needless to say this has made no difference. My contract is now due to be renewed, in two minds as to what to do. Any ideas or is it just Talk Talk that has this problem?

Do not renew your contract-- you do not have to at all just ignor them and let it run on.
so far as lg tvs it is only talktalk that has the problem and they are blame lg.
Try your luck here bbc iplayer Discussion - Page 40 - The TalkTalk Members Forums
Also send an email to lg as they have fixed the plarer to work on talktalk with 2012 tvs
What model is your tv

Have you got a talktalk router, this issue seems very sparse across lots of devices with a lot of people who don't have any issues with it. I don't have a latest LG TV (LE5900) and am on talktalk with a netgear router (is the problem to do with MTU speeds and/or router settings that come from talktalk perhaps?) I don't have any issues with iplayer on any if my devices.
Are you actualy watching the iplayer on an lg 2011 tv with a talktalk conection

My router is a talktalk echolife hg520b I have tried differing MTU settings and other settings, on the talktalk forums there was a sticky for collection of info about the problem which was showing that a wide range of routers had the same problem.(talktalk pulled the sticky after collecting about 30 )
Dont forget that it did work perfect for 6 months untill feb/march.

I do not have a problem with other devices - only the LW550t
Last night we watched and hour long program with no problems - only to try again with another program with the buffering problems starting at about 14mins in
Watching in SD with wired connection with 7-9mbs speed

Not sure if my TV is 2011 or 2010 model? Iplayer works fine with no buffering using the (ripoff!) LG wifi dongle, my connection is only about 3.5Mb download as I live quite far from the exchange the only buffering I get is when the missus starts up Firefox with about 20 tabs open!!! Grrrr

Iplayer

Hello there
It may suprise all you LG and Talk Talk users but I also have the same problems with BT and a Sony Bravia TV purchased in Jan 2011. Worked fine until the start of the olympic games now plays for 10 seconds then buffers for minutes. So you are not alone.

Buffering

Exactly the same problem. Was working well using BT Broadband via Comtrend 200MbPS powerline adaptors to Humax Freesat then to Sony Bravia via HDMI cable. Now takes a long time to load and starts to buffer repeatedly at approx. 5-10 second intervals after about 3 minutes. If I use Wifi access via netbook to the same BT Broadband source and connect to Bravia via same HDMI cable plays really well . Download speed is approx. 6 MbPS

Bit late with my reply i'm not on talk talk. On another ISP called smarter broadband from chess telecom. Iplayer is now a complete waste of time. Also Acetrax is pointless works for 2-3mins then buffers consistently every 20-30 seconds. Going to get on to acetrax for a refund! Getting 6-7 Mbps on the speed test on the iPad wirelessly. My tv is hard wired into my home network. The I player was great no either watch it on the iPad or on the very very poor quality on the humax freesat box. I wonder if LG give any kind of **** about these issues.

Tweeted Lgbloguk told me to call customer services, after asking if i had talk talk as ISP? The girl on customers services was adamant that it was an ISP speed issue! She says they recommend 8mbps as minimum! (probably rules out half the country) She said she would raise it with the tech people and get back to me. I won't hold my breath!

While you're waiting for her to get back to you (and we both know how long that'll take), run BBC's own speed test for iPlayer.

If you're in the mood for a head-banging exercise, get back to her and point out;
  • That, from the above speed test, streaming speeds above 1.5mbps are fine for SD media. (God knows where she gets 8mbps from.)
  • If the problem is with TalkTalk, how come Smart TVs from most other manufacturers work fine on TT (I believe the problem is also present with some SONY devices)? I've demonstrated this using a Samsung Smart TV and posted the results on YouTube (best viewed in full-screen mode).
It shows the same BBC iPlayer program being streamed to my LG TV above my son's Samsumg over a not very fast TT line. You can see the program being streamed to the Samsung without a hitch while the LG starts buffering after a few minutes.
I've checked the legal positions on this with my local OFT. Interestingly they tell me that, regardless on the product being out of warranty, the purchaser has a case against the retailer if the product fails to live up to the advertising at the time of purchase. The purchaser is entitled to a) a replacement, b) repair or c) a partial refund taking into account the usage they have had from the product.

I don't really want to go down this route as I just know it'll be a load of hassle.
Any else reading this got any views on what to do next????

I have exactly the same problem and i am on Vrgin, f i try to watch anything through the tipo box it will play for around 5-10 minutes then start buffering, and most times it will start back at the beginning. I have been trying to watch Murder: Joint Enterprise and keep checking how long has played so when it buffers and goes back to the beginning i can try and fast forward to close to where i have watched up to.

If i watch it through my lap top it plays fine with no buffering, i done the bbc speed test and everyyhing came up in the limits.

By the way my tv is a Panasonic Viera link and my ISP is Virgin Media 20mb download speed. So I dont beleive the problem is with the TV's.

it's been 7 months now
i can't believe LG have let it go on this long without saying what the problem is
they blame talktalk but will not say why
talktalk think LG are releasing firmware updates to fix the problem as stated on the LG blog

we are just the paying customs who should have bought a samsung

Agreed. I can't believe that after 7 months LG still don't know what the problem is, especially as BBC iPlayer streamed fine to LG NetCast TVs over TT lines untill early in the year.

They just don't give a damn about their customers.

LG obviously want everyone to upgrade to the new version of their smart tv! Come on LG get this fixed it is not an ISP fault it is something to do with the TV's software!

LG Electronics From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As of early 2012, British LG SmartTV users using TalkTalk as in ISP had had significant service issues with the BBC iPlayer. LG have made no official comment, while the BBC have said that they are aware of the issue and are investigating.

LG have made no official comment thats 7 months and still no one from LG knows whats wrong

alan suger would have fired someone by now.

Sorted. Hurray for orange

I have an lg smart tv and talktalk as an isp. Constant buffering after 5 mins viewing, since february 2012. Switched to orange isp & became active today. Been watching for last couple of hours & problems have gone away. Runs perfectly

After a little searching my ISP "smarter broadband" from Chess telecom could well be a rebadged talk talk offer! I will speak to my account manager from chess tomorrow and confirm.

Spoke to chess and they provide a service which is called opal. I have asked them to upgrade my service which they say will take 10 days. I will test the iplayer and acetrax service then and see if does make a difference.

Hi,

Iv'e got the 47LW650T current software ver 05.12.05 manufactured July 2011 , been suffering with the iplayer buffering after a few minutes of viewing. I'm with TalkTalk and got a D-Link DSL2640R router. Iv'e changed the routers MTU setting to 1500 was set to 1492 been watching Dragons Den on iplayer for 30 mins with no buffering.

Can somebody please test and see if the setting makes a difference? Please remember your'e routers MTU setting before you change it so you can put it back to how it was if need be.

Cheers
Chimaera

I tried but was unable to get my D-Link DSL-2780 router from TalkTalk to accept a MTU size of 1500 (from 1492). On applying the change to 1500 the router comes back with a setting of 1495. I was unable to access the internet at all with this setting so have, after a bit hassle, set the value back to 1492.

want to test your mtu run cmd in win7and type
mtu netsh interface ipv4 set subinterface
should give you your mtu, now type
ping google.com -f -l 1472
you should see the packet loss from the return and the results, you need 4 for 4 anything else you have to turn down the mtu till you get 4 for 4.
setting it is netsh interface ipv4 set subinterface "Local Area Connection" mtu=1490 store=persistent and keep going down in 10`s till its gives you 4 for 4 then go up in 1`s till it fails again back down 1, if 1462 is successful, then 1490 is your MTU limit. you must add 28 for over heads.

I'm on Windows XP and couldn't follow your instructions. No problem as I'm not really interested in changing the MTU size as I don't believe it's the cause of the buffering problem.

I have tried different MTU settings weeks ago - made no difference.
Over on the talktalk forum there is a new thread started with some interesting info
Talktalk is the iplayer/lovefilm buffering cause - The TalkTalk Members Forums

So my experience leads me to believe that it is and ISP problem and not a LG issue, although I am sure LG could have issued a firmware fix by now. My ISP upgraded my service from their budget offering.
