Well after a while I have got my PS3 and screen working again, for now. I must have tried everything! what worked I may never know - but I had the equipment all unplugged for 24 hours and when I hooked it all up again the PS3 beep button trick suddenly worked (I had tried it maybe 10 times the day before!).

So try the unplug for a long period trick I guess

Who knows why! but its a pain to think ot may happen again. I am going to get a few cheapo brand new version HDMI cables, maybe its an info overload for the 3D extra info between the equipment with older HDMI cables? (all my guess work haha).

Cannot wait to test the screen out with films tonight in the black dark.

Inded! I have been looking and prices are still high. I found the newest 250 version Sony glasses for £65 but even thats not cheap. Cannot find packs anymore like a few months ago when it was two pairs and lots of 3D blu rays for fair prices.

The new glasses come out very soon and may well be an improvement on the current ones. Mind you they will be not cheap, and maybe the older 250 model glasses will drop in price.

Still anyone spotting a deal speak up please

Really stupid question but how do you change the picture mode to cinema etc? I can only see standard, vivid and custom.

Very pleased. It's got lovely colour, deep blacks and sharp detail, with only a couple of minor foibles.

Yup gotta agree its a bloody quality screen I have. I watched my first film on it last night (full film that is). The Warriors Way, and it looked amazing and not onve did I see any problem at all. Colours, contrast and black blacks - as good as I havs seen on a screen. No clouding like my old set, no back lighf uneven lighting and really cannot find a single flaw. I am one picky bugger as well.

So far I cannot fault it in use.

Not yet tried them yet, backlight down to 1 is a surprise though. I'm fairly close to your old settings how are you finding these?

One thing I can't get rid of though is that it wants to turn off and asks me to press any button to keep the set on, haven't set it to do it and can't find where to turn it off. Any ideas???

I am finding backlight 1 plenty bright for my room, and it was even bright enough to watch Top Gear with bright light in the room and reflections.

Only setting i can thing of is Press Home on the remote then System settings again press ok on the remote then look for Eco, press ok, all in this list i have off. Try going into presence sensor and turning that off.

Hope this helps.

Yep, that's the Idle TV standby in the eco settings. Why Sony ship TVs with a Idle default of 4 hours is beyond me. If we want to turn our sets off, we'll do it ourselves thanks very much.

Hi guys got my 46 inch over the weekend and for the most part I'm very pleased with it, slight banding but trying to ignore it.

Having trouble finding a solution for when I'm watching football tho, every time the ball is kicked long it turns into a blur. Anyone know what I should have on or off to solve this?

Cheers

hi
for watching football what setting do you have motionflow set to?? ive found best to have it set to clear all other goodies set to off ie edge enhancment off, sharpness down, etc best thing is record a football game and then play around with the settings that way your all set when the big game comes
cheers sean

As Sean said you could try motion Flow on Clear.

Could give my settings above a try, if to dull raise the backlight a click. Remember though that some things are meant to look dull peoples faces are not supposed to glow.

I haven't had any blur issues, what sources is this from ie built in freeview or external Sky box etc

Also ironically while motion flow is good it can cause artifacts and double imagining, and as i don't watch football so cant really comment personally, it could cause double imaging of the ball.

Ok here is the question i put to Mark Hodgkinson (Avforum reviewer) a few weeks back with regards the HX923, the top of the line model but same principle.

Me-

Quote:
Just wondered, when you see glitches with the Frame Interpolation, do you mean odd pauses during pace changes etc or tearing/blocking?
Mark-

Quote:
Yeah, occasional blocking, tearing and objects doubling/tripling. Certainly nothing drastic and no soap opera effect but I'd rather put up with a bit of blur than random artefacting. Changes of pace almost always play havoc with MCFI systems, some action replays can be quite laughable!
Hence why now i have it switched off and to be honest motion looks just as good.

You will always get Blur around the ball when it's kicked especially when its panning..most tv's struggle with football.

sky hd box needs to be set to 720p and not 1080i most people think 1080i must be better as its a higher number NOT the case, you want progressive scan not interlaced............cheers sean

yes the tv will deinterlace the signal but at a slight cost to the performance of the signal, but now you you are asking the tv work with two 540 (1080i) signals and covert them some tv's convert well others wont. either way 1080i is still two 540 signals interlaced.
hence 720p is better than two 540 (1080i)
cheers sean

1080i is better.

If you set the Sky box to 720p the Sky box will have to scale the incoming image down, when the tv receives the image it will then have to rescale it to fit the screen.

Its your choice but honestly 1080i is better as that is what the sky box is getting anyway so all that happens if you set the sky box to 720p is its scaling the interlaced image itself, and doing a worse job than the Sony, it cant magic 720p out of the air.

The Sky box is receiving an interlaced image over the air, so its better to let the tv do the scaling rather than the Sky box and the tv. To much scaling of the same image is not great.

the skyhd box is native 720p they say its 1080i but in real world its not, it will output 1080i max, also interlaced can never be better than progressive its a fact.
here is another tip
if the tv max out is p ie 1080p always match it with the same ie 720p 1080p never mix progressive and interlaced
hence the sky box is better on 720p
cheers sean
