So good i spent £50 on the 3d bluray version lol! To be honest though the 3d bluray has a little bit more detail etc but the normal sbs version is more than good enough to show off the tv!

The DSE is a far bigger issue than banding. Banding is very visible on panning shots with a single colour background but DSE appears even in almost still video on light colours.

I know exactly what you mean about all the other manufacturers and the associated problems since it took me weeks to settle on this one. For what it's worth I don't so much think the problems we are experiencing on this set are fixable, more likely a side-effect of the technology. The only other set I remotely like is the Samsung 59D8000 (plasma).

I also have a problem with my Panasonic DMP-BDT110 player as the sound being output directly to my AVR via optical is ahead of the video. And the audio delay adjustment on the player doesn't apply to the optical, it only applies to HDMI audio. I can't catch a break.

I have been all round comet, currys and richer sounds this week to demo just about every tv going and honestly every tv i viewed had it's own faults! samsung led's had even worse light bleed problems than any of the lw550's that i have had, sony's 3d system is headachetastic and has mojor crosstalk issues (not to mention rear mounted hdmi sockets on an led tv!), panasonic gt30 which everyone raves about looked crappy (motion was nice though) and i hate the way plasmas create an image and the horrible noise on screen, toshiba passive was nice but still had banding and no 2d-3d conversion, phillips just looked washed out and awful blacks... etc etc etc... I seriously did not find one tv that i would of been happy to exchange for my 47lw550...

Could not agree more, I've spent 1000s on top of the range tvs, and my lw650 is far from perfect, a little banding and dse issue when watching footie. But you know what, 3d is brilliant, 360/ps3 look fantastic, I feel no lag when gaming, have hardly any light bleed and that's with local dimming off

All in all I'm just happy with what I have, knowing I've spent far more money and got worse in return, there is no perfect tv. Maybe I've just give up looking for the holy grail that is the perfect tv.

Still loving my 55 inch! Just wondering, i'm not sure if I imagining things but I swear I'm seeing more crosstalk here and there than my 47w650, even if I sit at perfect eye level.
Anyone else seeing crosstalk? If so any settings to minimise it?

I tend to see more cross talk on some SBS material then Blu Ray, but that could be my eyesight.

I bought this set over the Panny GT30 and i definatly prefer it i think, the only issues i have, i have highlighted over on the calibration settings thread if anyone can help.

But my main thirst for help is trying to get the best pic for freeview hd and for my boxee box as im sure the picture can improve, but ive fiddled with the settings so much (total noob btw), i was hoping there was some definitve best settings out there?

And also can anybody tell me how to save two seperate picture settings for 2d and 3d?

Hi all,

I am looking at getting the 42LW550T (would love the 47 or 55 but my lounge just isn't big enough).

I have gone through all the threads and now have a headache! Haha. I was just wondering if someone could give me any definitive answers on a few Q's as there seems to be a lot of going back and forth from people. I have Sky+HD and will be using a PS3 for gaming (I know about the lag but i'm not hardcore so don;t think it will bother me.)

1. If I got one of these TVs which is the best firmware to have on it? some of the updates seem to fix problems but also cause more!
2. I don't get what the banding issue is. I am going to visit comet to see the set in person and look for banding but can anyone explain to me what I am looking for with banding/dse?
3. I have read that when watching 3D your head needs to be pretty much level with the centre of the set. I have my bracket wall mounted on my current TV and will be using the same for the new TV. If i have the angle of the bracket pointing down so that i am effectively looking at the centre will that still be OK with the 3D?

Many thanks in advance for any help.
Steve

Hi!

I'll see if I can help you!

1: I am on the latest firmware (05.10.01) and there's no issues, gaming is fantastic and I've been winning on MW3

2:banding is where you can see dark vertical lines. Only usually when the camera's panning over a scene like blue sky or a football field. It's quite hard to notice and you have to kind of look at the picture as a whole to see it and not focus on one specific part. I got lucky and my TV has no banding that I can see.

3: yes I've got the same thing as you. I sit slightly below the tv so when I do view it from that angle a small amount of crosstalk appears. But I'm going to buy a wall mount and tilt it down slightly so that will be fine.

Hope this helped!

So picked up my 42 inch550t on friday.been fiddling and tweaking the picture here and there. Must be one of the lucky ones regarding banding as i cant see any. Dse is an issue though. Seems really bad on all standard def materiał, but liveable on a hd source(currently only sky hd).motion handlings not great either but reckon i may not have things set to the optimum yet. Would really appreciate any advice on this. Tried the 3d app and watched a couple short films streamed over net. Take it this isnt as good as the 3d resolution gets? Was pretty poor and hope it was just a file compression issue for streaming? Got my hdmi lead(1.4) going from sky box info the arc hdmi on telly.is this ok?
Cheers from a noob hehe

Noob question: What is DSE?

2nd question: Do you sometimes have lag in 1080p or 720p MKW's from PC?
My first monitor is connected trough DVI-VGA and I have extended desktop to LW5500 trough HDMI 1.3 cable. When I play the movie on the PC monitor there is no lag and on the 2nd monitor( TV) there are moments when the movie plays like in low FPS/frame skip for 5-10 seconds.

Dse is dirty screen effect. Its smear on the screen during a fast panning shot usually.

Try HDMI3, update firmware, use game mode.

This is what I did and my 55" is perfect for lag. Hope this helps

I've posted my picture settings on page one, for motion i'm currently using trmotion with user settings of de-judder 3 and de-blur 10 and find moion in both sd and hd are much improved with virtually zero artifacts etc... oh and the 3d app is rubbish quality compared to sky3d and especially 3d bluray!

To change 3D settings you have to be watching something in 3D. Then press q.menu button and go to set video. That setting will then be saved for 3D viewing

2d and 3d settings are totally independant of each other so edit the 2d picture mode then switch to 3d mode and edit again and both will save..

tbh i've got used to it being a bit darker now, main reason for it being like that is to pretty much eliminate the halo effect caused by led backlighting if there is detail on a black background.

Thanks for that, didnt know.

So just set 2d then click 2d>3d button? then set again? or you have to be watching actual 3d like a bluray or something?

Im starting to lean towards sending this TV back. Not sure whether to get a refund or try a replacement.

Im over the moon with the set apart from the banding. Everything else is superb and most of the time I'm really happy with the TV. Ive got no input lag, no light bleed and I think the picture is superb. But when I watch football or something else where the banding starts to appear I get a sinking feeling and end up really disappointed.

Might wait until after this weekend as there is a couple of 3D football matches on. Will see how much the banding interferes with my 3D viewing before deciding for sure.

'Tis a shame.

banding, once spotted can never be unseen you may be able to live with it but sadly i feel youll never be happy, maybe an exchange and try that) My brothers 650 as hardly any banding yet mine does, which sort of winds me up

I have a very similar dilemma. I am happy 90% of the time and when the PQ is great the TV is outstanding indeed. However, DSE/banding ruins an almost perfect set.

A dilemma, indeed.

I set up my GFs Dad's 650t and that has no banding....which makes me wonder if a replacement might be worth it. But at the same time I dont want to risk getting a worse example.

Decisions, decisions.

I would go for an exchange, I had a 47" 650t with bleeding and a bit of banding. I got a refund and purchased a 55" 550t and there's no banding and negligible bleed

On a side note motion is actually better on the 550 for me as on the 650 even though lowest setting seemed too processed.
