It was asked on another thread whether the OLED EM960 will be released earlier than July 2012.

I am watching this space too! Just when you know anything about the price be gentle and say it in a nice way because I am afraid my wallet is going to hear it and flee for refuge.

Or wait to see if its true because many rumors have started to see themselves self fullfill and others not. Rumor or not is way way way way(a long way indeed) out of my budget so any discussion for me is out of pure technological interest. Up to 3000 pounds I would go for an OLED therefore I would have to wait for a couple of years or maybe the Samsung OLED which is rumored to be almost half the price of the LG.

I think Samsung are putting there plans for OLED mass produced OLED sets on hold due to some tech issues.
There tech is different to the one used by LG, and Samsungs problem is blue cells of there OLED screens age quite quickly. They can get round this by using enlarged blue cells but the counter effect is cost Vs production+quality control imo.
Some users of there Super OLED screens found on the PS Vita and Galaxy S2 have found that though the blacks should be pure black there is a glow to them. Why Samsungs screens are doing this Ive yet to read about but the use of filters the way LG do things should result in pure blacks.

LG's WOLED system seems to be more efficient and cheaper to produce , thats why they've spent all this money buying the technology from Kodak. The problem is that LG's prices are out of control so I expect the same to happen for the EM960 therefore eliminating this as an option for me. On the other side maybe their production will increase gradually and prices will come down but not for the next 2-3 years so whoever brings first an OLED closer to my budget will take my money. Now of course I wouldn't want the blue subpixel to start acting out within 2-3 years so I expect that Samsung will solve this problem before going out in the market. I think I am a long way from an OLED TV.

My gut feeling is that by the time Samsung produce there oled screen LG would already have secured most of the market.

I for see the end of LG making plasma tvs and mass producing oled screens in the next 5years. I also think we will start to see bigger consumer sizes think 80 inches.

Speaking of Samsung and OLED has anybody read this:

Samsung's OLED technology stolen, sold to rival

...from flatpanelshd.com

If its true then we might have a huge legal battle on our hands before we see any OLEDs on the market. It sounds so like an April Fool's Day joke but its not.

With the two types of oled screen being different in terms of tech used i think production would go as planned.
If LG released a very similar oled screen to Samsung then i would have said oled wouldn't happen for years.

Why would LG want the SS technology when they have the already easier to mass produce WOLED which made Samsung look a bit sheepish at CES this year....
I'm fed up with seeing Samsungs arrogant apple wannabe attitude and would love to see LG win the OLED race for a change. It sounds like a major case of sour grapes to me!?....

Well we really don't know what was stolen, neither from whom. It may be something different than how the organic pixels are made of (white or rgb subpixels). Something that both technologies use maybe a color filter or something that we consumers don't even know that it exists, as this technology is so new. So until i see one out in the market from either company I would keep my ears out for any news of legal battles between the two. I mean companies have done it for less in order to delay the launch of rival products so it may as well be that Samsung are doing it to delay the LG's OLED untill they solve their problems with the blue subpixel and then come out at the same time as LG.

From the other side it could just be rumors that the media have inflated in order to have something to print.

By the way a European LG rep told me that the price in euros is expected to be somewhere in the region of 10-11000 euros which is the price of a car. I hope he is wrong.

My guess on prices is around 5k. If Samsung some how release there screens which are rumored to be around 3k, i predict LG will do the same and take a hit on profits.

I have a feeling in my water that Samsung may not be ready with their OLED. So it may be that LG will have a clear run, and who knows what they will charge?

Of course, in the current financial situation, whether they will sell enough of them will depend on the price.

So will that mean there will be some type of cable to connect the two? As I remember the CES displays were mounted on a pole with no base in sight!

I'm following! Just sold my 65VT30 by Panasonic so I'm in the market again.

I hope the price we'll not be 10.000 euro as someone said earlier, I'm more into 5000/7000 range.

Actually 8000 euros was the price that was unofficially quoted to me by a Korean LG representative that I happened to see in a Mediamarkt. He said 8000 euros to begin with and then see how it goes from there depending on the demand. Basically if they sell at 8000 euros they will not be going lower.

I would assume so. Like a separate box.
Maybe at ces they hid the media box out of sight and run a cable up the stand? We really will be hanging these sets from our walls with blue tack lol.

Now let's wait if the oled tv will make it to market. The korean police have invaded the LG office because of suspected theft of oled technology.
