I sent the first one back with a week because of a bent screen, and because the set was emitting a high pitched whistle/whine.

Now, about a month later, the second set (PQ OK) has also starting whistling/whining.

Is this a common experience. Loud enough to be heard over dialogue. Off when set shuts off, but otherwise on (i.e source independent).

I'd be a bit careful with that. It is from a marketplace trader with zero feedback and it is impossibly cheap - £400 cheaper than the next best!

There is no return or refund info - amazon offer some protection when buying from market traders but it may be grey market in which case Samsung UK will not cover the warranty! Only 12 products for sale mainly used - that says it all ....

Anybody know how to remove (reset) the satellite antenna channel list so that all the channels are wiped - without reseting the tv?

It says at the beginning it will wipe all channels - but unless you let it run to the end it doesn't and by the end its added them back again.

I bought a 46" d8000 today and was under the impression it would be able to play mkv files from my SMB network shares (am running freenas), however although th tv is responding to ping I do not know how to achieve this. I run AllShare and have enabled Media but no devices or anything appear there. Is I possible to do, if so, how? I was hoping I'd be able to lose my dedicated network media player through this.

JL do not price match if they or the other retailer are out of stock, if given a price match lasts 28 days. The last delivery of the 55" lasted less than a day so you may find it logistically difficult to achieve a price match. The current JL price of £1900 is not bad but it does look like stock is thinning out, hard to know when they will be discontinued by JL as they may not want the older model around taking sales from the new ranges. You may find Richer Sounds will take the the last of the stock as end of ranges is their thing!

Well, my UE55D8000 arrived yesterday from John Lewis. I only managed about an hour with it last night but I am a little disappointed, so far.

The biggest concern is what, I think, is known as 'torchlighting' in all four corners. I was watching in a darkened room and this was clearly prevalent whenever a dark screen was shown. I was expecting some of these 'features' but was hoping that they would be barely noticeable. It has been said many times before I am sure but you do not expect this of a £2K telly. It was slightly better after I turned the back light down but was still pretty obvious.

Next I noticed some juddering when watching Standard Def football. This was very off putting but I am hoping that this can be improved after some tweaking.

HD stuff I thought looked great. I watched a bit of Question of sport on BBC1 HD and after I turned the colour and contrast down to stop Sue looking quite so orange, the image was really good. You could actually see the make up on the contestants faces. SD stuff was mixed... ESPN was awful, compared with ESPN HD which was very good.

I had a quick look at the 3D stuff on the Smart App thingy. Some was rubbish, others, like the snowboarding one were ok. The thing I am looking forward to the most is the golf in 3D (sad I know).

So, it's very early days but I am already thinking of returning the TV because of the torchlighting. Is it possible to get a panel where this problem is only minor?

I have that but can only see it on the screen when it starts up. Try turning dynamic contrast on.

Could you take a photo of it with a film on? Id be interested to see how bad it is?

Yeah pics please, and it is possible where lightbleed is minor minds is just now, though im starting to see it in an area i never saw it before, and also it seems banding is becoming bad for me where before it was only seen on football, any way to reduce banding anyone? or is the only way to put a rifle to samsung's heads and demand an ES8000?

Ok, I'll try and get some photos later this evening. Another thing I forgot to mention is that I was pleased with the lag levels whilst gaming in game mode. I had a quick game of Pro Evo on the XBOX and I didn't notice any lag, which could be because the lag levels on my older 40" Sammy are similar.

I caved in - bought one of these bad boys the 46' inch variety should arrive saturday they such a good price these days. Was going to get the ES8000 but the money i saved i can take the family on holiday now !!!

I run freeNas 8 and will be trying this at the weekend when i get my D8000 it shall be interesting to see if it works

I had another play last night and, although the torch lighting is very evident when negotiating round the smart apps etc, it does not seem that bad on films, if you are sitting exactly square on to the telly. Sitting slightly to the side they become apparent again.

What i did notice last night was if you look down at the lower bezel at about 45 degrees, there is a strip of clearly visible light for about 6 to 8 inches. (see attachment... sorry for blurry rubbish pic!). This only shows at the bottom of the panel and the other 3 sides are fine. You cannot see this if you look directly in front of the screen but this surely cannot be right?

I should be excited like a kid a Christmas over this telly but I have this constant nagging that I have bought the wrong TV.

That's normal as far as I'm concerned, mine has that. you don't watch TV from that angle so it's probably not really a problem?
In fact (for me anyway) I find backlight bleed on dark backgrounds normal for LED tvs as well.

Unfortunately my D7000 has backlight bleed on bright normal viewing scenes which seems unacceptable to me. See picture



Im getting the screen replaced. But yeah every edge lit LED tv has some bleed on dark backgrounds in my experience.

Haha, well I've noticed it on mine after reading your post and it has never bothered me. It's all opinion really, I personally would call it normal because it doesn't effect viewing at all. But I can understand just knowing its there to bug you.
All I know is if i stand right close to the tv and look down I can see the same LEDs shining through.

Got this aswell in places though its nothing to worry about as your not looking diagonal at the tv

Yeah, and that's actually what it looks like! The camera hasn't exaggerated it at all. problem is there no replacement stock available anymore, either I get a refund or a repair visit from samsung. But as I really like the TV in general I've opted for the 'at home repair' (even though I've had the TV less than a week).

I hope this guy who turns up knows what he's doing and doesn't mess up by brand new TV even more

I had an engineer in from a Samsung Premier service center to change my panel. He seemed pretty clued up.

It was a screen/panel replacement. The whole screen as you see it, including the bezel is changed. It comes as one unit.

Clouding was my main issue.

Yeah what your needing is the whole new panel so hope he brings that with him or your and will need to wait longer
