Hi Lion

What was the code? I have just received mine about 2 hours ago but its not open yet as the wall bracket arrives tomorrow. I paid £2700.10 for mine with the Curry;s 10% offer but I can always have them take it back if there is a code I should have used!!! £500 is well worth the effort!!!

Hi Lion,

Thats brilliant and I just tried it and it worked perfectly. Thank you and now I just have to pop to Curry's and see if they will shortcircuit taking this one back and delivering it again by knocking the money off. I have 21 days and today is the first day Lol!
On the 5 year warranty it wasn't available at the Swansea store except as a £200 option so I left it. I haven't seen any other good ones yet.
Just off to Currys' and I'll post what happens later. Thanks again that is just great

That price is really good! I'm glad I've cancelled mine @ £2550 with Currys. Hopefully by the time my lounge is ready, it'll be £2000!

Cant wait to hear your reviews, lads!

Hi Lion,
Well they were great and refunded me the difference immediately by filling the forms in so that it looked like i returned it and took it back home one after the other which makes it £2199 for a 70" Sharp 836! Wow that is a good price. Thank you Lion I think I owe you a beer or two for that. the best thing is that the box is still in the living room and tomorrow I will put it up after the guy picks up my Pioneer Kuro 6080d.

I'll try the 835 settings in it tomorrow although that is an edge lit design so no guarantees it will be right. I'll try it and report what I get!

Well done Angus. I have been very impressed with it in the shop after numerous visits so i think we have a good chance of being very happy with them. Especially at that price

Whoa!

Thanks for the heads up - TV being delivered on Sunday at the old price, so will have to see if they can do a simple discount or I'll have to cancel and re-order.

Thanks Lion.

@Keith123 - did they just accept the same code instore?

Hi Crazyp
I just went into the store and said that my 836 had arrived one hour ago and I had just noticed TV1500. They immediately went to the till with my receipt and cancelled my current order as if I had taken it back to the store (to heavy for that) and redid my order with the new price and the same purchase price. Took 10 minutes and they were no problem at all! Best paid 10 minutes that I've ever had. They had no real choice as you have 21 days to return the TV so its worse for them if you send it back and order a new one. Its now on the wall and I'm going to try the 835 calibrations settings on it and see what I get!!

mine was delivered at just gone 4pm yesterday.
it's a 2 man job unpacking the beast and getting it in position!
I tuned freeview in and the hd channels looked great.
then it was time for tea and going out etc...
so, at 11.30pm I connected my PS3 up and shoved avatar on for a few minutes before bed,
only in 2d as I haven't got any glasses yet,
WOW !!!!!
even with no settings altered it looked fabulous,
and suddenly it was 1am
I had to drag myself away from it, the quality of the picture at this size is just incredible, I can't wait to get some glasses and try the 3d out.
The owners manual comes on a usb stick and I haven't looked at that yet,
the booklet that comes in the box is just instructions to get the stand on and the freeview tuned in.
However I have a 40 inch sharp quatron 2d tv so I'm used to the remote control layout and on first glance the on screen menu on this 70 inch looks the same, but no doubt there will be extra stuff to discover today.
I'm up at 6am looking forward to a day of playing with my new toy.
Not had enough sleep so I'm sure I'll be worn out by this afternoon !
first thing is to try and find somewhere to store the box it came in.
no... first thing is to hunt down some glasses for the 3D, amazon seem to have them for £49 a pair, (I hope they are the right ones.), everywhere else they seem to cost a lot more.

£2199.20 is a really good price for this. I bet you're having a right hoot today Lion If possible, let us know what the black levels are like, and any clouding etc. Im assuming you'll have to wait til late evening with drawn curtains etc.

Difference between this model and LC70LE836E 70inch

Hi folks,

Looks like a good deal esp with the 1500 code.

However, I thought the Quattron 836E was the better model as its full LED etc?

Is it worth waiting for a good price on the 836 over the 835?

Cheers

Hi,
the 835 is the European version and the 735 is the American version of the 836 which is the English version of the same tv.

Im looking to upgrade my projector and am considering getting a large screen LCD TV instead and was wondering if anyone has compared this Sharp to the Panasonic AT5000?

Are there any benefits either way? I presume the Sharp would be better for 3D being that it should have a brighter picture

Any thoughts appreciated

Just a quick update for me - they weren't able to do anything fancy with my order - just a simple cancel then re-order. Arriving next Sunday. Thanks again Lion (and AVF) - you're owed a couple of pints if you're ever in Berkshire...

I'm very pleased so far with mine,
the black levels seem really good to me, I've noticed that sets that do black well seem to give lush colours.
I'm still using the pre set modes as the picture is so good,
no doubt I'll delve into the settings at some point but don't feel the need to fiddle with them yet.
got a pc attached now so I'm writing this post at 70 inches!
amazon should be delivering my 3D glasses today so I'm hanging around waiting to hear the door bell.
the beauty of a huge tv like this over my projector is I can still use it in the day with the curtains open so my time as a pseudo vampire is over!

Out of interest Lion which projector did you used to have? do you ever miss it?

I have an Optoma H56 which I've had since new prob getting on for 8 years ago now and just feel the flat screens have come on so much that the sharp would be a better bet than another projector

also are the pixels visible from a couple of meters

Sorry for all the questions

I've got an optoma hd65n projector with the separate 3DXL 3D box.
I've been sitting about 2 meters away from the 70" sharp this afternoon and it just looks a great picture to me, no visible pixels.

My 3D glasses arrived at lunchtime and had to be charged for 90 minutes before use,
3D was very good, nice and bright and I found no need to use the 3D brightness facility, very happy so far!

Lion, thank you so much for coming on here to share your thoughts. Hearing about great black levels is music to my ears. I too believe black levels are a good guide to visual quality.

Have you noticed any dark corners when displaying white? Also, any clouding on solid black? Before someone claims that solid colours aren't a real world issue - they are for me

Many thanks
Muzaka

when the screen is on but receiving no signal there is light in the corners on the black, but once a signal is there and it's a black screen it is totally black,
like where you get the credits at the end of a movie against a black background, it is black with no clouding.
and any dark scenes there is no light bleed/clouding.
hope that makes sense.
I watched the latest ghost rider movie last night which had a lot of black in it,
it looked great, and as my glasses had arrived I watched it in 3D,
didn't see any crosstalk.
and as for white I watched antartica on HD-DVD, (remember them ? lol), and the snow didn't seem to have any dark parts in the corners when they showed an iceberg etc.

That's strange that. Sounds like local dimming behaviour (masks any backlight non-uniformity by turning off light in areas).

That's really good to hear. I hate that!

I just ordered on on finance for a good price then noticed this thread about curries doing them on sale. from what i have been looking at the stats between the 2 are identical, the only difference is the 838 comes with a dongle? they both backlit led etc, from their spec sheets there is no difference? any help would be much appreciated

741 doesn't have Quattron. The 741 is edge-lit and is more susceptible to clouding. The black levels are not as good as the 836 too. Currys sell both models for the same price, which is nuts!
