I found it with acceptable price at two store:

Toshiba 46TL868 46inch 3D LED Television - Toshiba - Crampton & Moore (TV) Ltd

Toshiba 46TL868B, 46 Inch 3d LED Televisions, 3d LED Televisions, 3d Televisions, Televisions

In the Crampton & Moore it's Ł529.99 and in the PRCDirect it is Ł549.
I saw lots of you bought this tv with the 5 year warranty promotioned by Toshiba. Some weeks ago I checked this promotion and sad it was expired end of March, now I checked it again - maybe - and there is a new promotion from 1st April to 30th April.

https://www.rewardpromotions.com/fiv...ty/default.asp

The only problem is that when I try the tosh webpage, there are only two retailer (Euronics and Other), when I choose the Euronics there are a lot of model including this, but on the Euroncs webpage this tv is not available. If I choose 'other' there are only four model excluding this.

In the PRCDirect store it's still advertised with 5year warranty, but I don't know this warranty is there own or the tosh's.

When you buy your tv and after that you register them on the tosh weppage, what were the retailers there?

THX
i have the 40 tl868 when i did my extended warranty on the web it did not have any retailers names but mine was done before march perhaps this was why email the retailers they will tell you if its tosh or there own warranty hth

Good luck with that, they don't even know what causes the fault

How long should you realistically have to wait for a manufacturer to replace/repair/refund when a fault is found? I've been living with the fault since start of December and in my 2nd set from the retailer

You're within your rights to get a refund, retailers try all sorts to get out of refunding/replacing faulty products but it is their responsibility and once they figure out you know your rights they stop telling flat out lies.

As for me, I've not heard anything from Toshiba, i brought the set from currys and i'm assuming all their sets will be from what appears to be a bad batch. If you knew my tele woes in the past you might understand my reluctant's to get into all this changing sets etc again. It took 3 Sony's to get one that worked, 5 Panasonic's and 6 Samsung's with my previous purchases!. I wish i was just picky but i really don't see why i should have to put up with any fault in a new product so i've always fought my corner to get a fully working TV. I'm seriously tired of it now though and was hoping this would be a one time only set for me.

After 28 days, but within 1st year....is it the manufacturer that the liability lies with? The online retailer weren't having any of it, despite them having a record of both my sets being faulty in the first weeks, stating I'm now outside 28 days.

No, that's one of the things retailers say to get out of refunding. In the UK it is the retailers responsibly, they must sell you a product that is "fit for purpose" and you are protected by this for up to 6 years in some cases. In any case, you have given them the chance to replace the product and it didn't fix the fault, they can't repair the product because they don't know what's wrong so you have the law fully on your side. Read your Statutory rights on this, know them and spout a few to the retailer and they will soon buckle.

Read this as it explains a few things simply, also other helpful advice on there http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/sho...s-exchange#law

Well i'm still trying to decide if i want to exchange my tele. If anyone still watches this thread and has one can you tell me if your light leakage is always noticeable unless you turn the backlight off completely? and also does your TV sit straight in the stand, mine is at an angle and i wondered if this was by design?

If there is light leakage, I don't notice it. I do remember when installing the stand, something about it didn't quite line up properly, not that it has any effect on the TV being straight for me.

Only problem for me is the black line issue which doesn't seem to be getting sorted, and the pointless Active Vision setting which doesn't seem to make the blindest bit of difference on my set (unlike the Samsung version on my mate's TV, which makes a massive difference in the picture when active).

Ok thanks, my light leakage/clouding is noticeable all the time during dark scenes or if i have black bars top and bottom and is in all 4 corners. Having said that i've seen some pictures where it looks really bad so i'm going to try and live with it for now. Black flicking line is another matter though, as is the jumping, flickering and juddering but i'm hoping that will be fixed by an up to date HDMI.

For reference i thought i'd make a note of what i have so maybe others can compare and maybe we can find a common issue between those with the black line flicker.

HDMI 1 = Sky HD box (Amstrad R003.037)
HDMI 2 = Xbox 360
HDMI 3 = Virgin V HD box
HDMI 4 = Toshiba Blu-ray (BDX3200KB)

Nothing in any Scart/composite slots.

Router is a Virgin Super Hub (Netgear)

Black line flicker is visible on all HDMI ports and Freeview HD and is significantly worse with a HD and 3D source, in fact watching Capitan America last night in 3D it happened at least 20 times in 2 hours and seems to be worse the longer the TV is on for.

Not sure what help this will be but worth a try.

Ok, i'm going to end my involvement with this thread as i'm returning the TV. The Black line flicking is getting worse by the day and is now happening around 20-30 times an hour and goes from a thin line top and bottom to a big thick line across the middle. Enough is enough.

My advice for anyone looking to buy this TV, Avoid at all costs.

*EDIT* Returned the TV today for a replacement and within 5 minutes of turning it on the same dreaded black line tear happened. Aside from that i have to say the screen in this TV is truly awful, i thought it might have been my previous set but turn off Active Vision and watch F1 and you'll struggle to make out the cars for the terrible blur. Returning this in the morning and changing for an LG or Samsung.

Hi.
If by "at an angle" you mean it is not horizontally aligned with the base, then yes it's by design. You may not realise, but the whole TV can swivel on the stand (it's quite stiff but should move easily). Simply hold the TV by the edges and reposition to line up with the base.

If you mean that one half of the screen is higher than the other, then no, it shouldn't be like that!

Haha, yeah my replacement moved but the previous one wouldn't budge at all. Anyway my head hurts at looking for replacement TV's, it seems they all have their problems, LG = banding and lag, Samsung = poor 3D.

For the money this TV is about the best i could get i think which annoys me even more that i have this issue that's spoiling it. I completely isolated the tv in a mains socket well away from anything else and it did seem to reduce the black line issue so i'm going to buy a decent surge protector and see, my brains telling me the black line could be caused by an electrical surge. Fingers crossed.

*Edit* Sadly i've been unable to fix the issue after trying many things and spending a small fortune on new leads/Protectors. No option but to return it and find a different brand.

I've had the same TV for about 3 months now and although I rarely see a black tear, once a week, everything else about this TV is great. Yes there is some backlight bleed but I have the backlight set to 55 so it's hardly noticable, love this TV

I must see the black tear between 30-50 times per night, and that's not even me watching it all the time.

Getting fed up with the lack of progress now, but no chance of the online store refunding it and Toshiba won't do anything until they've investigated it....which is taking ages

Nope, nothing yet. I'm giving them another 2 weeks and then I'll be chasing it up the chain of command.

You are really patience I've just sent them another email. Nothing was done for nearly 2 months and I'm sure 2 weeks will change nothing unless we will start sending them emails and let them know we are really unhappy

I contacted Toshiba yesterday and was told their Head office is aware of a few sets that have this black line issue and that a firmware update will more than likely fix the issue. I was then told I would be contacted when a new firmware update is available.
I think the more people complain of this issue, the quicker Toshiba will turn this around. Contact them on 01932 841600 and ask for TV Customer Services.

Thanks. I will definitely contact them as this is taking too long.

FEW sets having black line issue?? They must be joking. It looks like almost everyone has got the same problem and some of us got replacement from Toshiba and we know that has changed nothing.

Cant see what all this black line fuss is all about

Had the TV for a few months now.

Missed out on the free 5 year warranty as I bought it online. But if I ever have any problems I'll just quote the European Consumer law and I'll be fine.

Yes I see the black line issue. But only very occasionally. Maybe once or twice a day and its only a split second. Doesn't bother me in the slightest. The panel quality is great, HD pictures are great and the SD picture quality is solid. The 3D does flicker but I put that down to the lighting in my room.

Great connectivity. Gaming lag on the xbox is very minimal and 3D MKV playback is great through my laptop.

The Smart TV features are OK. But I'm not really interested in youtube or iplayer. Nice to have them though.

Yes I can understand if the black line issue is more prominent the purists will hate on it. But I really cant fault this TV

I'm no 'purist', I just want a TV that works properly. The fault appears to be either mild, non-existent or extreme depending on individual TV's....which is why I'm struggling to see how a firmware update can fix it.

You don't need to be a 'purist' to be annoyed by seeing this tearing occur up to 20 or 30 times every evening....I'm sure you'd get fed up pretty quick?

Not sure if its ok to post links here???
amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B005F4HXNI/ref=ox_ya_os_product

Thats where I got mine from, and they do work flawlessly.

Also, could anyone post a link to the latest firmware?

Thanks

Hi all,

Been following the post since I got my TL868B in February, i logged a call with Toshiba about two months and have chased them once, I have just had them on the phone saying that as I have waited so long they want to replace the TV with a 40TL963, only problem is it is in silver.

Does anyone know if the 963 is a better unit? Obviuosly will be if ithas no back line issues!

Thanks.

According to spec from Toshiba website Dynamic Contras Ratio of that TV is 1.000.000:1 where for 868 is 5.000.000:1.
And 963 can record to USB.

Just been on the phone with them again and told them I've been waiting almost 2mnths for answer. Nice man said he will pass my details to Head Office and they will contact me in max. 48h to discuss what they can do about it. Well let's see.

I might be wrong but in my opinion it will be really similar TV. Well much better if you will not have black line issue. If they will offer me 963 I will take it. What I can lose? Black lines?
