Could easily be the camera with regards to white lettering on black backgrounds- I know it's hard to take those kind of pics. Best person to ask is zAndy

As for buzzing, the D6900 51" is supposed to be very very quiet (u have to be right up close to hear). Unfortunately the 59" is reportedly louder than the 51" though.

The only thing for me is Active 3D, which I didn't want to get into again. But one of the reasons I wanted to go to Passive is void now (my missus getting headaches with Active- we found she got them with Passive too anyway).

Haha! I know what u mean- I have a few blu's I was going to save watching till I bought the 980t. Only now, they're still waiting till I get the 6900

I think I'll be having my own "Forbidden Pile" too at this rate

Ah yeah sure who knows what might be harmful. It is interesting how often we hear scaremongering though and stuff turns out to be pretty harmless (like the mobile phone stuff) but as you say maybe in 20 years we'll find out all sorts of stuff was slightly harmful. Until then we can go on enjoying our tvs... although not the 980 I'm afraid. I'll remember to check in with my optician on a regular basis and will shout if anything comes up in the ophthalmology journals though so you'll know if there is cause to worry

Maybe I can get him to register on this forum and he can answer questions. I'll bribe him with a couple of beers

Seems that Samsung have signed up with Du-Pont for OLED printing tech and manufacture.

Du Pont reckon they can now "print a 50" screen in a matter of a couple of minutes and it is very cheap to do" "using a continuous ink method".

We could see the prices of OLED become cheap very quickly!

I know this was announced last year about the new technique but the Samsung signing up is recent news and still a rumour that is not quite confirmed. I wonder if Samsung pulled the deal with RealD to concentrate on OLED instead of 3D or even OLED with active 3D?

15 year life according to the article which is much less than they said before.

Quantum Dot Tech has a much better lifespan apparently so OLED need to improve on that 15 years. Then again I doubt there would be many TVs that would be kept for 15 years before being upgraded or something other than the screen going wrong anyway.

I was going to say the same thing- who here expects to keep a tv that long anyway? Blimey i wasn't expecting to keep my missus that long let alone a tv!

Night Johnboy, Night Mary Ellen, Goodnight Grandma, Night fellas.

That's going to be the thing, fully flexible rollup printed OLED screens! Something we can all dream about owning one day, maybe.

Dimming zone fiasco aside this TV is a great TV
Yep it takes a little tinkering to get the PQ just how you want it but once you do it produces an awesome visual experience both in 2D and especially 3D
You just have to know what you're doing when it comes to altering the settings in order to make watching films such as Alien in a pitch dark room enjoyable
Here are some screen shots to prove my point.
Any out of focus shots are purely down to my camera not being on a tripod in a totally dark room but as you can see from the over exposure of some bright scenes that any haloing or banding whatsoever would definitely show up.
I used cinema mode with a few adjustments and LD on low. If I were to switch LD off then yes the blacks would get washed out but who'd wanna watch a movie like that? All shots were taken head on, not from an upward or side angle, (important as this is the usual watching angle for most people) from a distance of around 10 feet from the screen but I didn't use a wide angle lens as that distorts the horizontal plane.
Like I said before the ONLY time I see banding is when watching football.

Guys, it has already been confirmed by other users as well as myself- LD on Low produces stronger more noticeable banding artefacts on the 980T "non-prototype" compared to Medium. As u saw, the banding patterns show themselves on the rings of the planet on the very first shot- with LD on Low they would be even worse. It will take serious tweaking to make sure the banding is not as visible, halo's are at a minimum, and still have good blacks. I'll try when I get home and see what settings I end up with to accomplish that, then see if i can still actually see any picture at all afterwards if I haven't made it too dull!

Samsung LCD didn't impress me either with regards to banding, however the D8000 did have superb blacks and brightness during daylight. Easily comparable to the 980t in my opinion.

I don't know how Toshiba's plasma's compare to Samsung's plasma's, but it's good u have looked at all your alternatives available to u. Good luck with what ever u decide mate.
I checked out the D6900 at JL yesterday which proved quite difficult as all the TV,s are so crammed in i could only sit about 4ft away. The picture was a bit darker than i hoped but the colours looked more natural which was apparent as it was next to a Samsung led which looked artificial and as i have always been a bit of a crt man inc projectors Barco ect i have always liked a cinematic picture.
The screen looked quite reflective in dark scenes which was a bit worrying as i have a large bright lounge, also the screen was red hot.
I was hoping to see a Lw980t on display but nothing and the same with currys.
All the reviews give the D6900 glowing reports so i might just have to take the plunge and if i am not happy send it back.

Did yours come with a yellow sticker as this shows energy saving criteria's were met and the contrast reduced on these sets to save money but sacrifice PQ

That's all very well but people can't buy that TV you've currently got can they, just goes to show what the 980T could and should have been. Still no better than a TV costing less than half what the 980T costs as well let's not forget. I'm pleased you're happy with your loaner , looking forward to hearing if u feel the same when you get your 980T...
Oh and btw to those asking about line bleed on my D6900 I can honestly say I've never seen any and trust me I know what it is having had a PX990, even posted pics of it on the PX990 thread at the time.
