Damn its silly its not, they are a little pricey for what they are (unbranded ect) Wouldn't be worth the money.

What Auto-Dimming feature? AFAIK dynamic contrast adjusts the backlight but this can be turned off and the ECO sensor which can also be switched off. I've not heard of any other backlight dimming feature on the C580/C530 other than these.

ECO sensor adjust the backlight according to the ambient lighting

Dynamic Contrast is software based image enhancing algorithm and should not be enabled. It also controls the backlight to an extent.

Shadow-Detail controls the latency so the backlight wouldn't dim immediately.

But unfortunately, you can't completely disable backlight dimming when using CEA timing, unless you connect the source to HDMI-1 and relabel it to PC.

But don't worry, the dimming is far less noticeable thanks to the S-PVA's superior blacks

Does this tv have audio out other than optical, i.e does it have red and white audio out or just headphone out as I want to plug this into my onkyo receiver but it doesn't have optical...

Thanks

PS if someone could post a picture of the back of the tv ports that would be fantastic!

I'll check the model this evening for you.
Any chance you have got round to it yet ? Thanks

Am tempted to purchase the 42" model of this tv for the current £400 price, am wondering if this was a good idea as I was also looking at the LG LD490 and the Sony 40EX403 although the sony is a bit difficult to get hold of now.

Will be using it mainly for its internet features, watching movies off the laptop and gaming.

Thanks.

I assume you mean 40" not 42". Do NOT buy a Sony 40EX403. My girlfriend has one, & I can tell you from my experience that it's significantly inferior to the LE40C580. If you fancy the 40EX403, you would doubtless prefer the >£600 (at Amazon today) KDL40EX503. Well here are some comments off Amazon by people who bought the LE40C580 in preference to the Sony Bravia KDL40EX503...

Comment 1. Bought an equivalent Freeview HD Sony tv (kdl40ex503) the only difference being that the sony was 100hz the samsungs only 50hz but to be honest I havent noticed much difference now that ive had both. If you want the 100hz version, you'll probably have to pay an extra hundred squids. I had the Sony for a month while I was waiting for argos to send a replacement, (because of a manufacturing defect on the frame) but when they told me I would have to wait for new stock, which was definitely coming in and after ringing about a dozen times over the weeks, they then turned round and said it wouldnt be coming back in stock - even though I saw it in the new catalogue! I sent it back for a refund and im glad i did, because the Samsung looks much better quality and cheaper to boot. The samsung has a nice glass stand, the Sonys' was high gloss plastic and even after just a couple of light dusts you could see fine scratches. The Samsung just looks much nicer in the living room and id say the picture quality is slightly better too. I have always thought that Sony products were superior but this has completely changed my mind. Id definitely recommend this tv over the Sony. It's even cheaper now. i think you can get it for £500 quid on amazon. I paid £540. Excellent tv for the price!

Comment 2. I purchased this TV at the same time as the Sony EX503 40 inch & my plan was to compare the two & decide which one to keep. The Sony had got all the rave reviews in What Hifi & TV & on other review websites, but there were only one or two reviews of this Samsung TV. I already owned a 32 inch Samsung I bought 4 or 5 years ago & I loved that TV for every second I owned it. I wanted to upgrade to a Freeview HD TV & a bigger screen at the same time. I tried out both TVs & I generally liked this one better. It's over a hundred pounds cheaper for a start. But apart from the price, I generally felt the picture was sharper & clearer on this Samsung. In particular the Freeview HD channels come out crystal clear. On the Sony I had to study the Freeview HD pictures much more to notice any difference to standard HD. Eventually I did & the Sony is a good TV. But with the Samsung the Freeview HD just seemed much clearer to watch. Also standard Freeview on the Samsung is good too & clear & not fuzzy at all. But on the Sony standard Freeview was quite fuzzy. I expected the sound on the Samsung to be really weak with no bass & distortion like the 32 inch model i had before. But Samsung definately have improved the sound on this TV. It's still not booming bass. But it is very clear audio & very good stereo. It has very light bass - much better than models from a few years ago. But the sound is still a bit light compared to the Sony which was much richer. But after watching this TV for a few weeks now i'm used to the sound & it sounds great to me now all the time. I can plug it into my hifi if i want & it sounds much more powerful & bassy on there.

Also I just preferred the design of the Samsung as it looks slim, sleeky & expensive. The Sony's design was OK & i'm sure i would have got used to it. But it did appear to be much bulkier at the back & was completely made of cheap looking plastic. Whereas the Samsung's screen looks convincingly like glass (even though it's plastic) & the rest of back is metal & the plastic is well designed & expensive looking.

This Samsung does not have an internet platform and you can't use it by itself to get onto BBC Iplayer, etc... But it has 2 USB ports where you can connect your digital camera or any media usb stick & it plays video files, mp3's, etc... Plus at the back it has an ethernet socket to connect it to the internet. But you can't get on the internet using the TV alone. You can connect it to your home internet connection and stream media from your laptop for instance but you can't surf the internet on it. The Sony had a proper internet connection & some brilliant applications like BBC Iplayer, Five on demand, You Tube, etc... and it was very impressive. But I thought on balance, that wasn't a huge necessity as my laptop has a HDMI so i can connect to TV & surf internet whenever i want. Plus all the manufacturers are developing internet on tv on an ongoing basis, such as Google's Android TV, etc...

I also played games on my PS3 on the Samsung & they played great with great sharp pictures & sound.

My only gripe was Blu ray playback which was just ok & not as sharp as on the Sony. I watched Blu Ray on both & the Sony Blu Ray playback seemed much clearer & sharper. The Samsung Blu Ray playback is good but not as good as the Sony.

So if your main use of the TV is to watch Blu Rays maybe the Sony's a better buy. But as I'll only watch the odd Blu Ray & would be watching Freeview HD more. So the Samsung was overall a better buy I felt.

So I summarised overall this TV was better value for what you get & overall quality wise compared to the Sony (apart from Blu Ray playback wise). So I kept the Samsung & returned the Sony for a refund. I thought I may regret doing so. But one month later i'm very happy I made the right decision & have no regrets.

Comment 3. Had this set a couple of weeks now. I was considering the 40" Sony Bravia, which a friend has and payed a heck of a lot more for. In my opinion this is a superior tv for a lot less money. I was able to set it up in minutes, am hugely impressed by the quality of the picture (which after all is the most important thing). Am playing movies through both the Samsung pc share manager and through a USB stick. A point here, you can fast forward movies when playing through the USB stick but not the Share Manager on the pc. Overall a really good set worth the money.

The only annoying thing is it's not suitable for me as i found out The c580 wins hands down over sony so i am told ..... I have been considering the LG ld490 simply because the 37" is £83 ish cheaper than the 37" c580.I think i have made my mind up and will be trying to wait another 2 months for the new range if i can hold back. (Its annoying having to still a little 19" from my sister)

You will love the 40" if you don't plan to use it as a monitor for over 20 mins a day.If you will only be a meter or 2 away your notice the slow pixel reponse. That was the only problem i had. A-MVA panels are hard to get in the uk except in the 46" (Had for 3 months) and 37" but due to the buzzing i don't really want to chance it. This is due to being a monitor as its main use so i don't get on with S-PVA's

They are great except for the pixel response.

Thanks for the reply Russ, I read about 25+ pages from the previous thread and about you and your girlfriend buying the two tvs in question
Has nobody hacked the c580 to do internet tv?
I will have my laptop, ps3 and xbox 360 connected up, just wanted the convenience of not having to switch them on to view some things.....
Finally I did read that the usb supports ntfs which is good, am sure the sony was fat32 only... But any idea for mkv files?

And yeh Gunners4life read about your story too My current laptop has a 17.3" screen on it which is big enough for me to be honest considering I have been used to smaller 13.3" laptops from the past but will use that for watching movies etc..... Unless I can some how ressurect my dead desktop that sometimes doesn't power up or blue screens within seconds.... Not sure if its a motherboad issue or what

Think the cheapest at the moment for the 40" c580 is at best buy for £400 plus the 8% cashback....

Aside from the optical audio output, it only has the headphone socket. No red/white audio out I'm afraid.
If you google reviews on the C580, you'll find pictures of the TV ports at the back.

Thats just to make it wireless not for internet tv which looks like the C580 can't do, so bit of a shame.

That's one of the things that will hold me back from buying a Samsung telly. I have an old Technics amp which is perfect for a good stereo output but the lack of analogue outputs on the Samsung TV's means I wouldn't be able to use it.

Really don't want to rely on the tinny built in speakers. The LG's I've looked at have been the same, but Panasonic and Sony TV's still seem to have analogue audio out ports.

I don't think it has analogue audio out but I'd have to see one in a shop to know for sure, and I've read reports of bad screen reflection with LG plasmas which is no good for me.

Automatic shut down

I've been using a LE40C580J1K since March 9. Over last few days it sometimes
shuts down without asking. Also menu request sometimes closes it down. Rebooting sometimes required eg if incorrect ch. no. keyed in & then corrected too quickly.
Software version:- T-VAL5DEUC-1005.2 TV version AA01
Would upgrade to 1006.1 (latest) help?

You can get "Stereo Headphone 3.5mm Plug To Red/White Dual RCA Plugs adapter splitters or cables" for less than a fiver which would solve the issue. Just google the name and that should tell you where you can get them online. Have a look here (if posting links is OK):

Firstly if i am honest i would just buy it from amazon for £399.99 as if there is a problem or you don't like it you know you can send it back hassel free within 14 days or 30 if its a fault. This is from experience I don't have a laptop otherwise i probally wouldn't bother using the tv. Its a space saving thing for me and my computer is still going strong and isn't worth paying £300 for something thats not even better.

Best of luck I really hope you get it from amazon just for peice of mind reasons.I would happily pay £30 more just for that pleasure

Re Best Buy and Quidco, a friend of mine is still waiting for cashback 10 weeks after his credit card was debited. Quidco say they're chasing Best Buy to honour their promise. I don't know if this an isolated case, or commonplace.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-LE3...41744&sr=1-157

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-LE2...41744&sr=1-159

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-LE1...41744&sr=1-160

Im sure these are not the real prices.I would imagine they will change once released and in line with other bigger retailers

Doesn't seem to be a D530 yet though :S

Looks like i will wait for the D580 depending on price and if the c580 37" drops enough Glad i decided to go though many pages on amazon now.

Doesn't look like it will include 100hz ..... but the spec isn't fully there ... Just thought i would give a heads up that they are ment to be out in 3 days according to amazon.

D450 spec from same place :

The main thing seems to be a couple of "pointless for some additions" and a change of colour maybe ? "charcoal Black Colour"
The D450 might be the c530 remasked ? with a extra hdmi ?

Just guessing just hoping for some more info from someone who knows more as i thought these were not going to be out untill may time .....

It does? Like what?

I was planning on buying the 40C580 this Weekend. Should I wait now for the D series?

What would be the difference?

Also Neilo, any word on the 24p feature?
