Here is the full line up.

The only difference seems to be in the LED zones, 9706 has 224 while 9606 112, it's thickness, it's not as slim as 9706 and it does not have a anti glare foil like 9706, but it's interesting that it has ambilight spectra 3 xl like 9706.

Maybe it will be a better value then 9706, we will see.

The 9606 range also seems to go up a size, topping out at 52" rather than the 46" of the 9706, and both seem to have the 'moth eye' nanostructure filter on the screen.

I would be interested to see how much difference the extra LED lighting zones actually makes to real world viewing...

Again the problem here is timing. The early bird takes the warm. It looks like a nice line-up and they got a reasonably large screen 52''. I would prefer 55 or 60 but 52 might be just the ticket, specially when there are so few competitors. Full LED are very few. LG nano passive ones, Sony HX and the only credible competitor was Toshiba ZL1 which will not be coming to the UK. Seemly the UK market does not have enough money nevertheless they are selling it in Spain. I think Toshiba headquarters in Japan should sack the UK headquarters. The only ones which are in the UK market at the moment are the Sony ones. Hopefully Philips will get the new ones into the market sooner rather than later. I will write the 52PFL9606 into the consider list.

I see the 9706 has a reported response time of 0.5ms compared to the 9705 which has a response time of 1ms. Any experts out there reckon that this will make a big difference with regards to motion? I watch my 9705 without PNM on and the motion is starting to look pretty poor in my eyes, am I likely to see any difference with the 0.5ms difference?

I think the 9706 uses the same Sharp LCD panel as the 9705.

I gave up on the 9705 and got a refund from philips a couple of months ago. Just waiting for the 46" 9706 now.

It's just going to have all the same problems though isn't it? Using the same screen being assembled at the same plant just makes me presume the dirty screen effect will continue. I wish Philips would release a plasma tv with ambilight.

Possibly, but with a new faster chipset installed in the 9706, there might be a glimmer of hope.

The software will probably be all new as well, rather than trying to add new features to the old 9705 software, with all it's inherent bugs.

After all even Sony can't manage a good top of the range "Flagship" TV these days.

The new Philips sound very impressive in paper. We only new some good reviews. According to its website Philips - 9000 series Smart LED TV 132 cm (52") Full HD 3D Max DVB-T2/C - 52PFL9606T/12 - 9000 series - Televisions - Sound and vision

This TV is not a 50Hz, nor a 100Hz nor 400 not even 800 but a full 1000Hz. If manufacturers keep going at this rate with these number we will hit the full mega Hz by early 2012. Any how I hope it is really an excellent TV.

I think it goes like this (no doubt I will be corrected if I'm wrong):-

1000Hz = 1kHz
1000kHz = 1MHz
1000MHz = 1GHz
1000GHz = 1THz etc

So quite a way to go before we see a 1MHz TV and this is if we can believe the "Claimed" figures.

Still looks good though and hopefully not to long untill the 9706 is available.

Hi Nick, I believe that it is correct, the Greek prefixes, kilo, mega, giga, tera, peta an so on. But that is the irony of the comment that manufacturers keep claiming these number but the real frequency of the panel is in the 50, 100 Hz. It looks that like they are outdoing each other in their claims, so if we follow their claims, this TV is 1kHz and the "full mega Hz will be in the shops by early 2012" . Nevertheless I hope that it is really a good TV since there is very little options out there for a really good TV. They do not include any 3d Glasses I was expecting Philips to be a bit more generous than that.

But isn't it the response time that's important for producing a smoother, sharp image? That 1000Hz I assume includes the effect of perfect natural motion on max, and I'd never watch anything like that as the movement doesn't look realistic at all.

looking at the 9000 series after having owned in recent weeks two sony 55" hx923's which both suffered badly from the well documented "crease" anyway back on topic....been doing a comparison between the 52" 9000 series and the 46" model after reading on What Hifi site that the 46" is the flagship model and true enough the spec of the 46" does seem to be the greater.

anyone know why the same features/spec isn't transferable to the 52"? i'm guessing some of the features missing are left off the 52" because the panel size dilutes the effect??? or its a panel sourced elsewhere that cannot support them????

May well be that for Philips, the most popular size (As far as sales goes) has been the 46" and so would make sense to keep this as the "Top Dog"

The award means nothing in my eyes, they get it every year regardless. The 3D didn't even work last year and they got the award about 2 months before the tv was even released. It's a joke really.
