Yeah, there's no way I can wait till September for the 950T I'm afraid, I'm actually getting quite interested in the LW550T now, depends what the price difference is between the 550T and 650T. Looks like the Panny plasmas still have the 50hz bug so discounted them now so it's either one of the LGs or a Samsung something or other...

I'm between the 47LW550T and 47LW650T now too ... the LW650T is going to be Dixons/Currys/PCworld exclusive though and out end of the month, I'm guessing it will be a hundred or two more than the cheapest LW550T which is available from various retailers. Probably more than will justify the limited extra features for me but might hang on for some more reviews.

Robert Whyte are selling the 47LW550T for £1189.99 and claiming there will be a £200 sky cashback deal starting April 7th (£100 for the 42", £400 for the 55").

Not heard great reviews about Robert Whytes so probably wouldn't order from them but it should start appearing elsewhere for a similar price soon, LambdaTek have it at £1147.34 but not in stock yet.

Anyone from LG able to confirm anything about the sky cashback offer?

Nobody apologise to anybody yet!!! The USA LW9500 owner's manual became available and there it talks of interference of the glasses due to distance or being near RF equipemnt. Therefore the glasses are active therefore back to square 1 .

Hmmm, the TV is not even out there yet so that may well change again anyway but it will be really bad news if they are going active on this TV. George??

Just saw all 4 of the new cinema 3D sets and I must admit it was one of the best 3D experiences I have had.

Not sure I can wait for the LW950, which I was told will be passive by Sept, but I will be giving the LW650 serious consideration along with the Samsung D8000 and the Panasonic VT30 but the LG has shot the top of my short list :-)

I wish I could make it but I'm at work both days and couldn't make the trip to Birmingham in such short notice. Loved the sets today though :-)

I was lucky enough to go to todays event and viewed the 47LW550t/LW650t (wasn't sure which was which tbh) in action. We first viewed the TV showing some football on Sky 3D (too early for the Masters - which i really want to see in 3D) and first impressions were very good. The glasses were really comfortable, light and obviously flicker free. The 3D had good depth and I only experienced some cross talk when viewing from an angle where I was above the tv, i.e. if you were sitting level with the screen it was pretty much flawless. The picture was bright and clear and I could easily have sat and watched the whole match in 3D.
We also experienced some 2D->3D conversion watching sky1 HD and was actually surprised at how well it worked, although I doubt I would use this very often. One thing I did notice with this, when not wearing the glasses there was some wierd distortion to the picture, straight lines went bowed and wierd, im guessing this was just the tv trying to process the picture. I didn't really notice what effect this had when the glasses were on as we only experienced it for a few minutes.

Next up we had a go at some 3D gaming using COD on the xbox, i've previously heard bad reports of COD in 3D but it looked fine to me, it added something to the game and I think this will be something I will use it regularly for. This demo was done in a room with big double doors which opened onto a balcony, and was therefore filled with sunlight. The matt screen meant that reflections were at a minimum and I could still clearly see what was on the screen.

Finally we got a demo of the Smart Tv, I loved the DLNA like app - I think it was called media box - which scans your network for Media files and automatically downloads Images and descriptions for files from the information in the name. We viewed a couple of trailers for Tron, transformers and I think Final Fantasy and the image quality was amazing, very clear and great blacks.

I think im sold, the only problem is that after viewing the 47", I thought it was too small and now want the 55". Atleast i'd get £400 back from Sky..

Thanks to the guys (and very good looking girls) for having me round.

George on the video from the inquirer mentions 3 cinema 3d series TVs LW450, LW550, LW650. What was the fourth cinema 3d set you saw?

I saw the 3 mentioned along with the LW950. The LW950 was only a production set so didn't manage to see it in 3D but did get a good look at the Smart TV through it as well as the motione sensor wand thingy that seemed to work really well.

What I'd like to know is whether the LW650T is worth the extra over the LW550T? What are the differences exactly and is the LW650T visibly better than the LW550T?

Cheers

It really depends. The 200 hz, IMO, made the screens motion handling a little smoother but not so much so that you would want to pay loads more. I would certainly pay a little more if given the option and will be looking into what the prices will be on release.

My main problem though is I want to buy the 950 and I would really like to make the choice between that model and the Samsung D8000 and the Panasonic VT30 but I am not sure I can wait till Sept. I had a look at the D8000, straight after seeing the 550/650 and I am thinking if it's a choice between those two I would possibly go for the D8000. However, if it was between the 950 I am almost certain i would plump for the 950 (if you get me).

I was hoping to buy a new tv before the summer and I would really like it to be an LG. However, knowing that there is a better TV on the horizon will make that decision difficult. If I can't wait I will most likely get one of the flagship Samsungs or Panasonics. Another concern would be that if I did wait for the 950 it will then be released at a price that will be prohibative seeing as the other TV's mentioned will have lowered in price by Sept (or at least I assume they would have) and any flaws in the sets may have been ironed out. Oh I don't know, using passive 3D was a dream and I the LG Home event has certainly mad my choices that little more tough

The problem is, if you want until Sept the talk will then be about the sets due for release Mar 2012 - only six months later. We could be waiting forever for the perfect set, I'm in the same boat and have decided to get the best available now, then maybe try to convince the Mrs we need an upgrade in 18-24 mths ;-)

Exactly, the problem is I don't want to buy a set now and then see a set released 4 months later that I wished I waited for. At least with the Pana and Sammy, I know I am buying a TV from a company that won't be releasing a better version of what I have until this time next year.

Am just wondering that given that the passive 3D works on 540p/540p, is there really a need to upgrade any AV kit with 1.3 HDMI to 1.4? Or am I missing the point somewhere?

If you people are thinking of waiting for the LW950 for the full led passive 3d DON'T !!! The LG US site has officially added the TV in the 3d products and its ACTIVE!!!!I am really bumped by this but there is no doubt anymore. Spec sheet and all clearly state SG glasses and full hd 1080p 3d.

Just go here
LG 55LW9500 Televisions - 55" Class 3D capable 1080P 480Hz LED TV with SmartTV (54.6" diagonal) - LG Electronics US
and expend the specs or download the spec sheet here
http://www.lg.com/us/products/docume...2055LW9500.pdf

Well i guess that obliges me to go the active way as i have lost hope for a full led local dimming set with passive 3d this year and i am seriously looking at the D8000 which i saw yesterday and was very satisfied by the 2d quality and failry satisfied by the 3d. If i wait more it will be only for the rumored Samsung RDZ with Full HD passive 3d and not LG anymore.

Too bad for LG and the 99% chance of the LW950 being passive unless there is something else coming our way and don't know it yet!!!

George Mead has just said it will be re-named LW980T which makes me wonder if we will either get both a 950 active and 980 Passive or we'll just get the 980 Passive and the USA will get both or just the 950 Active.

Thank you so much for letting us know. I was very confused as I thought that US and UK models were similar as far as basic tech was concerned.

Many thanks!!!

There will not be any LCD/LED TVs this year in any country with Active Shutter technology - all of the 3D LCD/LED TVs will be CINEMA 3D.

LW950T is dropped and model number change to LW980T (launching in September in 47" and 55")
LW770T is dropped due to above focus on LW980T

Hopefully the above puts this one to bed

George

All I need to do is find the strength to wait as the draw of the Sammy and Pana are strong but the LW950 is currently top.

Anybody know what size brackets the 55" will need. My mount will take a maximum of 460mm height x 705mm width (VESA Holes)
