Toshiba 32RV753/37RV753/40RV753 Owners Thread

Hi
Has anyone heard anything about the new Toshiba Regza 32RV753B?

Is it an upgraded replacement to the successful 32RV635DB?

Can't find any reviews or anything about it online yet, just a few companies gearing up to sell it....

Looks good... comes with all the usual bits including Dolby sound and a Freeview HD tuner built in.

Just wanted to know, if anyone knew of any links where anyone had reviewed this yet?

Many Thanks for any help

Regards CMC

it seems as though the RV7xx series only have 50hz instead of 100 or 200hz Apart from that the specs look decent. The 40WL753B is the freeview hd LED backlight that i'm after, looks like it will be £900 ish though £150 or so more than the 42ZV that is still out.

I currently have the 42ZV555DB but the power switch on my tv has broken so i have to put it in standby to switch it off which uses are 1w constantly which is a bit annoying so was hoping to get it replaced with an updated 42ZV with a freeview HD tuner but it looks like there won't be 1 instead a really expensive LED backlit tv to replace it would appear

I doubt digitaldirect would let me have the 40WL753B as a replacement due to it being around £200 more than the tv i bought I've got a 5yr warranty btw.

Thanks

Hi
Thanks for your repsonse. This Toshiba 32RV753B does seem to be exactly what I'm after, Freeview HD and also noticed DLNA. I've never really figured out what was so bad about 50hz though.... I realise at 100hz its adding to the picture but regardless of all the LCDs I've seen be it 50hz, 100hz or 200hz there is still some degree of motion blur and ghosting.

My main reason for wanting a new TV is for PS3, SD and World Cup, but I don't want the footballers to be blurry little pixels, tho the Tosh's do apparently have an excellent upgrading system to combat motion blur, and also am only after a 32" so hopefully want notice motion blur too much...

One quick question tho.. does the PS3 run ok on a 50hz TV? Does it matter?

Many Thanks.... Wishing someone would review this new Toshiba series.... come on trustedreviews!

Cheers
CMC

Anyone

I think these TVs are gonna be popular especially with built in Freeview HD but does anyone else have an insight into this range, was literally about to go out and buy the 32RV635DB after its been getting some excellant reviews but then saw this was due but still no real insight as to if its better than the 32RV635DB coupled with a freeview HD box?

Any advice help or links to reviews would be welcome thanks, If I find more I'll post here

Regards

CMC

Hi,

I bought a Toshiba 40LV733G, and i like it. But,

I cant find anything online regarding the tv. not even on toshiba website!
thats when i looked at the case and read "Assembled in Poland". I went to Toshiba Polish website, and voilą, there it was.

I find the sound quality *very* bad, and after reading some posts about toshiba tv's i cant stop wondering if the panel will have those problems described (4 inch with different tone). Should i get my money back right away?

The RV735B is the sucessor to the RV635.

Btw the 40RV735 (freeview HD) version is £549.99 @ amazon, pretty decent price. The 32RV735B is £449.99 @ amazon.

No eta on the 40WL753B (200hz LED backlight version) yet

Does it make a hige difference that these TV's are only 50hz, do they work fine with PS3? Is it worth paying the extra for Freeview HD and Dolby?

Anyone got any reviews up yet? am still looking.....

Got the 40RV753 yesterday. Havent had a chance to play games on it yet, but have no complaints about the TV so far. Ran some fast moving blu rays and other stuff and to me all looked pretty darn good.

I wouldnt get too hung up about 100Hz.

The 40RV753 is cheapest at comet - £549.99 but use voucher code 5199AW at checkout online and for 5% off (£522.50) and if you want to collect in store, choose click & collect (think theres also a 6% code somewhere). You also get a free photoframe you can sell on for probably £40-50 back (it's a nice frame, comes with remote etc). Plus use topcashback who give 4% cashback for Comet.

Enjoying the TV so far - HD channels working (built in freeview HD is a great feature). Currently trying to set up DLNA feature though, and having a few probs.

Saw 32" in Comet

Saw the 32" REgza in Comet yesterday and the quality is really good, watched the normal freeview feed of the news and the upscaling did its job coz I didnt notice any motin blur then watched the football on the comet DVD and that was near enough perfect aswell and I'm a real critic, motion blur is my biggest bug bear and totally puts me off getting a flatscreen but this has changed my mind.

Shame the TV is £449 its a lot for a 32" trying to justify it in my head, best deal I've found is John Lewis which includes their 5 year warranty free.

Anyone else seen any better deals? also most places are doin th TV for free if England win the world cup.... which, I guess, is possible or atleast its a throw away bet, and hey all the better if they win!

Question

What do people here that have 32RV753B think of it? I cant find any reviews of it anywhere. Is this really the model here on amazon? Toshiba 32RV753B 32-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo
I cant believe its only £380 now! I'm just worried there are no consumer reviews even on amazon yet.

Also has anyone tried setting up the DLNA? and which wifi dongle have you used with it?

Any replies much appreciated.
Cheers,

Cheers,
Will try wired ethernet connection next weekend (or maybe tonight if the footy's cr@p) so will comment after that - won't use wifi but I'd read somewhere that only Toshiba's dongle would work - but I might have read that in the manual, but Toshiba would say that wouldn't they?
I've got the tv in bedroom and the picture is excellent, perhaps better than my 2yr old 40" Tosh downstairs on freeview - once I'd tweaked the default settings. I haven't tried HD content on it and probably won't until we get Freeview HD next year. The only disappointment is the sound quality, which is just acceptable for normal telly but I sometimes like to listen to radio via freeview - will have to output to stereo hi-fi but my bedroom one doesn't have optical input (note that this RV model only has optical out, which is fine for all surround sound receivers of course).
Overall, quite pleased so far.

RV Very Impressed

Ok, so I started this thread and promised to update.....

I have now bought the 32RV from comet for £399 with the hope that England win the World Cup and I get the TV for free (yes I have also registered it with Toshiba just in case) I also bought a PS3 and an HDMI cable for the PS3.

Firstly the TV is excellant and I've looked for ages and been extremely fussy, the football picture is really good with very very minimal blurring, probably no more than my old CRT and other freeview channels look fine too... the picture quality is great even up relatively close and glad I got this with freeviewHD coz thats gonna look amazing, my PS3 works absolutely fine but I would defintely recommend getting an HDMI cable because it makes all the difference and smooths out the characters in the game and sets the PS3 to 1080p... BLURAY Iron Man is incredible!!!
all in all picture quality is excellant....
However one niggle is I am finding the picture quality with the PS3 quite bright and was wondering if anyone knew what the optimal settings were for PS3, I have tried changing it myself but not had much luck and the default settings are fine with freeview, its not a big deal just wondering... hey, how do you put the TV into game mode?

The output ports all work fine, but please note, the USB port on the side only plays pictures off a usb stick, it wont play videos or movie files, I'm using a 4gb usb stick formatted to fat32 with a normal AVI file on it and it doesnt work, when I looked closer it said pictures only.
Havent tried DLNA yet but you do need a wireless dongle which plugs into the wireless dongle port on the side. Apparently it seems any dongle will work, regardless if its Toshiba or not, I just haven't got round to getting one yet and am not fussed about it at sec.
The sound quality is absolutely fine and havent even thought twice about it and have had it up loud watching the football with no distortion even with those vuvuzelas blairing!
Anyone have any other questions please ask, and I will have a go on my TV and let you know

Regards
CMC

HI CMC,

been looking at this today and it all looks ok, even the footy seemed ok on it ( still some blur but no more than sets costing 3 x this one)
I am looking for a basic 32" LCD as have decided I will buy a freeview hd PVR soon like the 3view which has far better internet connectivity and plays all file types, so am after a set where the picture quality is good
I also figure that id 3d takes off or Laser tv/Oled's come in in a few years I won't feel bad about changing a £399 set as opposed to a £800 set.

Our viewing distance is about 3 metres, how does SD look on this set?
Can you connect to a router via a wired ethernet port or is it just wireless ( not a necessity as will use the future pvr for this) but would be nice to use it if possible beforehand)

the other set I have looked at is the Sony KDL 32EX403 did you see this one when making your decision and any thoughts?

many thanks,

Carl

Toshiba has released this now: 40SL753B

is it basically a replacement for the 42ZV635DB. It is like the 40RV735 except its 100hz not 50hz and it uses LED edge backlighting which is basically everything that i want. the 40WL series has LED edge backlighting too and is 200hz but i doubt those will make much difference

40SL735D (100hz)

Digital audio out

Another new member here with hopefully a simple question for all you knowledable folk out there. Fancy getting the 40RV753 (or maybe a Samsung LE40 C580). Either way I'm not sure if these newfangled flat screen TV's are as adaptable as my old Phillips CRT. You see there are no speaker/audio outs on these new ones (just audio in). My current set is just wired up to the aux port on my hifi for that extra boost (haven't got digital surround sound!!!). Can I do something similar using one of the 40RV753's 2 scart sockets to my hifi (Samsung 49C580 only has one scart???). Just trying to save some pennies in the short term and continue to use the hifi. Thanks a bunch people.Advice on how- if possible- would be much appreciated.

In reply to Carl - TheRedGuy -

My viewing distance is about 3 metres aswell and SD looks fine, football is still looking great (picture not the games) I keep thinking should I have gone bigger? but I dont think it would have made that much difference now, and, like you said, £399 is affordable to forget for a 32" where technology is changing so fast e.g: HD, HD Ready, 3D, Freeview, FreeviewHD, will upgrade to a bigger set when prices come down and technology settles a little bit.... if it ever does.

I connected my router to the wired port and TV picked it striaght up, I had disabled security on my router tho and turned the firewall off on my PC, as it was just a quick test but streaming worked fine.. though there was some lag as router buffered, I guess, probably need a faster router mines only 54mbps probably should up it too 108mbps but TV worked fine through wired connection, PC finds it and it just shares across

You asked about the other sets I've looked at, well I've been looking for months. I originally wanted 37" Panny Plasma, but that went out the window due to price and whether I actually wanted to go that big initially so started looking for a good cheapish 32". The others on my list have been: Samsung LE32B450, Panasonic TXL32X15, Samsung LE32B530, Panasonic TX-L32S10, Samsung LE32B550 until finally saw the Toshiba Regza 32RV635DB was getting great reviews and was about to buy when this Toshiba Regza 32RV753B came out, had freeview HD and was basically the upgraded version of the 635DB so thought f**k it, I want a TV for the world cup, thats the one I want.

Was looking at Sonys but heard the motion blur was pretty bad on them for sports and that the main brands to go for were Samsung and Panasonic, dunno whether I'm right or not, a sony would've gone nicely with my PS3 but opted for the Toshiba in the end and it really doesnt disapoint.

Hope this has been helpful, sorry to ramble

Hey was wondering what have you guys got as your optimal settings? could do with comparing to mine - TV looks fine PS3 still a bit bright - still looks amazing through HDMI but every now and then looks a little bright

Thanks Cheers
CMC

Hi CMC,

thanks for the detailed response. My CRT packed up whilst I have been looking for a new tv so I was forced to go and get one. Bought the Toshiba 32RV735 from John Lewis. Watching the football, I have been impressed considering it is only 50Hz, minimal blur as far as i can see at the moment. I saw one on JL's shop window (not the one set up in the TV dept which looked fine) and the picture on it was awful but having got mine back I am pleased with it.

It doesn't have all the bells and whistles, plenty of inputs though, but as a replacement for my CRT for a couple of years it looks like it will do the business until better things are available at a more realistic price.

Set up was simple, SD programmes look very good on it (better than I expected) and BBC hd in particular is impressive. The only bad thing I can see so far is the viewing angle is very limited and when you deviate just slightly off centre you lose a lot of colour and contrast, ( doesn't really matter when we are watching as we have it turned towards us anyway but could affect someone who has people watching from different parts of the room).

32" is definitely the right size for our small living room. looks much bigger when you actually get the thing back home rather than in the store. I have only used the in built tuner so far but will be getting a blue ray player soon and possibly a 3view box.

Is the game mode set to Dynamic on the picture menu as this may account for the brightness on your ps3?

Thanks for your reports on this set as it made me take a look at it.

Here's photos of my Toshiba 40RV753: Toshiba 40RV753 Photos

Paid £500 inc the glass stand from Comet and 9 months interest free credit. Had to go through 3 staff to get it at that price as its £549 normally but i showed them a printout of ElectricalExperience which is £471 delivered or £465 after quidco, they tried to get me to have a crappy photo frame but we didn't want/need 1 but we did need a stand so all in all its only £5-10 more than online prices after you have paid for a stand.

Also has anyone calibrated their 40RV753, if so can you paste your settings.

Hi there, I wonder if any owners of the 32RV753 ( or other sze perhaps) can help me with a quick reply.

I bought the 32RV753 from a couple of weeks ago and like everything about the set but the viewing angle on mine is awful. If you sit dead center the picture is great but anywhere slightly off center and the drop in contrast and colour is noticeable. This happens even about 10degrees off centre. It is very bad for example if you have visitors as some one will be off center and get a poor picture.
I went back to John Lewis to check the display one and the viewing angle did seem poor compared to the other sets lined up next to it. I have contacted Toshiba who say that there shouldn'e be a drop iff in quality at any viewing angle and it sounds like a fault.
I wondered if any owners could check their Tv and see is they have a problem with this or how wide you can view from without a deteriorating picture.

If I sit in a different part of the room from my girlfriend,( it's not that we don't get on, just that I may be sitiing at the table!) we can't both have a good picture.
I am still within my John Lewis 28 day period ( just about) so hopefully could swap it for a new one, but if their display model was poor too then I am not sure if that would a good thing.

It is a great featured set for the money and the PQ is great when head on.

thanks in advance

Carl

Hello, I've been reading the posts here on the new Toshiba 32RV753 and have just bought one and I have to say for the money for it's a great buy and wouldn't you know it I paid £375 with free delivery from Laskys.com on Tuesday this week and the price is now down to £369 and even cheaper at £360 at Amazon.com, Oh well I'm more than happy with the set and that's what really matters.
Anyone concerned about the set being 50Hz should not be, I am watching the MotoGP qualifying as I write this and there is absolutely no motion blur at all and these bikes are not hanging around and even though it's a SD broadcast the ultra slow motion replays also look very crisp.

The EPG is nice and bright and covers 13 channels at once and reacts and updates very quickly and so far I have not had any "No data available" tags instead of programme details, the remote thankfully is very responsive and does not have to be aimed straight at the TV for it to work, I mention this because the remote for my DVD player has the response of a rock and is a real pain to use.

The USB port only plays photos but with my cheap (£50) Philips DVD player connected via HDMI and using a memory stick in it's USB port that little problem is solved and any format the DVD player can handle can be played on the TV.
My Xbox is connected via HDMI and Lara in Tomb Raider, Underworld looks spectacular especially the lighting and shadow effects, I don't have a PS3 but have connected my old PS2 which does not have a HDMI connection via the composite red, yellow, white connections which saves using a scart socket.
The only negative thing I have found is there is no "Return to previous program" button on the remote which is a bit infuriating when you are used to one and strangely the remote for the SL/WL models which are also covered in the user manual have this button, arghhhhh, I might just try to email Toshiba and try and find out if that remote will work with the 32RV753 or maybe they can make a firmware update to enable a button on the 32RV753 remote to be used if it's possible?

You can download the Toshiba manual from here which is more detailed than the manual that comes with the TV.

I've taken some photos of the side and rear connections and put them on my web space if anyone want's a close look as I couldn't find any decent pictures of them, I have put links to the photos rather than post them here as they are quite high resolution.

Rear connections.

Side connections.

Hi TheRedGuy,
I have checked the viewing angle and there is a slight reduction in overall brightness and loss of highlights but it does not sound anything like as bad as you have mentioned, I don't know if this is of any use to you for comparison but I have taken a photo of my screen with the set turned fully to the right on it's base and me standing to the left of the screen at about 50-60 degrees so probably a total angle of around 70 degrees, ignore the marks on the bottom left of the screen that's a reflection of a guitar.

Side view of screen photo.

cheers, BikeMike.

Hi BikeMike,

thanks for your reply.

I have checked out another couple in 2 different branches of John Lewis and they appear to be quite similar to mine, maybe I am expecting too much from LCD after moving from a CRT. I do think the TV is very good value for money and again watched head on ( which is how we would watch it anyway, i was just concerned that with guests round not everyone would get a satisfactory Picture quality), the picture is great. As you say I haven't noticed much motion blur and compared to some 100 hz sets I have seen it is better than some for sports. I have noticed a very slight judder on some scenes but nothing worse than on other sets.

It upscales SD pictures really well and this has impressed me about this TV in that the standard channels still look good, Occasional SD broadcasts almost look as good as HD.

Contrast seems good, nice colours, I second the point that the epg is excellent and like you, my cheap sony bluray player lets me play everything via it's usb port so no problems about the tv not having the ability to play movie files. In fact you can spend more to get a higher spec TV with the extra internet features and usb connections than if you spend £99 on a bluray player which gives you all this on top of bluray capabilty. Plus you end up duplicating lots of features.

I am going to keep the set, if it gets worse i've got the 5 yr guarantee so no problem.

Enjoy the Moto GP, shame about Rossi's injury this year.

Carl
