Really surprised by projected pricing, should be a great contender to Pana and Sammy's models

The HX903 features LED local dimming.

"Intelligent Dynamic LED backlighting – get a real cinematic feel with a full direct LED backlight that dynamically optimises the picture with a stunning GigaContrast for the whitest whites and blackest blacks within the same frame"

The HX703 does not.

The 46HX903 is rumoured to retail at around £2200. I will beleive that when I see it.

thanks Mr-Bananas! If its really going to cost £2200!! im glad with my decision because I wouldnt pay an extra 700 just for LED backlighting and some networking benefits.

Then again, im not sure it will cost quiet that much :S

£700 is a lot of money, but LED local dimming with be worth every penny.

Black levels will be ridiculous.

Hope that there will be some good AV reviews on both the Sony HX903 and the new Panasonic VT/V 20's.

As one of these looks to be my target for 2010.

But after manys years of sitting on the fence between the two formats it's still difficult to know which way to go?

I had made my mind up to get the new panasonic VT20 but because there is only a 50 and 65 inch being released in the UK, i am now looking at a 52 inch in these models. It would be good if there was more coverage on these sets as it seems that the panasonic range seems to be getting all the attention.

I agree.

The Panasonic threads on the new Plasmas, VT/V 20's, is about 500 now.

I am really supprised that there seems to be so little interst in the new Sony LX/HX 903's?

I still have a 36" CRT TV, which I feel provides a match for any SD picture from either a LCD or Plasma, but I really would like to get a larger screen this year.

I would prefer the lighter weight of the LCD, as it will have to be wall mounted and uses less power.

But since I watch a lot of sport, motorcyling etc, I want a screen that will have good motion handling.

Both formats still have their pros and cons, but I hope that with either the Sony LX/HX 903's or the Panasonic VT/V 20's that the gap will have narowed to the extent that either will provide good motion handling, acceptable blacks, and clear detailed bright screens.

So do hope that AF will do reviews on both, but all their intrest at the moment seems to be firmly on the Panasonic plasmas?

Well having been soooo disapointed with my Panny V10 Plasma, I may well go with one of these when funds allow

What have been the reasons for your disapointments with the V10, everybody seems to 'rave' it and it comes out with good reviews?

I suppose reviewing the HX903 depends on whether or not AVF can get a hold of one for review.

I dont think thats the only difference between HX703 and HX903. HX903 is 3d ready and HX703 is not.
so I guess thats the main reason for price diffrence.

not sure why HX800/HX803 is not on sony uk website

went to a Sony trade show today, see the 3D LCD in action, god dam its good, very surprised how clear and how much depth the picture had, see wipe-out motorstorm and superstardust hd psn game, had some under 21 international match on, very pleased the way the screen looks, it reminds me of sony little picture frame s-frame, infact its looks the same lol

The 903 uses direct LED backlighting as opposed to the ccfl backlighting on the 703. The 803 which is released in June is the same as the 903 but using edge LED backlighting.

Some price indications:

40HX800
52LX900

I sure hope the HX900 will be in-between these two.

I heard that they do, but we'll have to wait to know for sure.

Did you mean the 52HX900? There isn't a 52HX800, largest is 46" in that series. There's no price listed for either yet.

hmm, now I have to see what will come on the market here and what the prices are, as I seen the samsung C serie prices and they are just in one word expensive then the 50VT20 panasonic is a way better deal.

Am I right in thinking that the KDL-##HX903 is going to be the pick of the range if you aren't too bothered about 3d?

It would seem that the NX or LX don't have the full LED backlighting with localised dimming, only edge lighting, whereas, if I've read correctly, the HX903 series will have this feature.

Quite simply put, if the technology is implemented correctly, it will blow all other models out of the water in terms of PQ and black levels.

It'll be the only model to have this feature, and so probably Sony's best TV this year.

Edit: Finally, some price indications for the HX900. The prices are quite steep, but these are Japanese prices converted into dollars. Perhaps the actual prices will be much lower, as the links in a previous post of mine hinted at. The LX900 and the HX800 are also mentioned in this blog.

I've been reading that the 46HX903 will be around £2200, which I think is reasonable.
