Question Sony KDL-40Z4500 HDTVtest review?

Does anyone know if in HDTVtests review of the Sony KDL-40Z4500 are the input lag results in comparison to their Samsung F96?

Hi

IIRC all the TV lag figures are compared to their resident F96. The z4500 / 5500 appear to be very good in this regard, although as various people have said even the Samsungs with apparently high levels of input lag still play videogames with very little noticeable problems

Yes but these numbers are true numbers, not comaparison differenses:
"0-10ms in [Game Mode] or over VGA; 16-31ms otherwise"

Let me try and simplify this, has the Sony KDL-40Z4500 got less input lag when in game mode than the Samsung F96?

So in other words is "0-10ms in [Game Mode] or over VGA; 16-31ms otherwise" comparable with a CRT in actual fact?

Re: Sony KDL-40Z4500 HDTVtest review?

a bit faster or the same i think because g10 plasma was about 20ms faster than f96 and some user on finnish forum reported 10ms lag for g10. So f96 would then be about 30ms.

Edit: note that 30 ms is well low enough for gaming

Re: Sony KDL-40Z4500 HDTVtest review?

I think I've been able to answer my own question by reading reviews on HDTVtest since in their review of the Sony KDL-40W4000 they measure it to be 30ms faster than their Samsung F96. Then in their review of the Sony KDL-40W4500 they measure the input lag to be 0-10ms with game mode engaged which is then said to be comparable to the input lag on the Sony KDL-40W4000 in response to a question in the comments, "the input lag on the KDL40W4500 in [Game Mode] is equivalent to that on the W4000 series." Finally in their review of the Sony KDL-40Z4500 they measure the input lag to also be 0-10ms in game mode then this is said "the input lag we measured on the Sony KDL40Z4500 was typically 15-20ms lower than that on the W4500, even with [Motionflow] engaged. Of course, the playing field would be levelled if [Game/Text Mode] was activated: the input lag on both TVs would drop to a mouthwatering 0-10ms."

Re: Sony KDL-40Z4500 HDTVtest review?

My post here should be of interest to you.

The inherent problem with testing a panel against the F96 is that you never know what the latter is hitting. We know it averages 30 ms, but that doesn't mean another screen that beats it by 30 is at 0. You'd need to know the maximum ceiling on the F96 for that.

In reply to the earlier comment about 30 ms being acceptable for gaming, in my view it isn't for everyone. I have experience with screens in both the 0-20 and 30-45 range, and there's a very clear difference.

My lap times are slightly better on a quick panel in WipEout HD, although OutRun and GT5: Prologue are less affected (they're slower), and I can hit Just Frames far more reliably in Tekken 5: DR and Soulcalibur IV. I also find the challenges in Street Fighter IV much easier. An objective test only tells half the story: 0-20 feels sharper - it's a higher level of control.
