Does not play - MKV,MP4,MOV

Can play DIVX-XVID AVI (Some was laggy),
Can play MPG (Even 1080P, without any lag!)
Can play VOB (Checked only 720P)
WMV can only play some of them. didn't play official microsoft WMV HD, but played some of WMV 720P h264 files that i had on my pc .

I also must say that through USB Kingston datatraveler i had some lags in MPG 1080P, while through WI FI router network server that was connected to LCD and to my PC it was perfect streaming.

Wink Re: My Philips PFL8404H/12 lots of pictures and details!!

How is the input lag when you play fast games like Gears of War?

Philips has a bad Gaming reputation in the past you know.

I really like the design of this Philips TV, it is Philips PFL8404 46" or Sony KDL-Z4500 46" for me.

Really hope the Philips will perform exellent with everything you feed it with.

The Z4500 is one of the fastest there is when Gaming and a good performer with film to.

Sadly it is not so good at displaying SD materials.

How good is the Philips with SD?

Please I need your opinion about my questions.

Thanks man!

hi there thanks for posting all those pictures they look amazing hope your enjoying your new purchase what do think of the picture quality the 100hz hd natural with movies? some people have a problem with it i absolutely love it iam the type of person who loves smooth motion when it comes to watching movies with gaming i think the obvious thing to do would be to turn off hdnm as i think that it would have a negative effect would love to hear what you think of the picture quality in your opinion thanks again for the pics.

Looks like it stretches videos to fill the screen? Tropic Thunder and Watchmen should both have letterboxes.

Re: My Philips PFL8404H/12 lots of pictures and details!!

Hi,

Thanks for the pics - they certainly are very sharp but in all honesty it looks like the picture is set to dynamic/shop mode or colours set very high - the faces for example look deeply sun burnt and other scenes look very saturated. I think once you calibrate and/or apply less aggressive settings, it should look much more natural. Would be interested to see what some movies with dark scenes look like in a darkened room as well as regular SD TV broadcasts if possible! Feel free to increase the file size!

Suave!

Re: My Philips PFL8404H/12 lots of pictures and details!!

This model does not support PIP (Picture-In-Picture)? Is this true?

This is a very important feature for me.

Also it seems that this model consumes much more power than the competition (~220W vs. Sony's 150W, for example). Switching off ambilight probably reduces power consumption a little, but how much, that is a mystery...

I bet it does. My 9604 has no options to keep the AR intact while watching media files (in fact no settings during media playback are actually available).

Hi!

I'm trying to play HD videos in my 37" philips 8404. You say it can play .mpg at 1080p. Can u tell me video codec and the audio codec of this file? I'm using mkv2vob because it can save the mkv like a .mpg.

Thx!!!

Hey, nice set you have! I was wondering which settings you use and if you use the game mode for gaming? And these pictures you made from games in which mode was the tv when you made them?

You can change aspect ratio. Either choosing one manually or using the automatic one. Automatic can be configured to always fill-up the whole screen (eventually distorting the image), or just zoom as much as possible without distorting the image (in which case you can have black bars on the sides).

I've noticed that this TV has port 80 open. But when you try to connect, it just closes the connection. Maybe you must connect in some "special" way. Any ideas?

Audio + Video out of sync after 4 to 5 minutes trough USB

Hey there,

I've bought my Philips PFL 8404 like a week ago and i'm still figuring everything out ^^ I downloaded some HD movies and hooked my external hard drive to the TV.

Now the thing is after 4 to 5 minutes the audio and video get out of sync, It helps if i pause the movie, rewind it a sec and play again, but then after 4 to 5 minutes it happens again and this aint a nice way to watch a movie i can tell you

So my question to you guys and girls is, is there a way to fix this problem? I've updated the TV to the latest patch and i've been looking around the internet for solutions but cant find any i'm afraid so i'm turning to you ^^

Thanks in advance, and nice pictures btw i enjoyed them alot hehe. and thanks for letting us know wich types of video it can play etc.

sorry for being dumb but how do you do this?

also, i got my 8404 in December.
have there been any recent updates to NetTV?
I used it a bit when i got it but as it won't show iplayer or enable plugins to be downloaded that would allow viewing of streaming sports from sites such as iraqgoals i lost interest.
also, i cannot get the tv to add to my home network as neither it or the pc recognise each other even though the tv is wired into the wireless router.
