Best Picture Setting for Samsung LE32B450?

Hi,

Got this TV at weekend Samsung LE32B450 so looking for advice on the best picture setting from people that have it also? e.g. colour / brightness / sharpness etc.....

The picture and colours are great, but am looking to get the setting just right from ideas other people have on their sets.

Plus do you have the game mode set to on? for when using a PS3 or xBox, as i find the picture better without it on?

I do find however the red can look a bit orange. (mainly when playing fifa 09 and using team with red shirts)

Thanks

Re: Best Picture Setting for Samsung LE32B450?

not gonna put up my settings, because i'm still toying and finding different variations, but i dont bother with game mode, it's more for speeding up image processing time, so it's response time is better. Ideally for games, but i see image quality as more of a sacrifice and dont really notice the difference

Re: Best Picture Setting for Samsung LE32B450?

Anyone have some idealised settings yet? I am not at all gifted in this way and would really appreciate some guidance. I'm finding it really hard to get a decent level of luminescence without the contrast burning out bright spots and people's faces.

It's all the more frustrating for reading reviews of people praising the picture quality, I know it can look great but it isn't at the moment!

Yeah please post the HDMI setting for your PS3 so can see how they compared to mine.

Fiddling with the Red / Green / Blue etc setting on the TV does help with the orange / red issue. Think it under the picture setting option. Sorry cant remember exact without my TV in front of me lol.

Only have issue with picture for gaming and getting it just right. Colours / sharpness etc.. Blu ray films look great, TV not bad either.

Anyone got a wii also running on this TV through component? Setting?

Re: Best Picture Setting for Samsung LE32B450?

Try this,

Mode Standard: normal/high ambient Light
Backlight 7
Contrast 95
Brightness 45
Lower Sharpness 20
Colour 50
Tint G45/R55

Dynamic Contrast Off
Gamma 0
White Balance:
Red-Offset 10 G-Offset 25 Blue Offset 5
Red-Gain 10 G-Gain 25 Blue-Gain 5
Flesh Tone 0
Turn Off Edge Enhancement (adds anomalies)

Digital NR Auto (This can be turned Off in Game Mode/video source)
Film Mode Off/Auto when connecting SD Video source

Use same settings for Movie Mode: low ambient light
Lower Backlight 5

Change Colour Space Native (Warmer slightly innacurate Yellow/ Accurate Magenta)

Change Colour Tone Normal

In Game mode it may be necessary to reduce Backlight to a maximum of 5

Re: Best Picture Setting for Samsung LE32B450?

Game Mode automatically changes the Picture Mode to Standard and cannot be changed.

These are my current suggestions however if you dont need dynamic contrast ie. in a darkened room then turn off.

Mode Standard: normal/high ambient Light
Lower Backlight 7
Lower Contrast 80
Lower Brightness 44
Lower Sharpness 20
Lower Colour 45
Tint G44/R56

Dynamic Contrast Off/Low (Effective on bright sunny days)
White Balance:
R-Offset 20 G-Offset 35 B-Offset 20
R-Gain 20 G-Gain 35 B-Gain 20
Flesh -3
Turn Off Edge Enhancement (adds anomalies)

Turn Off Digital NR (Usually unnecessary may be useful in weak signal areas)

Use same settings for Movie Mode: low ambient light
Lower Backlight 5

Dynamic Contrast Off
Colour Space Native (Warmer slightly innacurate Yellow/ Accurate Magenta)

Change Colour Tone Normal

Film Mode Off/Auto when connecting SD Video source.

Re: Best Picture Setting for Samsung LE32B450?

These settings are my attempt at neutralising the white balance and are my new default settings which in my experience offer a more realistic appearance with less anomalies than the original default settings and should be equally effective in game mode.

Gamma 0
Colour space: Native
Colour tone: Warm 2

White Balance:
Red-Offset 35 G-Offset 25 Blue Offset 13

Like these settings, but without having access to the tint option (using RGB scart) reds are still a little orange, any suggestion of how to compensate without the tint?

i have not used the RGB scart , are you saying you cant change the tint even in movie mode ?
what you could do is go into the service menu and then into advanced then to WB movie mode , turn that on and then you have acess to the tint on that page.

An easier method would be to increase the fleshtone which increases reds in places and also the offset and gain of red you could turn up. but your quality will be lost using this method.

May i ask why your using RGB scart ?

Re: Best Picture Setting for Samsung LE32B450?

White balance controls:
Can anyone confirm whether increasing the gain control actually increase that colour or decreases the colour intensity. Just that some Tvs work one way, others work the other.

Increasing the gamma control actually lowers the overall gamma.

The HDTVtest review of this set published the colour, gamma and white balance charts before and after calibration. They used Movie mode/warm2 as their starting point (closest picture mode to D65).
They observed that, out of the box,
1. gamma was too high , 2.55
2. white balance low end was pretty good, but high end (gain) was over saturated with red (110%) and under in blue (90%).

Re: Best Picture Setting for Samsung LE32B450?

Where did you get those figures from ? at no point in the hdtv review to they talk about the gain or offset, if you are talking about the pictures , on what picture does it show the red to be 110% and blue to be 90% ?

In one picture it shows the red to be 60% at low level and the blue to be over 140%, and green 100%

Re: Best Picture Setting for Samsung LE32B450?

We are using scart from the sky plus box - not got HD yet so its our only option - I dont think they have component outputs.

R G B gains and offsets only affect the greyscale I thought?

I have actually found that Movie mode is best.

If you can change the tint using a scart by accessing the service menu that would fix it for me.

How do you access the service menu on the tele?

I have turned the tint way upto to R90 and this has fixed the red football shirts from being orangey to a more true life red colour.

I'm reading off the greyscale chart at 80% level (gain). The offset is the 30% values.

Hi, Movie mode and warm2 is closest to the D65 greyscale standard (see HDTVtest review). When calibrating you would normally set the brightness and contrast first, then fix the greyscale, and then adjust with any colour options.

Yes, the RGB gain and offset is for adjusting the greyscale (or white balance as it's also called).

I've also upped gamma to +1

Using the Tint control you can get one colour spot on (eg red football shirts) but at the expense of another colour. In HDTVtest chart after calibration, the red is spot on, but yellow is not quite correct. But the tint control is all you have got to adjust with in the absence of a full CMS colour calibrating tool.
Still what do you expect for £320!!

Some SKY boxes do, and there is an SCART RGB converter to component.
