Sony KDL32D3000 Xbox 360 Motion Blur

Hi everyone,

I just got the Sony KDL32D3000 because I heard it was great for TV, movies and gaming and yet on starting up Bioshock on my Xbox 360 Elite via HDMI I was shocked by the awful blurring as soon as you turn your character. I've tried every type of motion enhancer and the game mode and they make no difference in fact there's no difference with motion enhancer on or off, same with the game mode. I've turned off all the unnecessary noise reduction things and anything that could affect the picture like auto contrast. I've tried changing every setting and yet as soon as I move in the game the image goes from pin sharp to a blur and there's even ghosting. And it blurs even if I'm barely moving the character. I've tried it on a number of games and it's the same. Although I've yet to see blur on a film or TV.

This is especially noticeable because I had a Panasonic TX32LXD70 and the motion handling on that was perfect. No blur on games or anything. The image was sharp however you moved. Unfortunately that TV developed a fault (clouding) and I sent it back. So I thought I'd try the Sony but it's no where near as good as the Panasonic.

I'm just wondering if this is the case with all televisions of this model? Have I got a duff one where the motion enhancer doesn't work? Or is this particular model simply poor for gaming. I'd especially like to hear from Xbox owners because I've heard this is the console that seems to be affected the most.

Thanks.

Re: Sony KDL32D3000 Xbox 360 Motion Blur

Hi phun_cundy,

I'm in the same boat as you, i also bought this tv and connected it to my elite via hdmi and have noticed all sorts of blurring on almost every game i play and it is very frustrating as i have spent almost £1000 for the tv and my elite for my bedroom, and this is alot of moeny for me.

I read all the reviews and looked at loads of comments on the board and felt that the sony was the best tv out there which is why i purchased it. Would i be allowed to send this back to amazon as i find the quality highly unacceptable. Or have i just not put the right settings in as i've spent hours changing the settings but these dont seem to help.

I have also changed different display options on my elite and tried 720p, 1080i, 1080p and also optimal resolution and i find them all appalling

Regards,

Ahmed_uk

Re: Sony KDL32D3000 Xbox 360 Motion Blur

To both of the above comments:

I have the 32D3000 and used VGA with my original Core model. No blurring at all and a very nice picture.

Recently bought the Halo 3 L.E Console, connected via HDMI and there was noticable blurring, especially with dark colours onto light backgrounds.

Switched the cable back to VGA and blurring has gone, so no problem there for me. Luckily, I'm more than happy with the VGA picture, and the purchase of the Halo 3 console was not for the HDMI input, so I haven't wasted money on something I wont use...

Would be interesting to find out how many people with a 360 connected via HDMI have this problem...

I have no blurring on freeview or upscaled DVD, so overall I am very pleased

Re: Sony KDL32D3000 Xbox 360 Motion Blur

Hi everyone,

I will be sending my TV back to Amazon. I only received it yesterday therefore it's within the 7 days cooling off period which means I should get a refund minus the shipping costs back to Amazon.

But even beyond this period, it's not acceptable that the TV cannot display the Xbox over HDMI properly. And therefore I think that means that the TV is not fit for purpose.

So Ahmed_uk, if you're over the 7 days return period, then try contacting consumer direct to help you sort the problem out. You may have to use the trading standards act against amazon to get a refund on the TV. If you're within 6 months then it's up to Amazon to prove that there isn't an inherent fault with the TV which of course there is.

I hope that people who are thinking about purchasing a new TV see this thread because this TV is wholly unsuitable for use with an Xbox HDMI connection and they should look elsewhere. The whole point about HDMI is to get the highest quality connection from your Xbox to your TV and you're not getting it with the Sony KDL32D3000. Which is, in my opinion shameful. It's almost as if Sony don't want their rivals console to work properly on their TVs.

I hope other people can add to this thread so we can let people know about this issue and save them the trouble of finding it out themselves.

Re: Sony KDL32D3000 Xbox 360 Motion Blur

I have had mine just over a week but they have a 30 day money back guarantee which i should be able to return it with, ordered mine on the 3rd november and actually got it on the 6th or 7th november.

To be honest i even tried it just a few minutes ago with the VGA lead and found it more or less the same, pro ev0 2008 judders like crazy and seems to get blurred when i'm playing really fast football, rainbox 6 vegas openin scene is almost unwatchable as its so blurry, just cause is just blur central!!! the slightest movement and you cant see anything but a big massive blur on the screen.

Re: Sony KDL32D3000 Xbox 360 Motion Blur

It's pretty bad. The Panasonic tx32lxd70 was so much nicer (until the fault occurred) although I do prefer the black levels on the Sony and the manual backlight feature. Although all that counts for nothing if you can't play your Xbox properly. Disgraceful.

By the way Ahmed_uk I believe larger items such as televisions are actually under a 14 day returns policy. You should phone amazon to confirm that and if you're not happy (which you shouldn't be) then I would get the returns process started as soon as possible.

I may phone Sony tomorrow and enquire if they know of this problem and if there are any fixes available, I doubt there are, so I'll probably be contacting amazon to sort out a pick up of the television.

Is this also a problem with the ps3 or is it just with the xbox?

Re: Sony KDL32D3000 Xbox 360 Motion Blur

This is not a problem with HDMI on this set (at least in my experience) i notice really bad smearing and bluring on all inputs from all sources (esp freeview and even dvd).

I believe i have a particularly bad case but the response time on this telly is crap IMO.

Re: Sony KDL32D3000 Xbox 360 Motion Blur

I had a look at the amazon site regarding 14 days for large items and its actually 14 days from when you have recieved the item. I got mine on wednesday so its been a week and i've just packed it up and am arrangin a courier to pick it up.

I will also send an email to amazon regarding my experience with this tv and that i intend to return it as in my opinion it is faulty as it cant even cope with HD gaming which was the sole reason i purchased this set.

Well, this motion blur can't be any worse than their old TV's and their old TV's were/are impressive with motion handling.

Re: Sony KDL32D3000 Xbox 360 Motion Blur

No they are not. I have the 40X2000 eg. and while I read everywhere that motion handling was good and ghosting negligible, in truth this set (the 40X2000) has some of the worst pixel smearing I have ever seen, and that's including my very old - and cheap - 25rms LCD. If you only watch TV and movies it isn't so bad. But anyone who's a console gamer should think twice because everytime you move, all the blacks or dark area's smear, absorbing lighter detail, resulting in a overall picture with unstable brightness level: darkening as you move/look around, brightening up once you stop. Most annoying.

Re: Sony KDL32D3000 Xbox 360 Motion Blur

That's exactly what happens with the KDL32D3000 - the darkening when you move about in videogames.

I thought Sony were supposed to be one of the top brands. But having been able to compare the Bravia with the Viera I can say the Panasonic is streets ahead. Although my Panasonic had a fault which has put me off that slightly. But I'd be more likely to go with a Panasonic in the future than a Sony.

Now if only Panny could add a manual backlight in the user menu to sort out their slightly disappointing black levels.

Re: Sony KDL32D3000 Xbox 360 Motion Blur

Yes thats what happens all the time with me, anytime you move fast the screen just blur's and becomes unviewable but once you stop the picture is stunning...not exactly a great combo for a gaming environment.

I'm just glad i got the elite on monday and had a couple days to find out this major flaw in the tv last night, the couriers are picking it up today and now i'm looking for an email address for amazon as i cant seem to find one. Anybody got there customer services email address?

As in the returns box which i filled out for defective product i only had 200 characters to use so couldnt fill out a detailed description of the problems i encountered.
