Just brought a Dell Studio 1735 Dell Studio 17 Laptop Details Paid just under £600 for it.

I got myself a Samsung R700 a few weeks ago and it's been brilliant. Not a single crash, trouble or problem, good to look at and decent battery life for a 17" screener.

Spec is a Dual Core T8100 , 3gb Ram , 320GB Hard drive, 17" widescreen, Geforce 8400M GS and can be had for £539 at dabs.com in a recent offer.

Can also get them from laptopsdirect for under £600.

I've just got an acer 5930G from John Lewis which has all that, a nvidia 9600m with 512M RAM plus 3 gig system ram and 2 years gaurentee for £599. Probably get it cheaper online but I wanted to use a shop.

My wife got a Samsung R700 a few weeks ago and it's been great. Got it from John Lewis and signed up for the 0% for 6 months store card at the same time, so we can pay £100 a month with no setup fees
