Been advised to seek advice in this thread. I'm looking for something with an SSD, the machine will be used for Photoshop and video editing. Any suggestions? Preferably below 500.

Cheers

Video editing will require a reasonably sized SSD - I would of thought you would need at least 128GB which would be £160+ just for the SSD. You are better off just getting a decent laptop with a regular 7200rpm hard drive.

The L502xs in the outlet store look delicious.

I'm all set to get one but have to wonder...

How long do you think it will be before the 15z starts appearing in the outlet store? :D

Cheers. I was thinking 1-2 months based on the L502xs.

That said, the 15zs seem to be more immediately available than the 502s did when they first appeared - I recall them having a 20 day lead time etc.

I did post this in the part 1 thread but it was locked soon after for the part 2 so apologies for the repost.

Hi guys/gals.

Made this account just so I could post a couple of questions for those of you who seem to have more expertise regarding the Outlet

I bought one of the L702x's that appeared on the outlet a few days back for about £500 main specs:

XPS L702x
Graphics : 3GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M Graphics Card
Processor : Intel Core i5-2400(3.10GHz,6MB L3 Cache,4C)
Display : 17.3in HD+ WLED True-Life (1600x900)
4GB RAM 2X2GB
Hard Drive : 500GB 2.5inch Serial ATA II (7.200 Rpm) Hard Drive
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64 BIT)
Certified Refurbished

Firstly do you think I get an alright deal? (in fact regardless of how much money it saved buying from the Outlet I'm going be happy as it's replacing a cruddy Toshiba with integrated graphics )

Secondly as you can see above the specs state Intel Core i5-2400(3.10GHz,6MB L3 Cache,4C) however I had a little look around and can't find any L702x's with a 3.10GHz i5 (it's not even an option when buying brand new). I'm starting to suspect this is a mistake and should read a lower GHz (2.1 maybe?). Anyone have an opinion on this?

Thirdly I recieved an invoice by email that stated some of the specs in the description. It reads:

XPS L702x - 0Ghz - 500.00Gb HD - 4000.00Mb Mem - -

Hopefully I won't receive something with no processor haha! Anyone had any experience of dodgy descriptions?

Lastly what happens if you miss the delivery? I've been told they will arrive anywhere between 8am and 6pm but I work full time and knowing my luck I'll miss the damn thing Do they leave a card for redelivery or is there some depot they hold it at?

Looking forward to receiving it on (hopefully) Tuesday and finally being able to play a half decent game above 15 FPS

Thanks to anyone in advance if they can answer any of these questions and good luck with your Outlet hunting!!

N.B. Apologies if any of these questions have already been answered, I looked through the majority of this thread but couldn't really find a pinpoint answer.

Yep i had some reet bargains in my basket last night. an i7 500 gb hard drive 9 cell battery for 468 delivered. and an i5 9 cell 640 gb hard drive for 397 delivered. both with the newer nvidea gt550m gfx card.

There were loads and loads and when i woke up this morning the above deals had gone but there were still loads of others left. The idea that you have to be quick is a bit off if you ask me cos you dont really. The machines they released yesterday were floating around for a good 12-24 hours. All gone now though

Decided not to buy any though in the end cos what i really want is the 15z and i can still afford to wait. Thing is though i could have probably bought either of those systems and made a quick hundred quid just throwing it on ebay where they seem to go for silly money. At the end of the day i would regret buying a 502 when i know i can get the 15z although i do actually regret not buying the i7 deal which was just so good it shouldnt have been passed up. oh well they will return again as they always do and its been an expensive week already.

seems like a pretty good buy to me IMHO,

in terms of delivery, while I haven't missed a delivery from them, I'd imagine that the courier would arrange a re-delivery (the usual 'you were out' card etc)

What sort of prices do you think we'll see for the 15z on the outlet?

I'd guess it's typically about 30% savings on the xps 501/2s?

Not sure but that i7 system must have been worth new at least 800 quid so nearly half price. I reckon the 15z will start showing up at the same sort of price so anywhere between 4 to 5 hundred quid. Probably have to wait a while a few weeks or so but as i said i aint in any rush.

I think the savings relate directly to the manufacturing cost and not the retail price which is why systems with larger margins look particularly cheap on the Outlet.
The Adamo didn’t seem to make it to the Outlet but I figure the XPS 15z will.

People have probably posted this before, so sorry in advance

What sort of condition do the 'certified refurbished' laptops come in?

There's got to be a reason why they are so cheap lol.

You get a box of bits, a screwdriver, a service manual IKEA style and some lucky heather (or now the Polish equivalent) and away you go.
If you are really lucky they’ll also have included some blu-tack to help with the trickier bits.

So to recap, they are generally very good.

Certified refurbished from prior experience has been in very excellent condition, in the few cases either near new (I couldn't tell) or the worse case was a slight mark on the lid. With 'scratch and dent', the worst I've seen is a couple of scratches on the lid

Lots of L502x's were up on the Outlet store over the weekend, picked one up with an i7-2630QM, 500GB HD, 2GB 540M for just over £500, cert refurb.

Actually ordered 2 as bought another with a bigger 9 cell battery, so just need to decide whether to send one back for a refund or sell it on ... judging by how much they sell for brand new I should be able to get back what I paid for it and avoid the return, hopefully!

Yes, I nearly jumped for one of them too, but you know...what with the 15z's being just a few weeks away...

14"

Hi
Does the Dell outlet store get many 13.3" or 14" laptops? I'm looking for a at least i3 with at least 2GB RAM prefer 3-4GB and hard disk doesn't matter. I would prefer a dedicated graphics card.

Up to £500 with VAT and Del.

I was just looking at a XPS 13 but it has a Core 2 Duo so that puts me off.

There is a Inspiron 4030 but that has no dedicated graphics.

Also what are the differences regarding prices when there is like 5 of the same model? Is the cheapest the most damage/scratches?

maybe 'just' an i5 but remember it is a SB i5 so does pack quite a punch; £477 is a very good buy
