Aldi are offering this for £499 :

What does everyone think ? The processor may be a bit on the light side, but the other specs look pretty good, and the 3 Year Warranty is worth having.

I'm looking for a laptop for home for around about £500, so if anyone wants to recommend an alternative for around the same price, I'd happily take a look.

Not bothered about gaming, so doesn't have to be fantastic graphically.

looks about average. I would think you can get better. Have you looked at the tried and trusted dell? They usually have some kind of offer going.

IMHO I always stick to Toshiba's, never had any problems with the hardware, the customer service has been excellent and so has obtaining drivers/firmware etc. I'd also like to stick to places that deal with computers and equipment day in and day out, not just somewhere that sells the odd machine or piece of hardware.

Bought a medion celeron for my daughter about 3 years ago and never had a problem with it.
Have just priced a dell inspirion 1525 with exactly the same spec (processor memory 3yr guarantee etc ) and it comes out at £646.21 which does not include the nvidia ge force 9300m g which is the very latest card and cant even find a
price for any where on the net! The nearest nvvidia card is the 8400 which adds £50 to the above price =£696.21.
Also of note is the fact the medion comes with an HDMI socket which the DELL does not ,in fact its the cheapest laptop ive seen with HDMI.
So all in all looks a pretty decent buy to me.
Only problem you may have is actually getting one as Aldis seem to get about a dozen in which have usually gone by 11.00am same day.

I might have a drive to one of the local Aldi's later in the week, see if they've
got any in.
