Has the novelty worn off or is it just me?

I think it might be due to my killzone 2 overdose, although I overdosed on gears of war (the original as the 2nd is crap online) for over a year and still kept coming back for more, either way I just don't feel the need to go back to killzone.

Is anyone else the same?

Have you gone back to playing another game, or has a new release taken your attention away?

I'm not starting a thread to slag off the game or the people that like it and are still playing. (and it's not an invitation for the trolls either )

I just wondered if I was alone.

When I first played it I was giving it "This game is quality I'll be playing this one for time"

Fast forward a week and my disc is sat in it's nice metal collectors box

Re: Has the novelty worn off or is it just me?

Bought this game as I was caught up in all the hype. Played it a few times, found it difficult with the controls but changed the settings and found it alot better. However, I am finding it really difficult to be able to get myself into the game, find the dialogue irritating for some reason. Online I find it too chaotic to enjoy it. Within a couple of days I drifted straight back to Call of Duty and Battlefield.
I've got my days off to look forward to now, so I am going to give it another chance and try to like it, am worried that it will turn into MGS4(which I also dislike) and be left on the shelf
I also cancelled my copy of Resident Evil because when I downloaded the demo I was really disappointed with the controls.

I remember I started off with 32 player matches, it was ridiculous, it was madness on most of the maps.

Joining smaller games makes a big difference.

I hated the demo, but still bought the game.

I loved it and now it's doing my nut in, more cheapness than a 50p hooker, and the real time inventory makes about as much sense as a glass nail.

I was playing it on co-op tonight and I had to turn it off.

I know I will probably be flamed for saying this but I have really wanted to like Killzone but it doesn't come close to the atmosphere of COD4/waw or Bad Company. I know they are set in different scenarios but Killzone did not hook me like COD. I also go online and play Quantam of Solace which has mediocre graphics but I still enjoy it because its simple old school shoot em up. What is it about me nowadays, we've got these powerful new gen gaming consoles and I still pick fault
Like I said before, I will give Killzone another go this week and hope that I haven't wasted £30

Re: Has the novelty worn off or is it just me?

I think i overdosed on it in the first week and basically killed all the fun in the game, went on single player last night to do some trophy whoring for about 20 minutes but still didn't have the appetite to play it for any longer, but hoping given a few weeks and the appetite will return.

Re: Has the novelty worn off or is it just me?

I like KZ2 still, it's just the idiots online that spoiler it. Similarly i liked Gears 1, but being grenade tagged over and over, plus that that where they down you over and over annoyed me.

I think smaller games with no idiots and KZ2 rocks!

Re: Has the novelty worn off or is it just me?

I wasn't exactly bowled over by it. I think I have realised that graphics don't really do that much for me and a solid game is my main bag. I might get flamed for this but I honestly think that I liked the original Resistance (FOM) far more. I do think that there will be a lot of other games to come from this game in the future though. It's probably the ultimate insult but me and a mate switched it off the other night and played 2 hrs of magicball instead!!

But to answer the question, yes! The novelty wore off pretty quickly for me. Maybe you can try to be too realistic in a game? After all no-one that is sane would enjoy being in a real battle.

Ha ha i'll still get it i think. Just when the price has gone down.

I love killzone. I'm never bloody off it. I've almost racked up 4 days online with it.
I can tell the novelty has worn off for many tho as just the AVF numbers are well down never mind the European numbers.

I'm still to try the single player yet so when i can drag my fat backside off the online for a bit. I can give that a go.

TBH tho i think GG could have drawn out the rank system as alot of people will get to general quite quick compared to the ranking system of COD games. and think there aint nothing much to play for now. And thats when ity can get boring for some.

Re: Has the novelty worn off or is it just me?

I'm still totally addicted to the game, loving all elements of it, taking time off ths week from online stuff to sit and play through the single player campaign.

I've got COD4 since release, but never played it much online and thus all this online BC and Warzone stuff is fairly new to me on. (played more online PC games in the past)

I guess I will get bored eventually, but as a game and it's value for money, I reckon I'll be playing it for a few months more, maybe not as much as a game like GT5P, which has been in my PS3 for almost 18 months now.

I reckon you should rate the game as to whether it's good value for money? for me, 30+ hours in, I've probably got at least another 75 hours left in it for.

Some games will get 4 or 5 hours at most, Ferrari Challenge, GRID don't rate very highly in this respect

Like others on here I just couldn't get into it. I paid £30 for it and traded it in for £25. I think I got a fiver's worth from it...

Re: Has the novelty worn off or is it just me?

I still really like it, but i only manage to grab an hour or two at different times of the day, on different days, what with a wife giving me evils, and kids to keep happy!

Managed to rank up but now want to try and achieve ribbons etc, so its gonna keep me busy for a long time, makes me laugh though, even though i got my ranks, i still can't hit a barn door!

And with the ringing of "Eat it", and "Teabag for you" in my ears. some of the online games will keep me coming back for more (big) belly laughs!

I've hardly played the campaign, only on level 3 i think, but playing MP with other people who like a laugh as well makes all the difference to me, i can go into random rooms and have a shoot up, or when they are on i can go into certain rooms and have a right good laugh, that will keep me coming back for a long time.

I have to agree.

i'm currently going through the SP on VETERAN. Also i have clocked up 30hrs online. there hasn't been a game out yet that has stayed in my PS3 for months, like i know other ppl do which in away is cheaper as i'm buying a new game almost every month. If it wasn't for the great laugh i have with the ppl from AVF K-ZONE, after the SP is done i don't think i would bother.

It will be a game i'll keep coming back to just not one i will play to death.

Re: Has the novelty worn off or is it just me?

I was working at the weekend so it didn't get a look. We hammered it that first week (you played it even more then me!!!) 60-70 hours gametime notched in just over a week is probably a bit much. I have been distracted by Resident Evil 5 this week which I have enjoyed massively but its only gonna last a week, I don't see any reason to play it through more then 3 times.

Killzone 2 won't be sold by me anytime soon, its one of those games I wanna go back to have a blast on every so often. I still have a yearning to get some assassination games going etc and I quite fancy trying to win a few clan games.

I agree, the games with randoms get a bit annoying but the games with people from AVF tend to be played properly with people going for objectives rather than every game turning into a deathmatch and because of this I'm not bored in the slightest yet.

GG need to bring more game modes, maps, maybe even weapons out sooner ratherthan later though as it will start getting a bit samey soon perhaps.

Luckily GG so far and seem will be in the future a very good developer at listening to comments and expanding the game to please the customers.

Re: Has the novelty worn off or is it just me?

The novelty has kind of worn off...I put that down partly to playing it solidly online for the first two weeks. I've been through the single player twice and put in over 2 days online and have really enjoyed it but I have found myself getting a little bored of the online a lot quicker than I would have expected and usually do.

I still enjoy smaller games online with people on my friends list but, where once I was enjoying the hecticness of big online games, now they just irritate me.

I've not moved onto any other online game but found myself going through the single player of Battlefield after a long time away from it over the weekend instead of going online with KZ.

Re: Has the novelty worn off or is it just me?

I'm actually enjoying this game more than i did in the first couple of weeks.

Probably due to that i kinda know what i'm doing in all the gamemodes and also becoming more familiar with most of the maps.

Its still the game that i think about playing when i'm not playing it.

+1

Very true, I'm still reading about tactics and unlocking ribbons on the net whilst at work very sad I know, but I like looking at the numbers and things needed to be done on the web site, it gives the game another dimension.

Re: Has the novelty worn off or is it just me?

To be honest, I never got into it.. I struggled on for the first week, but eventually caved in and went back to COD, which I IMMEDIATLY loved again.

I have never felt the urge to put KZ back in.

A number of my colleagues have sold their copies on.. But I kept mine as I am interesting to see how the DLC/Patches develop.. But this post has got me questioning "whats the point".. If its anything like LBP, it will be £12 in 3 months time.

So I have listed mine on Ebay for now... And will then buy it again IF there are any major developments in the game (or I find it cheap)....

Its a shame.. But this just wasn't for me

Re: Has the novelty worn off or is it just me?

When i first got it i thought WOW, but my enthusiasm has slowly dwindled.

To be honest this has happened with every online shooter since cod4, even though in my opinion, this is a better game. I tend to get bored very quicky with ps3 games, probably beacause i play mostly online shooters. Even though they are all different, the idea is the same, run aound for 10 minutes trying to kill more than you are killed, sometimes plant a bomb or grab a speaker/flag etc.... I think that online game modes need to move on to more lengthy objectives, beacuse if you think about it, we've been playing the same modes for the past 15 years...
I have realised that i am playing ps3 games alot less 'hours per game' than i did the ps2, i think this is beacuase i have less time to play so always tend to jump in to multi-player, which is more instantly gratifying that the single player 'story', but ultimatly more shallow, hence getting bored and moving onto the next game for my fix...

Please Codemasters, stick to the original formula....

Re: Has the novelty worn off or is it just me?

Well I gave up on the game as I've mentioned in a number of other threads and although giving up on something is somewhat a negative, I like to think that I am explaining my reasons for dissatisfaction and actually provide positives on the game.

The game is good, it has great graphics and sound and some truly excellent immersive gameplay. However, I personally found it very samey and somewhat predictable with regards to the online play. I played online for 14 odd hours online and really tried to persevere but alas, it just wasn't something that I enjoyed.

This has nothing to do with my ability at FPS games, this has nothing to do with whether or not I prefer *insert game name here*, nothing even to do with the controls. I just found it quite boring and after the initial overwhelming sights, sounds and frantic action......................It stopped being exciting and became somewhat laborious.

I don't know but whilst playing KZ2, I didn't find it frustrating when I got killed, I didn't feel anything when I killed someone.

In the end I sold it, purchased RE5 which I am enjoying immensly, I occasionally play on COD, Dead Space and FIFA and will be buying Red Alert 3 when it it released later this month so as you can see, I am open minded with what I play and am not bashing what is a decent game, just not my cup of Carling!

Re: Has the novelty worn off or is it just me?

I tried to like it, but it's just not a game for me. I can see the appeal to some people, but it didn't really deliver what I was expecting. Think i'll be trading it in for something else.

Re: Has the novelty worn off or is it just me?

i think everyone was so excited for this and hyped for it that once it came along it got cained . . . Big time.

Now a few weeks on people have reached top rank (which is far too easy) and played it ALOT.

So some people are now a bit like meh now what?

I think problem is, is the game with randoms, i was in a 32 player match last night and it lasted for 50 minutes. I couldnt wait for it to end . There was no communication and it was too hectic.
Main problems about big games is battles turn into an explosion fest and it all happens in one little part of the map usually, then it turns into spawn, shot grenade, die etc etc and it isnt enjoyable.
Were as battlefield games which are big team games have lots of little individual battles going on even when playing with randoms. I basically kept going on in that game as i knew i had a few ribbons.

However i do think killzone 2 is a great game and online i think is very polished and classes are great, all well matched i feel and the perks are great.
Only bad thing is some of objectives could be done better much prefer the search and destroy to be done like cod's style.

I look forward to playing it tonight never the less and i think about the game when im not playing it!!

Going to try play more smaller matchs 14-16players maybe even with randoms that will be cool

Playing with avf guys is always great

You know what chalky I was like yeah it's quality but I played co-op last night after messaging you and it done my nut in.

Pure frustration and cheapness, I think what I like about it is the co-op as I love playing co-op in games.

I ain't got my avf username for nothing

Edit: I must say that it's nice to see people able to give their opinons without it turning to arguments etc, keep it up

You may have a point there, I'm proper quality at it, I mean everytime I'd play people wouldn't shut up in the lobby.

"Wow jay you are quality!"

"Jay do you think I'll ever be good as you"

"Jay can you teach me"

"Jay thanks for making me EAT IT"

Maybe I'm bored becasue I'm so classy at the game and all of you (you in particular dan) ain't as classy and oozing silk around the maps like me
