Is using the rocket launcher cheap?

Just read a thread and saw this:

Now I've seen a lot of people mention it, but I don't get why?

To me if something is legit in a game it's not cheap.

It was a similar story with gears of war, I used the chainsaw all the time and I was good with it, I'd get people mouthing off, and for some reason they hated it.

In gears of war it's even more surprising as everyone has a chainsaw and are free to use it.

Back to killzone 2 though, I could understand someone getting frustrated if they are starting out and haven't ranked up enough to unlock the rocket launchers but for everyone else could you please enlighten me as to why it's "cheap"?

You still need skill to use it properly, yeah fair enough if someone is standing there like a lemon while you sneak up behind them, and you've got the launcher it's a guaranteed kill, but that's the same with every weapon when you catch someone unaware.

To me what is cheap is when I re-spawn and someone blows me away with a shotgun before I've had a chance to move which happens a fair bit in killzone 2.

Is calling the rocket launcher cheap just an excuse for when you get killed?

I'd say that any muppet can blast a rocket into a corridor with 5 enemies and kill them, or even get a load of kills (and deaths) by shooting the rockets at point blank range and killing yourself in the process, but it takes skill to rack up 40 kills and 2 deaths with the rocket launcher don't it?

Either way I think the good players can avoid getting killed, in the same way the good gears players could blast you as you revved your chainsaw.

Ok so Ive killed you 3 times with my rocket launcher and by this time I'm as cheap as a penny sweet, but you then try your luck again and I finish you with my pistol and then tea bag you for good measure, am I still cheap or are you just mad because you ain't as good as me

Re: Is using the rocket launcher cheap?

wow i remember when this used to get mentioned in socom2 along with the iw80.

Personally i dont use noontubes ( i dot call them noontubes, its more a name that stuck, more than i think noobs use hem :s) lol, i prefer the standard assault rifle in KZ.

As for them being cheap they dont bother me either the standard assult rifle can fire back a lot quicker.

i just remember a game quote.

"EA Sports, its in the game" Have been known to say that when peeps online start whining.

Re: Is using the rocket launcher cheap?

Yes I can hear the conversation just before D-Day.

"Well the Germans have only got machine guns and a few tanks. Lets make this one shotguns only to keep the peace"

Get over it all you on-line wannabe rule makers!

For the record:

Yes. I use Jugganaut
Yes. I sometimes use the noob tube and I love that phrase. It's not an insult it's a badge of honour
Yes. If I know where you are going to spawn I'll find you and pop your clogs (if I can hit you)
Yes. I'd slip some radioactive poison in your 'coffemochachino' if I thought it'd get me a kill (online only of course)

Adapt and survive.

I know why don't we all play scissors, paper, stone to determine the winner. That's fair.

p.s. If anyone needs any tips r.e. when I've got the noob tube my advice would be to stand totally still as I can't hit a barn door with it but have an uncanny knack of missfiring in the exact same direction as the other player decides to run for cover. Madness / Genious. Who knows?

Re: Is using the rocket launcher cheap?

Human nature to moan when things aren't going your way. I got owned by the class in question a few times last night, I just rolled out my own assault class and stuck a rocket in the ISA spawn point......KABOOM......3 kills for Stevie I don't doubt the Euros on the otherside swore at me in a ton of different languages. JOHNNY BOVVERED
Its a balanced class, you only get 6 rockets IIRC so its not like you are some kind of Rocket Wielding demi-god. As you discovered Jay, if some kind team player repairs an ammo dump and you setup a little campspot nearby then you do essentially have unlimited rockets, eitherway you run the risk of being sniped from another map away (some lads are demons with the sniper rifle !). IMHO if you have top rank you can play anyway you want.....you earned it after all !

lol ! Well said. The noob tube in KZ2 is actually a very difficult gun to wield. The grenades actually can be bounced quite a distance and tend to arm a few seconds after first hitting something.

Re: Is using the rocket launcher cheap?

The only thing that annoys me about the rocket launcher is that i am too crap to have one yet! Although i have noticed a lot of the time even if i am playing a game against "my rank only" that i still seem to get blasted to oblivion with the rocket launcher.

I will persevere and when i finally do get the rocket launcher i suspect my kills (and more likely my suicides) will go up!!

Sounds impressive Jay I unlocked the launcher and tried it for a bit - but I might as well have been blindfolded for all the good it did me If you're good at it, use it at will (just not in clan matches against the ogc though )

Of course it's cheap

Until I rank up enough to use one, of course, when it will become an act of tactical genius

Re: Is using the rocket launcher cheap?

I don't have the rocket launcher yet But I'm looking forward to getting it I think it probably suits my frantic run-n-gun hipshooting style, to be honest. My aiming is normally there or thereabouts, but I don't have the l33t skillz of some players - it means the rocket's splash damage is perfect for someone like me, who's not too precise with the old aiming

I have my turrets though. I'm just concerned that, as I haven't been able to get on much this week and am still just a Lieutenant, I'm going to get destroyed by people with grenade launchers and rockets when I do jump back on...

And I can't remember anyone calling the boomshot cheap in Gears of War.

In gears it was the chainsaw that would **** people off.

But if anything the boomshot was easier than the rocket launcher in killzone as it had some serious splash damage.

Re: Is using the rocket launcher cheap?

People will allways moan about rocket launchers and grenade launchers it's just the way of things the grenade launcher is crap up close anyway and the rocket launcher is just as dangerous to the person firing it as the person it's being fired at, so don't really see the problem....

Why were people getting annoyed?

In my opinion the invisible sniper and the guy that changes into one of your team mates are more annoying, but it's fun.

I think people that get annoyed are those that take it too seriously and often die by the weapon in question.

It's a game I wish they had friggin dual auto rocket launchers with unlimited ammo

What using the rocket launcher?

Yeah any muppet can scrape one kill but if you have no skill you're gonna die a lot.

What about the people that rack up huge kills and low deaths with it? Are they not skilled.

It's just sour grapes, if someone is saying they are getting killed by someone with no skill what does that say about them.

A good player will see you coming and take your friggin head off before you get a chance to fire a rocket.

Hell you can avoid the rockets, especially from distance.

When someone moans I do it even more, I then ask them if the rockets taste good before finishing them with the pistol so the medic can't revive them.

It's in the game you babies.

Rather than moan about it just set you're own girly room up with them turned off, and any other girly options you want to enable or disable.

Finally some sense

It's a shame certain people seem to make up these unwritten rules of what weapons are acceptable.

If someone's glitchin then fair enough I'd call it cheap and have a moan.

Just to go back to the above point.

In a clan match you can set the weapons to what you want, so why don't the babies just disable them to make everything better for diddumms.

I know it's the wrong game but I'd rather be blown to smithereens by a rocket than die by getting bit on the ass twice in a row by a natzi poodle

Re: Is using the rocket launcher cheap?

Can I also just add that - to me anyway - skill doesn't just relate to the precision and speed of your aiming. Skill incorporates a whole raft of elements in an FPS game. You've got map knowledge, weapon selection, communication and teamwork, ability to adapt and improvise, and so on. Let's just say for arguments' sake that I can carry any two primary weapons I want, and I have the rocket launcher and sniper equipped. As I'm wandering around the map, going about my usual killing duties, I see three enemies clustered in a doorway. You'd have to be some kind of half-baked an idiot to use a sniper to try to get three "skilful" kills rather than use a rocket to dispatch all three at once.

Re: Is using the rocket launcher cheap?

I don't think its cheap to use the rocket launcher or the shotgun. Each weapon has its merits, and drawbacks. The shotgun and rocket launcher have slow rates of fire and slow reload rates. You could argue there is some skill in being to able aim fairly accurately.

The only thing cheap is spawn killing.
