Be* block torrent sites....

Couple of my private sites weren't working. Did some investigating, and it turns out Be* have blocked torrents sites.

Including PirateBay and Mininova.

Can anyone else on Be* confirm that these sites don't work? Already a thread is developing on the Be forums (link)

proxys bypass it thou

they best reverse this or i shall move on

That's absurd, there's legitimate content distributed on Bittorrent as well.

By the same token, they might as well block the entire internet, because it's often used for copyright infringement.

Be* are defintely blocking torrent sites. But it seems random as to who gets blocked and who doesn't.

Spoke to a couple of people last night on MSN all on different UK ISPs and they could access TPB and Mininova. But clearly some Be* members can't.

I've raised a complaint ticket.

yeah that was my thought - I have used it a fair amount in the past - although not this month much and its working fine for me on Be.

Thats quite shocking!

So some people are affected, some people not. How widespread is this issue..?

I'm with O2, had an issue a while ago with my Xbox clan website not working, just wouldn't appear as if it didn't exist! Worked fine via anonymouse though but obviously not an ideal situation. Phoned O2 and they worked some magic and sorted it out quite quickly.

An ISP censoring sites is something I never want to see and where it does occur in the world (e.g. China) I think the wider opinion is its very bad. If torrent sites are censored, next we'll have warez sites censored, then p**nography, then political debate... Internet from home will suddenly become like internet from work...

I don't use torrents but if this happens to O2 I will leave on principle!

BE are saying there's some blocks of IP address's that are affected and that as far as the poster said they do not filter content and they are looking into it

2 options:

1) someone down the food chain (BT probably who do block sites, arnt they lovely) is doing it

2) its a test for a global system thats gone live on some IPs by mistake ..
