ISF calibration of a pioneer 506XDE - ISF mode not defaulted

Hi - this is no doubt a stupid question but here goes

A mate who is ISF qualified calibrated my 506 a couple of months ago with an ISF day and an ISF night setting - they are the two bottom options when I press:-

Menu ->

Picture ->

AV Selection->

The options are (reading from the top):-

STANDARD
DYNAMIC
MOVIE
GAME
USER
ISF Day
ISF Night

When I choose say ISF Day - it's great - really good picture.

The problem I'm having is that, when I switch the screen off (even just in Standby) and then switch it back on again, the screen doesn't remember it was on ISF Day - it just reverts to STANDARD - so I've got to choose it each time I switch the screen on in order to get the benefit of it.

Is there any way to tell the Pioneer to remember that it should default to say ISF day every time it is switched on? i.e. is it possible to move the ISF Day settings to the top of the list instead of STANDARD?

Thanks in advance

It has been some time since I calibrated a 6th Gen screen but I suspect that something isn't right here. The set should default to the last used "mode". There is no way of moving the ISF day and night modes from their positions at the bottom of the list of available modes but equally there is (usually) no need to do so.

Do you happen to know which software your mate used to calibrate the set?

Hi,

6th gen. pioneers should stay at the selected picture profile after one turns it off and on again.

There should be no need to move the ISF presets up. And to my knowledge there is no way to do this.

Re: ISF calibration of a pioneer 506XDE - ISF mode not defaulted

Guys - thanks for the replies - very much appreciated.

I think I've found out what the cause is - I use a harmony 1000 to switch the pioneer & rest of my kit off - when I use it to switch off & switch on, the pioneer picture setting resets back to STANDARD.

However, when I use the pioneer 506 remote to switch just the screen off, & use it to switch it back on again, the screen "remembers" it was on ISF day. Wierd. I guess the Harmony must be using a slightly different (i.e. "stronger") off/on code to switch the screen off/on.

I'll have a look at the harmony settings.

Did you programme the Harmony with a macro that included a picture mode in the switch on sequence?

Re: ISF calibration of a pioneer 506XDE - ISF mode not defaulted

Also if he is your mate and is doing it for free you might want to ask him back to do it using a user or movie mode as the 6G C3 interface is not well designed. You cannot actually alter all the parameters you want in order to get the best image possible. From memory none of the noise reductions or pure cinema can be adjusted in C3 interface....and their defaults are all on and cinema off..(it's been a while since I've done one but I'm sure this was the case and the 6G was the first unit to have C3 in it)

Depending what you are watching this might be ok but for most content I'd say it's sub optimal

I have never used the C3 interface on a 6G because of this.

Nope - the only special thing I've done is to tel the Harmony to use Input 4 on the pioneer (I guess that's 'cos my denon 3806 avr hdmi output goes into the pioneer hdmi input 4).

Why - should I?

Not doing it for free but reduced rate to normal

I'll show him your post and ask him to do that (you may as well be speaking klingon for all that I understood (don't mind admitting that I've got an electrical & electronics engineering degree too))

Out of interest, if I wanted to get a new plasma like one of the new pioneer kuro's (basically 'cso they've probably got a better picture nowadays & 1080P etc. compared to my now 3 year old pio 506xde), what would I do with the existing one? I mean, I can't imagine a dealer will want to take it as a trade in & I can't see how you could sell it on ebay 'cos how on earth would I post it to the buyer? Do you guys in the trade often come across this "trade in" problem & if so, what do you end up advising?

Thanks for all your comments so far guys - much appreciated.

Re: ISF calibration of a pioneer 506XDE - ISF mode not defaulted

Don't expect a world of difference.

6 th gen. pioneers can display 1080p and even 24p. You won't gain anything there.

Calibrate the usermenu for best results, not C3
