Well first off be aware you will make a MAGNITUDE more money as a plumber. It is extremely unlikely you will make a living in UK just as an ISF calibrator
Next go to the imagingsciencefoundation website and look to see when and where their next courses are taking place in UK...Then start saving and reading up

yeah i had guessed about the money and was thinking about doing either one or the other job on the side. would just be nice doing something as a job that i can keep interested in and enjoy learning about. have been looking at the available courses and can just about afford it, but seems like a hell of a lot to spend if i will never be able to use it except for my own personal knowledge which i would like but at £1500 its a fair bit of money for knowledge.lol
how do most people start getting work with calibrating home cinema?

Re: how to become an isf engineer?

Well I did it 8yrs ago by offering it as a service to my customers in the hi-fi shop I was the Home Cinema Design and Installation manager in...and then to forum members. Many of the guys who offer it here seem to mainly try to get customers from the online forum community...but it's a very limited market and its already oversaturated with calibrators imho...I also do work on behalf of custom installers and retailers all over UK.

Personal recommendation ... a bit like the plumbing trade really.

Put it this way would you let someone who didn't have either training or experience anywhere near your TV so that he could gain the experience of having done a decent job so that you could then recommend his services?

Gordon has a extremely good record in this field and if he can't do a given job then he can recommend someone who can do a good job .... this at risk of his own hard won reputation so anyone that he recommends just Has to be Good.
