Panny 42V10 - calibrating sharpness settings?

I bought my V10 in the first week it was released in June and have just past the break-in period (over 260 hours to be precise)
I am seriously considering getting this panel calibrated but if I'm being honest, I'm not too sure of the benefits. besides proper greyscale, gamma, deeper blacks and colour correction, how else will my set benefit from calibration?
I have only watched bluray discs and occasional sky hd on the set (no SD material at all) and with blurays i was told to turn the sharpness completely off to zero.
i find the image slightly soft when sharpness is set to zero, is there any way the ISF calibrator can slightly tune up the sharpness without seeing any noticeable aretfacts?
I mean, if they tune up the sharpness in the service menu, would that be the same as me knocking up the sharpness to 50% or so using the TV's menu?

there are no sharpness adjustments in the service menu

Sharpness is not part of the tv standards. You should set it how you feel is most appropriate. I generally explain to my clients what the detrimental effects of too much sharppness are then I set it where I feel is the best compromise and they are left with knoweldge and ability to alter it if required.

i find it strange you want to have your v10 calibrated when it has the thx mode that is supposed to be as close to industry standard as a calibration out of the box

THX mode is just a standard preset...but one that is as close to A standard as possible. It is not a substitute for calibration...which is probably why THX have a large eductional programme for calibrators.....Also...NTSC, PAL and HDTV all have different standards...so which one is the THX standard on your tv set to emulate?

Re: Panny 42V10 - calibrating sharpness settings?

Im not sure if this is mind games but i feel overall picture has improved on my V10. I mean, the detail/clarity is showing alot more than when i first bought it.
i used a thx optimizer disc to calibrate the blacks and whites so far i have seen a slight improvement.
