I hade my 5090 calibrated over the weekend by Ivan from Greyscale and waht an excellent job he did! He was with me for nearly 4 hours and I was truly amazed at both his expertise the levels of patience he showed. even if you disregard the improvement to the picture, the amount of time and effort put in by a calibrator means, that in real terms, it is really good value for money (just think how much aplumber would charge you for the same amount of time!).
So I guess what evetbody wants to know who's considering taking the plunge, is "does it make a diffrence?" and the answer has to be a resounding Yes! Ivan configured two inputs for me, my Bluray (ISF "day" for HD only disks, ISF "Night" for SD DVD's) and my Foxsat box (ISF "day" for movie based material ie anything filmed, ISF "night" for video based stuff; news, sports etc). The end result: -
SD - Better colours and skin tones, but more importantly much better edge enhancement.
BBC Hd- As above, only more so.
BluRay - jaw droppingly good! Ivan calibrated the display so that it is now perfectly matched to my Denon and boy does it show! Edges are now so clearly defined, you could almost cut your fingers on them and none of the is at the expense of realism, all images, across the board, remain perfectly natural.
To be honest, whilst I was expecting improvements, I wasn't prepared for how noticable they would be. I was using setting from the forum, so I believed changes would be more marginal. However, it does make a significant difference.
So thanks one again to Ivan and yes, if you care about your image quality, it is well worth the money.
