Backup hard drive to iPod

I backed up the contents of my friends old Dell to a Maxtor hard drive and I want to get about fifty songs off that hard drive and onto her iPod using her new Vista machine, it has totally foxed me, aren't iPods confusing?

The iTunes software is on the new machine and it recognises the iPod, and trys to synch, but for some reason it doesn't load the three test songs I put in the place I thought they should go!!

I confess to having an old iRiver H300 and it's brilliant windows file structure is easy to drag stuff to and it just plays. What more could I want.

Could some kind soul explain how to get this music into said iPod? I'm going mad with it, it's SOOOO complicated. A nice line by line list of actions would be the greatest.

Thanks

Re: Backup hard drive to iPod

OK I admit it, I'm boosting my post in the hope someone can help. Christmas Party on the 12th and I've promised to find a fix.

Re: Backup hard drive to iPod

Open itunes and with the view as 'library' music, drag and drop the files into the itunes window. This 'should' copy them into your itunes library. When the name of the track appears in the itunes library. Drag that file across to the left hand side of the itunes window where the ipod's name appears. If you drag and drop it onto the name of the ipod, it should transfer it to the ipod for you
