Transfer digital media remote/via ipod

I want to play my music from my ipod through my surround sound. I have seen a review a while back where the guy just sits on the sofa with his ipod , selects his music and plays, without even docking the ipod, (remote),
I have a cinema surround with the Onkyo TXNr905 Av receiver.
I am 99% sure that this player I saw was an ipod but maybe not.
Can someone point me in the right direction, PLEASE.

Must appologise to all as this was not an ipod but a music server as in Pinnacles Folio music server
