ipod touch water damage...

On Monday I walked to work in the rain, and the tiniest few drops of rain got onto my ipod touch screen. I wiped it and thought nothing of it. Later that day I noticed a stain behind the screen in the corner - so some water must have got in. I immediately turned it off and left it to dry out for about a week. Turning it on again my touch screen no longer responds to touch.
I returned it to comet thinking it must be faulty to be knackered after such a tiny amount of rain it was exposed to, but they wouldnt exhange it - now I have to take it to the apple store engineers.
Has anyone else had any similar experience to this? I'm afraid that apple will turn round and say 'not servicable for water damage' like it says in the manual, but it really was not exposed to the rain at all, just 2 or 3 tiny drops on the screen!! The headphone jack sensor is still white by the way (the water damage sensor)
Thanks

update: so Apple looked at the water damage strip and there was a tiny bit of pink on it, rendering it out of warranty. nice one. an mp3 player that breaks with a tiny drop of rain on it, that costs £230. DONT BUY ONE!!!!!!

My mate's son dropped his in the washing up bowl when powered on. Worked for all of 5 seconds afterwards before dieing. After 5 weeks in a bag of rice the things works flawlessly. Might be worth a try. Google it.

Unfortunatly IMO Ipods are built to break/not last long, Apple make a hell of a lot of money that way!!
