Virgin Mobile EDGE coverage.

any iphone users here managed to pick up EDGE at all? I have an original 2G iphone and cant find any info at all regarding edge. I can get a 2g dot - but the web is painfully slow.

If you have managed to get access to the edge network - are you using different settings to the standard virgin wap settings?

Just called virgin about this who informed me that as EDGE is quicker than 3G (?!) you can get edge anywhere thats covered by the 3G network. I told the woman on the other end of the phone that she had it the wrong way around and she's escalated it upto technical support - but before they call me back it'd be interesting to know if anyone here has had simler issues.

Re: Virgin Mobile EDGE coverage.

Virgin use the T-mobile network that doesn't support EDGE. They have 2G, 3G and HSDPA which is as fast as full blown broadband (a bit quicker in some cases). EDGE is like 2.5G, quicker than 2 but not up to 3G.

The 2G network that T-Mobile/Virgin have offers GPRS speeds which are slightly below EDGE but pretty close. Your 2G dot is GPRS and probably about as quick as you will get on a Virgin sim.
