Re: Message tones

Are you saying that, unless the Iphone is jailbroken, you are unable to change the message alert tones?

Is this the same for the ringtones?

The more eager I am to get an iphone, the more I'm reading, and the more I'm finding things I dont like.

Re: Message tones

Yes, its one of those annoying things about the iPhone.
you should try jailbreaking though, its relatively simple, safe, and if anything goes badly wrong you can always restore the default firmware back onto it.

Re: Message tones

have a good read of this page
Dev-Team Blog - Close the stable door!

Download one of the links for Windows QuickPwn

Run the program, plug in the phone and QuickPwn will take you right through the process,it auto detects your device type, finds and downloads the necessary files - it even counts down for you when you have to do the button sequence to get it into DFU mode

This is one of my main gripes about the iPhone. I can't for the life of me see why Apple don't allow this - most other phones let you do this and have done for years - when moving to an iPhone its a little jarring to see such a simple feature missing. I love my iPhone but its almost embarrassing when recommending one to friends that it can't do custom message tones.

For what (I imagine) would be a relatively small change to the firmware they would make a lot of customers happy. In addition it could be another income stream for Apple - I'm sure plenty of people would pay for new ones in iTunes.

And it is also fully reversible if I want to change back or need to send for repair?

Can we keep this on topic please. Dave there are already simple step by step guides in the unlocking thread if you want to try Jailbreaking.
